All Things P.J. Fleck Rumor Mill Thread - Listed as Candidate for Other Jobs

He inherited a 9-4 team and it was his 2nd job. Dillingham inherited 3-9, it was his first job, and he went to the college football playoff.
In PJ’s first job, he took a 4-8 MAC team to an undefeated 13-0 season that would have been in the CFP if it existed then.

Dillingham best team had 3 losses and finished 12th
Fleck best team had 2 losses and finished 10th

His worst team went 3-9
Fleck worst team went 5-7

“It was his first job”

Yup. Dillingham had been a head coach for 3 years and has a record worse than flecks at Minnesota.

Dillingham is a much better hire and more likely to get the job because people assume he will replicate his best year rather than his average. And people assume fleck will replicate his average rather than his best years.

People who have issues with flecks results will have issues with dillingham results over the long term too. In 3 years at Arizona state he is 2-9 against teams that finished top 5 in the league. And 3 losses against teams that finished 5-7 or worse.

This is all irrelevant though.

Its not Fleck hate. I just don't see it as a fit. Its not "Fleck isn't a good enough coach". Among other things I don't see them putting oars on Michigan helmets. Do you? I also don't see Fleck changing the way he coaches. I think Fleck is a great coach. Im not worried about losing him to Michigan at all.

The Gophers have oars on their helmets? Or anywhere on their uniforms?

A unique pattern of an oar, boat and compass are emblazoned on the jersey numbers and collar to represent the program’s Row The Boat culture. An oar also makes up the center stripe on the helmet and a compass with the player’s number inside of it is displayed on the back above the school’s traditional Ski-U-Mah cheer.

Do my fellow GopherHoler's really think PJ is going to Michigan? Nope, not happening. Tranquilo
No but I don't think the ultimate pick will be much better if at all. I personally think Fleck would crush it at a Blueblood but if the RTB is really that big of a deal than great for us

Yeah from 7 years ago. Point it out on this year’s uniforms

You don’t think he could win with a better talent pool? I get the argument that maybe it would be hard to recruit the true game changers with his RTB stuff, but I would love to see what he could do with real talent (preferably IN Minnesota!).
No, you're right. I don't think he wins enough right now for Michigan to be interested. I do think he would win a lot more with more talent but I don't think many programs of Michigan's caliber are going to try to sell that to their fan base (to our benefit).

It’s called hyperbole and OK then 54 to nothing was certainly within easy pickings if Iowa was inclined. Great effort then I suppose to make sure that 65 was out of reach.
Iowa could have not got 54 if they were so inclined either. Just stop.

I do not think Fleck is going anywhere, but he would do a good job a Michigan. Imagine the player development on a team of 5 star players. He has mellowed his comical Row and other slogans into a fully rounded character and player development program. He could easily morph it into a Michigan Raw Raw themed system.

I want PJ to stay at the U!

Actually I took a look at the boxscore and am reminded that Iowa called off the dogs pretty much the entire second half had 31 at the half. I’m back on the 65-3 score had they been inclined—dummy.

No they didn't call off the dogs. Ferentz wouldn't do that. The douche called three timeouts during the covid year. Minnesota had a horrendous first quarter and a half due to special teams and offense. Minnesota actually had many tackles for a loss. Iowa is not capable of scoring 65 or 54 this year.
