Cam Christie is entering the Transfer Portal

He could be back if not the NBA.

This is an NBA draft tactic. He is not really exploring the portal.

Don't think so. The portal is closing. So he did this so he had maximum choices if and when he decides to come back to the NCAA, which he will. He'd be lucky to be a second round pick this year. So he'll come back and play for someone else and then go pro. Ben won't have a job after next year. Whatever he's doing, he's running everyone out of town.

Pretty sure he'll stay in the NBA draft. He's getting enough buzz for top of 2nd round.

I think he'll probably just stay in the draft anyway. But if he plays college basketball next year, it will likely be elsewhere. Why turn down a chance to play for a better coach, a better team and more $$?

Whatever Ben is doing is not having enough money to compete with the blue-blood schools. If/When Christie comes back to NCAA he will go to a program with some serious cash for him. That is just the way that college basketball is now. Hell, we would all act the same way if we were 20-year olds in college who were given the opportunity to get serious cash. I can't fault him but it hurts to see that this is the way college basketball is now. This is just the landscape now

Yup we are going to be looking in the portal for 7-8 players each year and looking to find hidden gems.

Ben has nothing to do with the amount of money that is available to the basketball program

What tactic? The NBA doesn't care if he is in the portal. Do you really think they are going to be convinced to draft him because he might not come back here?

If it was a tactic he would have gone into the portal the second he entered the draft. This is him hedging because someone told him if he doesn't go pro he can make good money elsewhere. He is gone.

So I have to assume the NBA scouts are telling him he needs to go to a blue blood program for one season before re-entering the draft.

Given that the notice above says that he has a "do not contact" message in his portal profile, I'd guess that the blue blood program might have been selected already.

Yeah, that is the issue. CBJ doesn't control how much money goes to basketball so he can only do so much to try and convince players to either stay or transfer here. That is my issue. Only so much can be his fault if players want to go places they will be payed better

No idea what he intends to do, but it only makes sense to put his name in to keep his options open. He can still go to the NBA. He can still come back to Minnesota. Now he also has the option to transfer elsewhere if he gets a better opportunity and/or dislikes the changes to the roster at the U. I hate it, but if you were advising the kid, the smart play is to enter the portal prior to the deadline.

Okay- this is a dirt bag move this late in the game. We now have to go spend the NIL money earmarked for him on the best wing we can get. See ya Cam.

I guess that's the only silver lining.

He may not control the money going to NIL but how much is he helping? We know that Fleck has made appearances to donors and has spoken through media about critical NIL shortages for his program.

Nothing is overstating it. We can debate how much it matters, but I have to believe if Ben hadn't lost so many games his first to years, there would at least be a little more NIL money to work with.

And? First of all I wouldn't take that at face value anyways. Second that isn't an NBA tactic that is him protecting himself in case things don't work out. He has no intention of playing in college anymore which he said. (which would negate the whole tactic idea anyways) Plus he seems to have some concerns over the new grad transfer rules (no idea what that means) which is not something Cam has to worry about.

If Cam is keeping his options open, he isn't coming back. I think he plans to go pro no matter what. But he isn't coming back here. He didn't need to keep any options open, he had a starting spot here waiting and if rumors are to be believed not exactly chump change. If he got hurt Ben isn't going to cut him loose or anything and the NIL will still be there because we are so desperate. Cam is in the power position because of who we are...Illinois is in a much better position so Hawkins needs to protect himself.

The injury protection argument makes no sense. If he blows his knee out, it's not like some other school is going to give him big NIL $$ then.

Most of what he said made no sense outside of "I plan to stay in the draft".
