Predict the Score Thread: Minnesota at Ohio State

Ohio State 28 Gophers 10

End of Brewster early Kill era I was in the group of fans that said 0 percent chance Gophers beat Ohio State.

I think Its unlikely Gophers win Saturday but Its not impossible. Maybe 5 or 10 percent chance we win.

tOSU 31
Beloved Gophs 16

Edit: Having looked at their season I would like to revise to 27-20 Ohio St. Also my gut tells me Darius is back Saturday. I feel like Drake is starting to get into enough of a groove to put points on the board and you know Fleck is going to play Tressel ball to protect the defense. There is going to be a couple shots and a trick play to get us into scoring position. In the end it won’t be enough but NBC will get a good game.
I feel this way too. I feel like we may score a little more than 16...if Taylor is healthy. Having him as a passing option would really open things up for Drake.

OSU 35
Our Gophers 24

But i am still not ruling out an upset. Things need to go our way a bit, but with the way Drake has been throwing it, we have a chance. Let's take the field and see what happens!

Not trying to come across as a jerk, but I do not see Minnesota scoring 24 points. We have given up 22 points combined in four games this season. Zero Red zone touchdowns, both scores were on 30+ yard passing TD's where OSU blew coverage Texas got one and OU got one. I have no doubt the Gophers will get on the board but 24 seems a stretch. Frankly this Defense is better than last years #1 Defense at all 3 levels.

3 50+ yd TD passes! lol

I think OSU plays Tressel ball against us!

If DT is back, Fleck won’t take deep shots nearly as much. He’ll lean into DT so he can cover the spread and not lose by as much as we’re supposed to.
We didn't take many deep shots without DT last week.

I know some of you have a hard actually believing, it but the coaches and players are not going out there worried about covering the spread, they are trying to win the game.

Year nine of Fleckball and I expect the Gophers to be competitive unlike what we saw against a medicare Cal squad. Fleck has a lot to prove.

At best I can hope for the Gophers is to be in position going into the 4th quarter to get a W rather than being 30 points behind. But what I have seen thus far, I am skeptical.

Gophers 13- OSU 38

I checked this "new member" and the Dink-O-Meter 3000 reads:

Gophers 27
Buckeyes 21

3 picks and a fumble recovery on a kickoff lead to a Gopher win in spite of losing the yardage battle by 200 yards. LeMeke is the offensive hero with 2 TD. Where do we put the goalposts in Columbus?

Is there a river nearby...?

Without Darius, there's no doubt they don't reach 24. But I think with him, we do have a much better chance at 24. (Gotta carry a bit of optimism in there as well).Without him, we don't score more than 20. Your defense is very good at every level, I'll give you that. I think Drake will surprise a lot of Buckeye faithful though. A large chunk of throws he made, he gave the receiver a really good chance to catch it, placement-wise. He has a nice deep ball too. Will we surprise everyone with an upset? Highly unlikely. But i think the game will be closer than what a lot of people are expecting.
I read a report (can't remember the source) that Taylor may be ready to play so we'll see.
Good luck on Saturday regardless!

Apparently, the over/under for the first quarter of the Ohio State game is 9.5 points. A betting guru recommends taking the under! He points out that Ohio State has scored only three points in the first quarter so far this year; he says the Gophers have scored zero in the first quarter so far this year. He must only be counting FCS games, because the Gopher put up 35 on Northwestern State in the first Quarter. It will be interesting to see how this game starts off. Both teams playing close to the vest?

Edit. Just checked the stats myself. In FCS games this year (a small sample: Buffalo, Cal, Rutgers) the Gophers total scoring is this:
1st Q 0
2ndQ 24
3rdQ 24
4thQ. 7
Personally, I think a few early scores would be a huge positive factor against Ohio State. But that style of play might not be in PJ's DNA.

Ohio State is giving up an average of 5.5 points per game so far this season. I’d love to see the Gophers score 24 points, but think that would require a TD (or two) from the defense and/or special teams. Even with a healthy DT, 24 seems like quite a stretch if coming solely from our offense. But hope springs eternal. Go Gophers!

Good point. We have started slow offensively all season, part of that is due to Day being conservative and trying to establish our run game early and protect our RS Freshman QB. Not sure when he will let him start airing it out we have played very conservative, but our Defense has allowed us to. I do not care personally a "W" is a "W" however we get it.

Agree. Why take early chances, and possibly give up a turnover, when you've got the best defense in the nation? Start cautiously, feel out the other team, adjust your game plan accordingly based on observed tendencies and weaknesses, and then demolish your opponent is the second half. Ohio State's normal game plan against the Gophers of the world.

It is PJ's normal game plan, too, in games he should win ... and in toss up games, even though we don't have the massive roster/pedigree advantage that Ohio State has. Unfortunately, the start slowly and observe strategy is questionable for a mid-level team like the Gophers against a team like Ohio State--if you want any chance of being competitive. Teams like the Gophers need a few truly lucky breaks, and have to take chances, hoping to score early and upset the dynamic when playing Ohio State ... unless the lesser team's strategy is just to keep the score down and slink out of town with no new major injuries, preserving your assets for upcoming toss-up games.
