I forgot to mention, I also watched Adventureland on the flight home and sorry to say, it didn’t clear the bar of TWWB for me. I liked it, but no one matched the charisma of Rockwell, the character that kept hitting Eisenberg’s character in the nuts was annoying as fck, and in relation to that character, I thought it was a major plot hole that he was the one with the inside knowledge that Stewart was sleeping with Reynolds and told Eisenberg-but only him; in reality, that dipshit would have told the whole park as soon as he had the info.
But one thing we definitely agree upon-GREAT soundtrack. Starting the movie off with Bastards of Young is a wonderful way to open.
At least you liked it, so it's a relief it wasn't a waste of time.
Rockwell is great in The Way, Way Back but ultimately he's just a supporting character. I thought Steve Carrell in TWWB as the stereotype step-dad villain was also every bit as annoying as the nut puncher.
Above all I just buy into the Eisenberg/Stewart chemistry and thought Adventureland was more humorous.
Speaking of the nut puncher, that was how Eisenberg and Kieran Culkin's paths crossed. It's the role that Culkin auditioned for, and during the read through with Eisenberg, actually knocked him in the family jewels.
Apparently he made a lasting impression, although they would not work together until A Real Pain. Perhaps it was a Casting Director error.
