Koi Perich Transfer Portal

Let’s see, I guess the consensus is that the kids are prick, he’s not very good, he’s not very fast, he can’t tackle well, he freelances instead of playing his position, and he’s wasting a chance to be a Minnesota legend. I know I’m missing 10 or 15 other bad takes. Watching everything here I guess I’m in agreement with him that it’s best to move on. Find some place that appreciates him more. Me, I’ll remember him 12 feet up in the air making the pic against USC to seal the game. I’ll also remember him as a freshman all American, first team all big 10 as a freshman and all Big Ten as a sophomore; albeit second and third team.

I'm not saying any of this is wrong, but Koi was an all-American as a true freshman. He was pretty damn visible here.
I don't disagree with your point about him being visible here, but if he goes to a helmet school he'll be playing for a team that will likely be in a featured game every week and the talking heads will be babbling about him incessently. Image boost.

You should take a cue, find a message board that appreciates you more, and leave as well

Oh, no, not you again bad takes all over the place and apoplectic if anyone gives PJ a hard time. I’ve switched gears though you’re not Heather or her teenage son. I think you’re his mom or dad. Now get back out there and finish shoveling PJs sidewalk and shut the hell up dummy.

Agree (but without the sarcasm and wish Perich had stayed) and I'm not going to dis Perich. None of us are Koi Perich and the decision is all his. We don't know the exact calculus that went into his decision and we have to leave it there. It's his future and in the current college football environment he has a wider range of opportunities to promote himself (both monetarily and otherwise) than players did a short time ago.

My non-Perich angle on this is that college football is dying faster than I thought it would. The pace of change has been dramatic and I wonder what the landscape will look like in five years.

Obviously there are higher-profile programs than Minnesota. But if he goes to a program that is expected to compete for the CFP, he's likely to be limited to exclusively playing safety, which will greatly reduce his profile relative to his teammates compared to playing for the Gophers.

Take Ohio State as an example. Julian Sayin, Jeremiah Smith, and Bo Jackson will all be much higher profile than Koi. That's before we consider who will lead that team in tackles and sacks in 2026 (won't be a safety). Maybe I'm wrong, maybe he will go to a place like Ohio State, Texas, or Miami and be Charles Woodson 2.0. Great for him if so.

True at a level and he will certainly be watched more closely at a helmet school and both the good and bad will be seen an analyzed. He won't be under the radar.

He's going to play safety at the next level and if he's a top-drawer safety, he won't be returning kicks. Cooper Dejean is the comparison for me and he did return punts for the Eagles as a rookie, but once he became a regular that role ended.

This is a good post. A lot of takes from GHole cope lords come off like getting dumped and saying “she wasn’t even that hot anyway”

I really have no beef with Koi. He gave us two years when everyone assumed he would go to OSU when they offered. If he changes his mind, awesome. If not I have nothing but best wishes for him.

A little self-awareness on your part wouldn’t hurt. I fully understand that a good chunk of folks on here disagree with me on a lot of things and or have me blocked. I just can’t help a few takes the main one being with all the good things we have going on I can’t believe for example that eight or nine game days this year we looked like we were completely unprepared to play — and then I go a bit nuts. Not sure if I add any value or not here, but I am who I am and I like the intel that comes from the site, mostly.

You, on the other hand, feel like you add all kinds of value here when really you absolutely don’t. You’re a one trick pony who doesn’t know shit about football. When I read your takes I generally flashback to the Animal House scene where the dean tells the freshman that fat drunk, and stupid is no way to go through life, son; in your case since I’m not sure about the fat and drunk part. I emphasize the stupid.

It is an interesting thought that I know most of us hate seeing him leave, but also that if it weren’t for this new NIL era he probably never comes here in the first place. With the ability to pay him at least some money and no real repercussions to coming here for a few years and transferring out to a helmet, it gave us the chance to see if he could help put us over the top.

Yeah I’m pissed he’s leaving, but maybe being a Minnesotan I kind of expected it. It was a bad sign when he told us that he didn’t care about the Gophers and was only here just to not get fined on his way to the NFL. Hopefully we find a way to keep him without mortgaging the future, but if not I’m ok not wishing him well either. Go Gophers and Row the Boat!

If he had left after his Freshman year, I probably would’ve been more upset. It’s be great to have him, but he obviously doesn’t have the same passion for the Gophers as the other big names that are running it back this year. This is going to happen to all programs every year in this portal age.

All things considered, we didn’t lose a lot this portal season, and got a nice surprise from a true impact player in Smith returning.

It's gonna be really awkward around here if he comes back.
This has absolutely become an RFP process and sometimes the company (AKA Koi) needs a good enough threat to get them to up their offer. Sometimes negotiations get awkward, but you never know! The world of social media sure makes things interesting.

My take has always been that I'd love to have him back but it all depends on the price. Same outlook as any pro sports player. Don't want a situation like Correa underperforming and eating up a big chunk of the payroll for the Twins...Did the Wild overpay for Kaprizov? We will see in the next couple years.

Absolutely agree. My thought is the price better only go up if we find a big enough suitor outside of what we already have as a supplement. That’s the biggest difference vs other pro sports. Maybe the U/Koi are actually playing a dangerous game of chess and getting people to donate! Highly doubt it, but in this day and age who knows.
