Thoughts on 2026?

Our first 3 games are embarrassing. We could win just 3 games and get that xtra feel good late December game with just 3 BIG wins. Put somebody on the schedule that will give us a challenge. Those games do not sell tickets or concessions.
Mississippi State is embarrassing?

We might not even be favored.

Playing a SEC school is embarrassing?? Doh-kay. If you're gonna rage bait, at least make it reasonable. Dumbass

To his defense miss state has only won one conference game under this hc. I don’t expect them to be much better next year.

Personally, I would be much more interested in playing a Tenn or Mizzou than a Miss State or Arkansas if we are going to play a sec school.

Miss state offers very little upside record wise (win and you beat a dog shit sec team and does very little for strength-of-schedule metrics), or lose (and you lost to a dog shit sec team which make strength-of-schedule metrics even worse for bowl placement).

Lol
Penn State hiring ISUs Campbell. Should be a well coached team next season.

Embarrassing or not I would rather play a team from a major conference than one of the Dakota schools.

The third year for a coach that has won 1 conference game?? They will be a bottom of the conference sec team again next year. If this is as close to a toss up as you suggest, what are you thinking for win total next year? Only 4 or 5 wins?
7-8 wins. Love your confidence. Let Drake lose next year and keep Taylor healthy.

Why is this an easy schedule? Mississippi has a gem of a qb that was a freshman this year and be full time starter next. Go watch some highlights. Looks like Vince Young running the ball. Wondering if we can contain him or at least outscore him. Also got a 5 star recruit today.

Michigan and Iowa at home.

@Washington and Penn St. Might be the first time Minnesota has ever had a higher recruiting class than Nittany Lions. Perhaps WI doesn’t figure it out.

I think 8-4 would be considered a good year. I don’t think any games are completely un winnable like Ohio State or Oregon but it’s not cupcake schedule either.
I don't disagree with any of this but the mind set has to be 10 wins. It can be done. We have the most critical part, QB. I think he is a game changer. I think he is better than probably most of the other ones we'll see next year if we're talking NFL skills. Now we need to elevate the rest. Recruiting, check. #29 this year, let's be top 25 next year. Living in the 15-25 range is the talent level needed, not 50.

I still don’t see Taylor back next year and if he is would it be with an NIL reduction? Has to be!?
What’s the bigger ROI?

Bringing Taylor back and spending the same on OL as last year or putting that NIL money into the OL and relying on other, likely less talented, RBs?

This isn’t to say that Taylor hasn’t been a great player for the Gophers.

The overarching question should be which position on provides the greater value?

6-6 Seems about right.

Non Conf is prob 3-0
Indiana, Iowa, Michigan, @ Washington, @ Penn State are L’s.
NW, @ Purdue, UCLA, @ Wisconsin are 50/50

B1G is tough.

Iowa at home and Penn St with two high school recruits and a new coach are losses? I think they get one of them.

Why wouldn't Taylor be back? He obviously could declare for the draft and he may fear he'll be too much of a workhorse if he stays. And he may want to play for a team with a functioning OL. But he has to prove he can stay healthy.

Can your highest NIL guy only play half the time because of soft tissue injuries two years in a row? Would seem ripe for a change either his choice or ours. I’d spend the money elsewhere; and if he does come back I hope he plays all 13 games and proves me wrong. I enjoy watching him play when he’s full speed.

He is a joy to watch when healthy.

They went 1-7 in their conference [beating Arkansas]. Kentucky had a tighter game against Ole Miss.

This fan base is in a sad spot when we are shitting our pants about playing the second worse sec team. Gophers will dog walk these guys at home, stop fear mongering.

How do we know Minnesota's record would not be similar to Miss St if they played the same schedule?

Funny but true! The food, set ups and shear number of people tailgating is insane. Every flat piece of earth had a table on it - no lot passes or anything like that needed. 100k at the game - 200k tailgating with TV set ups. Easy. Wild.
Yep, I was a student at the U of South Carolina (1984-87 and 1990-94), who became an SEC member during my last year there. When I attended my first game in 1984 (vs, Kansas St IIRC) i was surprised by the elaborate tailgate set ups. The other thing was how the frat boys and sorority girls dressed, pressed white shirts/ties on the guys and ladies in dresses. I have shared this before but when getting my Masters we organized an IM flag football team. We won the championship and were allowed to play the final game at Williams Brice Stadium. Great memory. I regularly remind my wife about it during the football season. Go Gophers!

Non-conf games are scheduled years in advance. Mississippi State has been down the past few years but they have been a solid SEC team most years.

I'm all for one non-conf game each year against a non-helmet school power 4 opponent. Nothing you can do about that program being up or down in a particular year.
