Disillusionment

Says the guy who said Kaliakmanis sucking was the fans' faults🙄🤣
Yikes that was what you were able to gather from that?

Sorry dude, I think I have been being snarky with someone who is a little challenged. Not cool on my part.

NCAA basketball is just a much worse version of the NBA. They aren't as good at basketball, they are less loyal, there is way more turnover and teams are skipping the NIT to focus on the portal, and it's operating like a terribly designed pro league.

If we are watching professionals, it makes more sense to follow the ones who are better at basketball.
This has been my take. Why am I gonna watch an inferior product? The sport has been completely ruined. I don't see much of a future for it either in its current format.

What a crock.....There are few to any strong supporters of Johnson on this board.....there are just some that choose not to bitch and moan about him constantly since we have no control over his status as head coach of the team.
Good grief, you are a fraud.

It exists as much as the club that hates him and wants the gophers to lose, but I’ll stick by original thought. People naturally view the other side as nuts while they are sane. It makes people feel better.
Saying Ben did his job by recruiting for 2 years...and now had a good team put together...is factual. Sane.

Blasting Ben, claiming he's the problem...is non-factual. Insane.

I've said Ben is a standard B1G coach. About average. That's not being in his 'fan club'. Sane. But others on here say he's the worst coach in the B1G and the worst in our history. Insane.

Saying Ben is an average B1G coach is not insane, it's just totally factually incorrect.

If you don't believe having an inexperienced, uninspiring coach with a historically awful record and no discernible system is part of the Gophers problem, well...that's up to you.

15-44 in three seasons is standard conference coaching?

🤣🤣🤣🤣👍👍👍👍👍

As of yesterday there were 80 B1G players in the TP. The lowest number of transfers belonged to Purdue (2). Three schools have seven transfers. The gophers have six transfers.

Nobody on the board is arguing that CBJ is a top notch coach. However, to blame Johnson for a systemic problem is myopic.

Yes. But it's not the numbers. It's the quality...of in vs out.

Yep, he's here til he's not. In the meantime, enjoy the ride when the enjoyable moments happen. Very few people anticipated us having the season we had this year in terms of out competitiveness. I'm excited to see the outright misery on this board that will accompany a tourney berth next year if that happens. Another year of Johnson! Still Alive in 25!
Its the offseason and there has been scarce good news. What would you like people to be positive about?

That is the problem. You have a point...during the season. What is so enjoyable about our starting center and starting PG leaving and struggling to replace them?

When the season starts hope springs eternal. Until then its tough sledding with no good news to report.

I have big doubts about this. It all started with a California lawsuit...and we know what those people think about college FB & men's BB.
We do do we? My lord your takes are atrociously bad. Go outside, read a book, go on vacation. You definitely need a break because I am starting to think we might need to do a wellness check on you.

I don't think you know how averages work...

Christ I don't even hate Ben but you make me sound like I want him drawn and quartered because facts show you have no idea what the heck you are talking about.

I dont blame him for the NCAA free agency problem...I blame him for his record, the often bad play of his team, his inability to adjust half the time...etc. Hawkins leaving isn't on Ben...the fact that we were barely an NIT team with Hawkins is on Ben.

The posts are becoming increasingly erratic on a number of threads. Not healthy.

Everything from California politicians & courts is absolute crap.

I don't know the league well enough to argue the point. Anecdotally, WI lost its two best players.

Yes, I think it would be unlikely to lose 7 players and not have some important ones among those.

let's say that most of us agree that Ben is part of the problem. after that, it becomes a question of percentages.

I tend to believe that the changes in college basketball - free transfers and unlimited NIL - are a larger part of the problem - especially for a program like MN that is struggling to remain relevant and has no recent winning tradition.

so If Coyle is going to fire Ben, Coyle has to find a coach who is able to bring in significantly more NIL. Do you think Coyle can pull that off? I don't.

Firing Ben, and having Coyle hire a new coach, in my book, is re-arranging the deck chairs on the Titanic.

in the long run, if you want to transform Gopher hoops, then start with the AD and let the new AD make the coaching decision.

I've watched a number of documentaries on the Titanic, and in every single one, it sinks. Deck chairs and all.

For once I'd like to see it win. Just like Gopher basketball. ;)

the lookouts failed to see the iceberg in time to make a course correction. in my analogy, Coyle is the lookout - he failed to see the ice-filled waters in front of the program.

you can question the design of the ship, which lacked maneuverability, but that is a bigger-picture question.

If SON has lost hope we might close to the bottom. SON is stalwart.

Silly per usual. Coyle is fine. He did the DEI hire as instructed and it didn't work out. I'm confident he'll get it right after the next season.

I don't know. It wasn't that long ago that we saw Fleck begging for NIL money both in events with donors and in interviews. I don't recall Ben Johnson doing that although I'll concede that I might have missed the occasion. The football program, with far more players to be concerned about than the basketball program, seems to be in a little better NIL shape right now based on some of the recruits we're getting. Personally, I think "ain't too proud to beg" isn't such a bad quality for a coach these days and maybe that should be brought up in the interview.
