Let the music play - new Concert Reviews/Experiences

Indeed same as owning anything, but I have seen them play and it's a blast.
I caught the Minus 5 show at the Turf Club a few years ago when McCaughey was recovering from his stroke. I I knew Buck would be part of it but it was cool that Mills joined in as a show of support as well.
I might be going to see Rich Mattson and the North Stars at the Eagles tonight, btw.

Another great time at the Sphere. Dead and Company again. Can't beat the venue.

Mike Watt is that the Turf Club tonight. He's 67 years old and playing something like 45 shows and 51 days. Get out and support the man in the van with a bass in his hand!

Also the opener is Charlie Parr with Greg Norton and Billy Dankert

Hüsker weekend in St Paul.

My cousin and 5 of his buddies made the trek from out of town for the Mould Palace show on Saturday and it was an easy sell to hit the Turf/Watt show as well. They were arriving at various times via car and 3 different flights, and I was just a tag along.

The plan was dinner at the Downtowner with 7:15 reservations, which the ring leader thought would be plenty of time to catch Parr/Norton/Dankert.

One problem, he misread the Palace/1st Ave website. He mistakenly thought it was Doors at 8pm, not Show at 8pm.

We got in right at 9pm and realized it when we saw Watt on as stage (sitting) with his bass instead of Norton.

Bummed about missing the opener but enjoyed the headliner.

My cousin said the same buddy of his messed up the week prior, but in reverse getting to the venue like an hour and a half early.

Dinner was also fun, the pork chop was superb. We got our entrees just about the time Charlie, Greg & Billy were starting their set.

For Saturday they agreed to let the local guy, guide the itinerary..

Ha ha excellent. Funny you should mention because I got there about 8:10 the line to get in was really long. Both people immediately behind me we're there to see Charlie Parr and didn't realize he was the opener. They took it with good humor but they heard half the show that came to see from out on the sidewalk

At least it sounds pretty decent still from the sidewalk.

See above for my Friday adventure. The group of 6 out of towners from Illinois had connections to the opening act for the Saturday Bob Mould Band show at the Palace. That group was the Poster Children.

With my local group of 3, bringing our total to 9, that exceeded the largest group I have ever attended for a Mould show by 5. Usually it's 2 or even fewer.

My friend and I took advantage of buying his new Here We Go Crazy at the Electric Fetus and got passes to the Sound Check at 5:30pm. Pretty cool treat. The fiddled with amp, mic sound levels, did a couple of intros and then had 3 full songs.

Afterward Bob chatted with the of a 100 or so from the stage, indicating that they were getting a week break. Jason Narducy & Jon Wurster were just here last month for the REM Fables run through at 1st Ave with Michael Shannon.

Someone shouted "Thanks for REM, Jason!" Bob was quick to point out, "Jon was there too!" So both got their flowers.

He also touched on that he's working on his Commencement Speech for Maclester. Up to 1700 words. Should be available to Livestream.

As a bonus we got wrist bands which allowed re-entry access for the actual show. My buddy and then met up with the rest of the crew for a Cosetta's pre-game meal. Excellent, and a hit with the visitors.

Skipping the line meant we were able to grab prime real estate for those not wanting to be on the stage rail.

Poster Kids were excellent, hardly ever stopping to catch their breath.

Mould focused heavily on the last couple of albums and other stuff from the Narducy/Wurster era. He tagged on seven Hüsker tunes in the last third of the set.

Normally, I would be a little bummed about nothing from the Workbook through Sugar era, but the new stuff is really strong. They trio had tons of energy on their get-away show for a few days of R&R.

Great night.

Pearl Jam N1 to open the 2025 mini-tour throughout the Southwest in Hollywood, FL, just west of Ft Lauderdale. I had the fortune to see the 2024 kickoff in Vancouver, which I don't think is possible to get further away in terms of major North America markets.

The venue was the Hard Rock Amphitheater. Capacity 8,000 which makes it the smallest indoor official tour stop in 30 years. At least that's what someone told me in the merch line. Best sounding room I have ever been in, other than the Ryman which is about a quarter of the size.

As for the show, it got off to a fantastic start in the dark with Oceans. Same stage set up as last year's Dark Matter Tour. Next was a rousing performance of Present Tense, which started as McCready only accompanying Vedder. Midway the rest of the band joined in and off we went. Even Flow also made an early setlist appearance.

It was very similar to the Vancouver show with a heavy dose of Dark Matter, some big normally arena anthems with no fewer than 3 really deep cuts: Down, Leatherman & Footsteps.

Ed started the encore with a solo Petty tribute, Won't Back Down. We also got one of my favorite covers from Sweet Relief, Crazy Mary. There was even another Petty cover (sort of) with So You Want to Be a Rock 'N' Roll Star, which sounded more like the Heartbreakers version than the Byrds. Probably done as an acknowledgement of Petty's home state as well as the venue.

The night ended with the house lights on for Alive and Baba O"Riley, only for them to go off again. The finale was Setting Sun.

Oh what a night.
