Doogie says Payne got “north of $500K, more than entire Gophers” payroll

Not saying Royce didn't have issues. Clearly he did/does. Just agreeing that another program that took basketball a bit more seriously probably wouldn't have left him suspended for multiple months while campus police "investigated" a missing laptop from a dorm room.
And see I'm glad we didn't. I also don't like the amount of money flowing out there and would prefer we not sell our soul...but that is impossible now.

Not all of these situations are the same.

-Every school would have fired Clem in 1999. Even Kentucky and Kansas. Let it go.

-Tubby being blocked from hiring Jimmy Williams was stupid, but I doubt it had any real impact on his tenure.

-Royce White and Trevor both probably should have been let back on the team once their cases were dragging on and on for no reason. Maturi was a wimp. Point on that one.

-Reggie Lynch would have been kicked off almost every team. That one wasn't a gray area. He was a creep.

So yes, Tubby's best team got torpedoed and it's unfortunate. The rest, not so much.
Reggie may well be a creep but I'm pretty sure he was exonerated two different times.

The idea that if we had money we would win is not a guarantee. The Yankees and Dodgers spend way more money than other teams in their leagues. In the last 20 years the Yankees have played in one World Series and won one pennant. The Dodgers have won World Series and won 3 pennants in the last 20 years.

Money raises the floor though....

Doogie (and Mackey) both "report" that Dawson Garcia turned down 2 to 3 times more $$ elsewhere to stay. Makes sense. If Payne got $500K, Garcia could get $600K+.

Doogie also reiterated there is zero chance of Christie returning.

It's an unsustainable system - back to the Stone Age. The NCAA should sue for its previous authority and take it all the way to the Supreme Court, where they might get a better hearing considering the confusion and harm now from not having some overall authority with teeth.

I can't believe anyone would believe what Darren says. This is all crazy. People just throwing around numbers like we really know what's going on. If this is true, why would Garcia turn down a bigger payday. Guys...Get a grip.

We don't even know what the system is. Stop speculating on the numbers.

Supposedly because he wanted to stay home. Also, I think he's got an endorsement or two outside of DTA. FWIW Mackey brought it up and he pretty much never talks Gophers directly so someone obviously told him that.

It's also common sense. If the Gophers entire NIL is ~$400K, he might be getting half of it, $200K. Based on the various amounts we've seen others getting, it's not very hard to believe Garcia could get $600K+ if he left.

I've heard Dawson is getting 400K from DTA, and turned down 800K+ from multiple other schools...think this is the rare occasion when Doogie is actually right.

It's far more than that.

Our NIL budget is a concern. If we had $2 million for basketball, we could have given Payne and Hawkins what we gave Garcia (reportedly $400K) and they’d both probably be Gophers. I still think Hawkins decided to enter the portal after he found out Garcia was getting much more Gopher NIL than he was.

The consequences of a Supreme Court decision aren't going to change the legality of it. You think Kavanaugh is gonna change his mind and say the players shouldn't be able to market themselves because some people don't like the new system?

What confusion? There's nothing to be confused about - everyone knows the rules (or has access to know them).

What harm? Oh, your favorite basketball team is getting it's players poached???

Your post just sounds like wishful thinking from someone who wants the past to come back.

I know it's like beating a dead horse here :horse:, but until someone can show me something that's not hearsay, then I can start to believe these numbers.
Give me anything...A statement from one of the NIL collectives, a contract, some type of tax statement (this isn't invisible money).
For me all this talk about how much any NIL has or has given a player means nothing.

...Just Sayin'

Yes, I have contributed to Dinkytown Athletes. Of course, I never received any of the free merch they promised me. :blah:

If true, he's making as much as a guy on an NBA two way contract. Don't blame him for taking it obviously, as I would too. But his 10 and 6 avg won't make him worth it at all.
This is why Christie is in the portal. If he isn't happy with the draft evaluation he will just go where the money is good.

There was also a defensive aspect to it. Let's say he had agreed with Minnesota on a potential amount pending his NBA decision and then Minnesota couldn't make good on it- he has to have another option otherwise he has zero leverage.

It appears they are set up as an LLC, so there wouldn't be any obligation to disclose any public records/tax returns etc.

Colleges paying students is so far beyond stupid that I can't even describe it. A lawsuit would win if the jury had any brains at all.

But even in here...guys talk out of both sides of their mouth about it. Because they go along with whatever they're told.
Good Lord, give it a rest.

I get it.... I'll be honest. Moving to sec country has changed my opinion on it.. just because game days here are like mich vs Ohio State... And you need to go to that game once in your life time.. same with TN vs Georgia. I've gone to that game the last 3 years... I know basketball and football are on total opposite ends of the spectrum... I've even taken on 2 vol baseball games.. #1 team in the nation.. and it's reallllllllly good ball.. but I wish the playing field was level...

The Yankees last had a sub-.500 record in 1992.
The Dodgers have had one sub-.500 record since 2006.

Money absolutely matters, a great deal, in MLB.
