Opponent Preview: P.J. Fleck Has Minnesota Rolling

None of the posts, so far, have mentioned the "JUG". For an old timer (me) the "Jug" is the most (greatest) trophy in College football, bar none (and I'm aware of the pig and axe.)

    Times have changed

Thoughts from an Old Timer. They can't do this any more (an agreed understanding) but in 1952 Minnesota hired Head Coach Wes Fesler from Ohio State as our Head Coach. The Bernie Bierman time ended after that Has Fleck started golden times for the Gophers again? Happy thoughts.

    Liberty Bell

Most of you know but anyway, The Gophers were the 1st game they had when they joined the B10and the Gov of Penn. put up the Bell as a traveling trophy. Haven't heard anything about it like we would if it was the Pig or Ax. I bet most of us without looking it up don't know who has it now...

This is going to happen m ore often ---

Just talked to my son-in-law in Florida a big Fla State Fan (Gopher also) and informed me that Florida State fired their coach today. Guess who they going to go after? Yep and you guessed it. We might as well get used to it.

Bowl game rerun on BTN tomorrow

MN vs Geotech. 1 PM Wed 7 Aug.

Remember BTN unoffial rule (or Gentlemen's agreement)

A BTN school does not hire a football coach from another BTN school.

    Footbal ticket income

may not look so bad -- As ticket income falls, the BTN football tv distribution is rising (which to me is part football income) Add the Two together and the number may look pretty good. Ticket income is dropping because of the wide screen higher definition TV in my opinion.

    Football Trophy's

Which one of the four we play for is the one the most desirable to see in our trophy room. To me (you can guess my age) it still is The Jug. The least is the Liberty Bell although they all are very desirable. The Pig and Ax are tied.

The college's have to decide -

Do they want attendance up (full Stadiums ) or do they want TV money? It sure appears that is the case. (Nebr possible an exception and that may end)

Who will be next years starting running back?

There are so many possibilities that I can imagine: Smith and Brooks fight it out for starter and Ibrahim redshirts. or Ibrahim starts: I can only guess what Brooks and/or Smith decide. Running back by committee (but I doubt it) A new recruit wins out and there is no problem Soooo -...

    Sid

I have no proof but it is quite obvious that Sid has (at least the help) of ghost writers for his columns. Why? - Very little (compared to the past) on Gopher football vs the Vikings. Maybe you have to be an "old timer" to see this but its obvious. Sad

    An old tmers memories!!

Correct me if I'm wrong but this is my memory - Back in the 30's we had a series of games with Notre Dame. (5 games if i'm correct) I traveling trophy existed. We won the series and the trophy is now in our trophy room. We were in the National Spotlight then and (I just watched a rerun...

    TCF Bank Stadium

Just looked at a picture of the Stadium filled for the opening against Air Force. So the question. WHEN WILL IT LOOK LIKE THAT AGAIN? (I HOPE IT WILL!) my guess is when we are playing the Badgers at the end of the season for the BTN West title. And then I'm not sure. Or will it be when...

    Maybe I should wait

until after the Bowl game but what effect on 2019 season ticket sales do you think the Wisc blow out will have? If every thing looks rosy, strong recruiting class etc., I can see a jump in sales. (maybe even a "big" jump.

    Question

How many times have you watched a replay of the Wisc game? (2 like me?) BTN has scheduled a 1 hour replay version.
