MSU over again? What to expect Sat.

I'll preface by saying that it's going to take a frickin miracle for Brew to last here. That said, last year we were demoralized and hopeless after back to back losses to PSU and OSU with Decker going down in the process. Brew and the coaches put together a heck of a gameplan against MSU...

2011 NFL lockout, theories on effects?

Going off of the reusse buzz article. What happens in 2011 if the NFL is locked out and the Gophers for arguement's sake go 8-4 with a nice season lead by Gray? Any long term effects? If this happens, the U could have a crazy effective marketing campaign touting the fact that the Gophers are...

Weber '08 was a different beast, Weber '10 TBD

Just clicked on the gophersports captain's profile of Weber. I watched the highlights from the Bowling Green game in 08' and had to comment on them. Take a look if you like. The confidence and zip on his passes was amazing to me. There was a snap, quick read, and throw with no floundering or...

So many TE/LB Commits, what to do with the riches

With the new commit of Moore and the continued recruitment of Ramik Wilson and Benson Browne, anyone thinking position changes may be in line for some of these guys? The best bet I think is either an emphasis on mixing in the 3-4, or a few of these guys are going to be fullbacks/DE's/DT's, or...

The blueprint to success-Fringe Bowl Team blog

Thought provoking subject on FBT, I've always thought about this and sent him a Q on it, his blueprint has some really good info in it. Any takers with a formula here, kinda a fun subject. I'm gonna say you need to explain 3 areas of the blueprint Recruiting: Personnel, states, position...

Ouch on Rivals Preseason State rankings

Only 5 players included in the state rankings this year? Come on. I know that the 2012 class is much deeper and has some good talent, but man alive, tough year to build from within. Hopefully the coaches can identify some unheralded guys like Crawford-Tufts or Parsons.

Are we this far under the radar?

All the talk of preseason rankings and no highly rated players really makes me wonder if we're not primed to sneak up on a few teams. I just don't buy that we're not still at least a middle of the pack Big Ten team. IMO we're better than NW, MSU, Illinois, Indiana, and Michigan. We're probably...

Are USC's players automatically released if they want out?

I'm trying to get a handle on the team that shows up at the Bank this year. Does anyone know whether players are automatically allowed to transfer out of a bowl banned program if they want? Anyone have any idea what the general strategy USC might use the next 2 years? Redshirt alot this year...

Saw the new indoor turf, looks great!

Drove by Bierman, GN building today, they have the doors open to the practice facility, with all the new turf inside. Looks really good, all new field turf. Painted endzones and I think a big M in the middle. Hopefully the walls were also repaired, this should help tighten up any facility...

    Immediate USC implications?

Anyone up on their NCAA disciplinary bylaws? Is it true that juniors and seniors of a bowl banned team can immediately transfer? Anyone have a guess on how USC will play this year? I'm betting they will still be fairly solid this year, the real damage will be inflicted starting in 2011. I can't...

    Reusse defends against Sporting News

Reusse has a little article defending the Gophers against the recent 2-10 sporting news prediction. Fairly backhanded with his compliments, but at least it's somewhat logical. He does predict wins against Iowa and PSU, which would be monumental in my book. He's definitely changed his tone with...

Saw Edwards running track last night

Seemed like a very lighthearted and social kid, ran well, mostly in 100 200 relays. I would say he's a bit lighter right now than most were hoping for, he's taller than I expected too, probably around 215 I would guess. Nice looking stride, powerful frame for sure.

Olson at OT, Michel at OG? Gjere in fall?

Interesting tidbits from Brew in he spring interviews/pressers. Olson will be playing outside and competing with Wills, Michel will compete for a guard spot with Carufel and Wynn? BTW good to Wynn is immediately back in competition for a job, his back injury must be recovered. Wynn has good...

    Tatum-Huge upside

Reading up on some of the defensive guys, I'm incredibly intrigued by Willie Tatum. Wrestler at 6'3'' 205, which means he's lean, aka once he focuses on football he should gain size quickly. Also his wrestler background means he's physical and is probably a good tackler/blocker shedder, he's...

    Final commits?

Trying to move on from the Vikings game, on to national signing day. Any idea who fills up the final spots? We have what like 5 left? Campion supposedly, Sounds grim for Searcy making it in so let's go with 4 after Campion. Anyone care to take shots at who the final commits will be? I'll go with...

Buddy just got off plane in Orlando

Brewster and Lewis were on his flight. Coast to coast recruiting, It's pretty impressive the miles and hours these guys put in to collect talent.

    Good Read-Mack Brown

http://sports.espn.go.com/ncf/bowls09/columns/story?columnist=forde_pat&id=4796603 http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mack_Brown I dunno, but it seems Brewster is following a similar recipe that Brown did. Will he see similar results? The comparisons are close at UNC. UNC isn't a football first...

    Sigh, offseason thoughts

Well that was rough. I'm pretty down about everything Gopher Football right now, though much improved from New Years Eve. I told myself I'd wait awhile before I posted anything. I'm not mad, more depressed and sad at our lack of big time improvement between the end of the season and the bowl...

Insight Bowl Hopekids day with the team-Great to see

It's always nice to see charity work done by Gopher athletes, and I think it certainly brings a bit of perspective to the guys. Pretty funny stuff too, watching Hoese interviewed with sparkled tiger facepaint on. I have to think this type of experience rubs off very well on some of the younger...

    1st practice yesterday

I noticed on the gophersports blog that the younger guys(Jr, So, Fr) practiced first and apart from the seniors yesterday(seniors were lifting). That's interesting, maybe shows an emphasis on accelerating the growth of some key contributors next year. I wonder if we'll see more time in the bowl...
