A rivalry with the Washington Huskies?

I was at Husky Stadium in 2007 the night they unfurled a banner in honor of declaring themselves 1960 national champions. Everyone in the stadium was laughing.

IIRC that was a game against USC in which USC had 160 yards of penalties and 3 lost turnovers, yet that UW team wouldn't take the game despite it being set on a platter for them.
That is the story and since they already won the national championship the Gopher coaches and players vacationed more than they practiced, which was the accepted way for a Rose Bowl exhibition game.

The Huskies were so certain they won the 1960 national championship they waited 47 years to ‘claim’ it in 2007.

The 1940 and 1941 Minnesota-Washington games were among the most consequential intersectional games of the year. Reading Danny Spewak’s book about the 1941game (the season opener with Bierman’s motto:”Washington First!”) a detailed description of the scope of the game and the effort required for the travel. Three thousand Minnesota fans made the trip. The Alumni Association organized a Frday night gala dinner for 500 people.

Sure. When their fans come to town, we can throw those stupid Washington Red Delicious apples at them and mock them, as those apples are neither red, nor delicious.
I'd forgotten about "Red Delicious" apples. They are some of the worst apples I've ever eaten. Hate to disagree, but I remember them as being red. So they are selling those apples in Minnesota?

As for a rivalry with the "taildraggers" have at it. I'll be pulling for your fencing team and any and every other team against the "Seattle Brown Streaks".

Lot of tech jobs and money in Seattle area, Boeing, Amazon, Blue Origin, Costco, Microsoft, Expedia. Other big tech companies (Google, Apple, ByteDance, etc.) have a big presence there as well.

Does Oregon have much going for it? Seems like a slightly more populated Idaho.

We're talking "rivalry" Oregon and the taildraggers. If you want to compare the two states, they have a lot in common geographically. Both states are very similar and beautiful, of course Idaho is a beautiful state as well. Sure if you're talking population, Washington is about 8 million Oregon is about 4 million and Idaho is a little less than 2 million.

As for businesses, Oregon has a decent high tech industry (of course I saw that Intel just announced a 2,400 person layoff in Oregon, about 10%). Then Oregon has Nike and Addidis as well as a very wonderful and fully appreciated wine industry.

Politically, both are Blue states while Idaho is very much a red state. An old joke about Idaho goes like this, "It's the only state in the union with two capitals, Salt Lake City and Spokane, WA"

I forgot that Intel has done a lot of chipmaking in Oregon for some time. Wonder how that all came about?

(Complete aside, Minnesota actually has a fair amount of solid state manufacturing as well, just not a very "sexy" segment of the overall market ... but we have it nonetheless!)

I love both states (as well as Idaho). Visit all of them for a few weeks in September almost every year. Many fine breweries as well as scenic beauty. My only complaint was that I didn't realize, (not really a complaint) that the first time I went to a gas station I tried to start pumping my gas and was severely reprimanded....lol.

Well you can pump your own gas in Oregon now (I think it's been 2-4 years, I drive an EV). Originally, Oregon required gas station attendance to pump gas as a "safety" measure. Later Oregonians sort of enjoyed NOT pumping gas because it meant getting out of their cars in rainy weather to pump gas. Hence, it took a long time before Oregonians finally changed that law. I think NJ is still a state that doesn't allow pumping your own gas. Granted everyone hasn't completely converted to the national standard in this area, for example, my local Costco has four lanes for pump your own gas and four for attendant pumping your gas.

So how did this Oregon vs taildragger rivalry start? It seems to have started as a result of Cal contribution funds to send the husky rowing team to the 1936 olympics (huskies won the 8 man crew gold in front of Hitler). Congratulation Huskies (don't expect that out of me again). Later in 1948 washington broke ranks with the four NW schools in the Pacific Coast Conference which had traditionally voted as a block against the four California schools, breaking a tie between Oregon and Cal and the huskies voted to send Cal to the Rose Bowl over Oregon and it's been a rivalry ever since.
