They’re 16-18 since he arrived but were awful awful after he arrived. The next two years will be interesting.

I wouldn't be surprised if he steps away after the year or next year. He continues to have some health issues and I think the excitement of playing for him has worn off a bit. They've been awful the last two weeks against decent but not great opponents.

I was thinking the same due to his health.
 

He has no reason to keep coaching, but seems to really enjoy it and I gained my respect in how he went about it. I agree with the health issues and his kids all moved on, it's odd he would stay there. It's probably a deflection or distraction from his health issues.

Yeah you really gotta remember where they came from. They went 1-11 and rushed the field after beating Cal.

I don't see him sticking it out there for much longer now that his kids are gone. 2024 with Hunter was probably the high water mark as they are really struggling this year and will need to win out just to get to bowl eligibility.

Won't shock me to see both Sanders and Belichick look for off ramps after this year.

Short term benefit for sure but if he continues to struggle and/or leaves soon, then they're right back to square one with little or nothing built towards long term success.

Maybe it's like the old NFL players will tell you ... his wife told him to stop hanging around the house and find something to do.

It would be best to leave not and get the best replacement they can get to catch people before they completely drop off the wagon.

Crazy to look back after the last two showings and see that they beat Iowa State, lost by 3 to BYU and 7 to Georgia Tech.
 

It’s a good thing Deion brought the hype because the results have been wobbly at best. Bottom tier team in their conference 2 of his 3 years and downward momentum at present.

If he wasn’t doing the marketing work his seat would be getting toasty

Even if there is no foundation built they still got the benefit compared to before though.

They’ll always have a heisman trophy in program history now

I wonder if they could get anyone who could keep them on.

There were A LOT of internet Colorado fans who seems to be Deion fans and love being kinda "my fandom makes me proximate to Deion / success" and don't know the game or Colorado, and as far as the internet goes have vanished ...

And Shadeur's #2 retired as it should be for a marginally talented QB who led his team to 1 winning season and one mediocre bowl game :)

They may not end up regretting the Deion Sanders years but it is unlikely that those years will end up propelling them back to National Championship contender level.

The three years before he got there they won 9.


Assume gophers finish 7-5 this year. By percentage of wins added.
That would be like someone coming to Minnesota next year and going 31 wins in 3 years by going
8-4
15-1
8-4

Success or failure?

I would readily admit and argue it’s easier to add wins 6-8 per season than wins 9+so not apples to apples
But he’s hardly been a failure
 

If they keep losing at this pace he may actually be forced to leave his house and hit the road to recruit like every other damn coach in America.

Yep....they are right there in the muck with most of the power 4 schools hoping to catch lightning in a bottle to make it possible to compete with the top schools.

I wouldn’t say he’s a smashing long term success either
I think you take is pretty good

My problem with sanders takes his first two years was because I didn’t think he was gods gift to coaching. And now my problem with takes is I don’t think he is awful awful

The hype around the hire was ridiculous and when the beat a "highly ranked" TCU team right off the bat it pushed it to another level. The on the field results haven't matched the hype. Sanders definitely has not been a complete disaster there but like most hires it is going to end up being one that helped the program but didn't propel it to the top levels the way some definitely seemed to believe it would.
 


All hype as a head coach, no substance. Great player, crappy coach. Fine when has great players, not good when having to develop his own. A culture of no commitment to the players leads to a very bad overall culture where players are more concerned about themselves individually rather than the team.
 

think part of what makes Deion's time hard to compare is that the B12 has dissolved (so you're missing OK and TX, the best 2 teams by far in terms of track record)
Wins this year are Wyoming, Delaware, and a now 5-4 ISU
Last year its NDSU, Colorado State (who just fired its coach for being so bad), 8-5 Baylor, 4-8 UCF, 4-8 AZ, 5-7 Cinci, 8-5 TTU, 5-7 Utah, and 3-9 Ok St with the Heisman winner and an NFL QB plus whole bunch of WRs
The year prior its 5-7 TCU, 5-7 Nebby, 5-7 CSU, and 3-9 ASU

So he's beaten 3 teams with winning records in 3 years (4 if you count NDSU and we'll see where ISU finishes).

He brought them a lot of publicity and the boost in applications to the school will be nice (esp if it makes alumni that donate), but I don't think he's really made much headway in making lifelong fans as right now its a bunch of celebrity following who is going to go back to not caring after he's gone

He’s has very significant health issues the whole time he’s been there. Impossible to say how his current squad would be if that weren’t the case but it’s been a big factor.

Probably has good health insurance too. (not that he can't afford his own).
