I'm glad Glen has been able to be classy and stay up on the high road. Makes him much better in hindsight.

Glen respects him. It's been obvious for a while. Looking forward to Glen getting a standing ovation at TCF someday.

Glen lives in Minnesota and always says Minnesota is his team too. Therefore, Glen is one of us. Thanks Coach Mason for all the wins you brought us during your tenure.

Go Gophers!

One thing about Mason is he set the bar for us. Had he not we would probably just be apathetic about Wacker like seasons for Gopher football for a looooooong time. With no Mason we wouldn't have had expectations for Brewster & Kill.

Mason's time was up & unfortunately we wasted a hire experimenting with Brewster... but everything happens for a reason & in 2014 I have never been more satisfied to be a Gopher fan.

I don't think that Mason is faking his love for the Gophers. He seems to actually care.......and openly root for the Gophers success.

Mason was also a big advocate for an on-campus stadium. He helped pave the way for that big time.

Mason had his faults as a coach but let's not forget he was working under tweedledee and tweedledum.

Correct. I think folks also forget how much effort Mason gave to get us the stadium. We aren't where we are today without it.

Glad to see a little love for the Mase. I agree wholeheartedly - he may have had his flaws but he brought a lot of good things too. He helped pave the way for the stadium and he brought a lot of big wins, too. Loved his offense -- it was a joy to watch!!! If he ever comes to midfield to be honored -- you are damn right the fans should give him a standing ovation because he deserves it!!

My happiest day as a Gopher fan was when Bruininks and Maturi fired Mason's ass. I will never forget it. Until that happened I was on the verge of giving up my season tickets. I couldn't stand having a coach who wasn't able to convince me that he really believed the Gophers could win a Big 10 Championship and go to the Rose Bowl. By the time he was fired Mason had been in retirement mode for at least three years. He was planning to collect his million dollar pay check for as long as he could without putting in the work until Bruininks found out that losing bowl games bothered him more than it did Mason. The legislature didn't approve the new Gophers Stadium because of a coach with a 32-48 Big Ten record. End of story.

Someone is butt hurt, I was all for firing Mason based the performance on the field not lockeroom performance. People react differently in all sorts of circumstances, doesn't mean Mason didn't take the loss hard. People enjoy gut reaction firings because it's what we'd do, but it doesn't necessarily mean Bruiniks read Mason correctly.

You and that clown featured in the Star Tribune, who was a new season ticket holder only because he disliked Mason, and was so excited by the hiring of Brewster got exactly what you deserved, four plus years of crap. The hiring of one Tim Brewster was what inspired him to finally support the U of M, and Star Tribune decided to write a story about him for some reason. I'll have to look that one up for a good laugh.

I bet that was the best day of your miserable life.

There is not doubt that Jerry Kill inherited an absolute hurricane of sewage, and people like you and the laughably incompetent Maturi made that happen. You cannot explain 2007-2010 away not matter how hard you try. And don't even try. Mason would won between 5 and 8 games in 2007, not 1, and history backs up that projection.

So you think that the president of a Big 10 university would fire his football coach because of his gut reaction to witnessing Mason's cavalier attitude after one bowl game. You must also be saying the firing had nothing to do with multiple years of substandard effort, below average recruiting, a losing Big 10 record, a contentious relationship with Gopher students and fans, and the fact that Mason wasn't liked by the majority Minnesota high school football coaches?

And you're an idiot. Ask State Senator Carrie Rudd. She was on the floor when Mason spoke to the legislatures. She was initially opposed to the stadium. She, and several others walked away extremely impressed. She changed a nay to a yea. Mason and his family are great people and I'm glad he stayed in Minnesota. Period. End of story....

There is great mutual respect between Mason and Kill. Glen is a big Gopher fan, and like was said above, he gave us reasons to
expect better results in football. He didn't get the Gophers to the Rose Bowl, but came within an eyelash in 1999 and very close in
2003. I never minded seeing the Gophers beat Penn State, Ohio State, Arkansas, Oregon, Iowa, Michigan, and Alabama. Yes, he
did this without a home field and a lousy budget. History will write a positive chapter in Gopher Football history for the Mason years. :)

Ditto on that - Glenn raised expectations here and though blowing some big games managed to develop 8 All-Americans in 10 years (after none for 28 years), got to 7 bowls (admittedly easier then than before), and beat Oregon, Alabama and Arkansas in bowl games while also winning at Columbus, Ann Arbor and Happy Valley. Now he's doing a fine job on BTN.

Put down the crack pipe. That was hands down the worst team Mason had ever put together & no way would he have won 5 games, much less EIGHT F'ING GAMES with Desi Steib, Duran Coooley & Co starting on that defense. I love Mason, but he'd been mailing it in for 3 years & the cubbard was bare because of it. People laughed at Kyle Theret, Fatty Thomas, Ryan Collado, et al. but those guys were upgrades as true Freshmen to what Mason had left. It was the least talented roster I've ever seen on a Gopher team. Maybe the worst defensive roster I've ever seen in the B1G regardless of team. There's nothing wrong with giving Mason his due, but 5-8 wins with that roster is preposterous.

We will never know. I know we would not have Kill and staff had things not gone the way they did.
