Barry Alvarez must be shaking his head at the program now. Imagine that 1999 team with Ron Dayne, how punishing they'd be to these smaller/faster linebackers nowadays.
 









Surprised there is no thread about Carlos Ferguson. 6'4" WR out of Maryland who committed on the 1st. Good rating and a nice offer list including Georgia among other teams.
 



Surprising Program Already has 27 Commitments​


The high school recruiting process continues to speed up, as many programs fill up most of their class by the end of June. However, having 27 commitments on June 3rd is worth noting, especially when the program isn’t a national power.

The program is Minnesota, which after an especially successful weekend, now leads the nation with 27 commitments. The Golden Gophers have added 11 commitments since Sunday morning, including wide receiver Carlos Ferguson (Owings Mills, MD), offensive lineman Dylan Mota (Chicago, IL), wide receiver Jayden Thomas (Las Vegas, NV) and safety Maxwell Miles (Las Vegas, NV), who they flipped from Michigan.

As can be seen, while Minnesota is still focused on local recruiting, they have branched out to many different areas to achieve their current success. Aside from Maryland and Nevada, other commitments have come from New Jersey, Mississippi, Texas, Utah, Tennessee and California.

Head coach P.J. Fleck has openly stated that Minnesota’s strategy is to prioritize long-term high school player development over heavy portal reliance. This has provided a stable environment and fosters a culture of sustainability that is paying dividends.

While this recruiting class isn’t flush with high profile talent, it does include four four-stars and many others that fit the Minnesota mold. And while the Golden Gophers have found success nationally, the four-stars are all regional talents: tight end Brooks Bakko (Kindred, ND), defensive tackle Eli Diane (Plymouth, MN), linebacker Tate Wallace (Iowa City, IA) and tight end Drake Mikkelsen (Lennox, SD).

Coach Fleck’s tactics, both with recruiting and on the field, have worked in Minneapolis. Since his arrival prior to the 2017 season, the Golden Gophers have gone 66-44 and 7-0 in bowl games. And just as importantly, the culture he has firmly developed is also working with recruits and their families.

Stability isn’t easy to develop in college football, but Coach Fleck has accomplished this in Minneapolis.
