Leidner ranks 118th in completion %

I've never once claimed that wins are less important than stats. Wins trump stats, but wins are not an official individual stat in football. Stop trying to tell me they are. You have taken what I said and started a totally unrelated argument. Let me know when Mitch's name has a W next to it in the box score tomorrow. I'll hopefully find it in the team schedule.

I'll consider this over unless you choose to read the words in front of you and quit implying things that are untrue. Good night.
Wins are the only "individual stat" that matters. You will never get it. You should follow golf, not 11-on-11 football. Go buy an xbox or something. Stop posting here. Go follow another team. Leave us alone.

O my good god. When you stop thinking of wins as an individual achievement, then you'll start to make some sense. It is possible to win in spite of someone, and that's a wonderful thing to see a team overcome individual mistakes. That's what makes team sports interesting, but a win doesn't mean everything is gumdrops and unicorns.

I can't wait till our next discussion. I always enjoy talking to you. See you tomorrow, pumpkin :) Go Gophers! ?

The only people who matter today, or have any impact on whether we win or lose, are those that get "individual stats." You know, the receivers, running backs, and the QB. I sure hope they pile up enough stats for us to win. And, the OL might as well stay home. We don't need 'em since they won't be bringing any "individual stats" to the outcome.

Part of this is the nature of the offense we run.

It would be interesting to see a breakdown of his passing percentage by down and field location.

I get the sense that many of his passes are bombs down field and deep outs/flags. If we threw 10 more short passes per game (like most other teams) his percentage would go up substantially.

You've never played football. You will never understand. Look up the box score from the Nebraska-Wisconsin game last week. QB stats for Wisc. were not impressive. Some of the 'huskers will have nightmares the rest of their lives.

You know the people that make the argument about "you never played football you don't understand" in my experience were the third stringers on some bum#### small town team who tried too hard in practice to the extent that all other players rolled their eyes. They're also generally too dense to make a valid argument.

He might rank 118th but his team is ranked 25th….

Who in GopherHole believes the Gopher wide receiver corps would be ranked in the Top 100 in the country? As for me, I don't think they get open often enough or catch the ball as much as they should. If Leidner had Ohio State's wide receivers does anyone doubt his passing stats would look a lot better?

Either that or he was the trailer trash quarterback on the state championship team that couldn't pass and had an all state running back. Given his sensitivity towards the situation, I put my money on that. I wasted so much time on the guy who comes here to be open minded and discuss things with people who disagree with him.

I am a Gopher football fan and come to this forum to express my thoughts and read many interesting things posted here, including some views that oppose mine.*
*Unless we talk about QB, then I'm a broken record because I played football dammit.

Good post. Add to that MN's #1 and #2 wide receivers didn't play. Not easy as a QB when you're missing your #1 and #2 wide receivers and going against what many are saying is the hottest team in the country. Don't think KJ Maye and Isaac Fruechte are going to be starring on too many D1 teams as wide receivers. Wish and want, but Leidner is what we have, Kill picked him over Nelson for his leadership and mental toughness.

Kill and Limegrover have said many times that they'll need a solid showing in the passing game to win games the better teams. Leidner said this week and in the past that he needs to "play better" to win. The receiving corps have been hurt by injuries and illness and aren't in top form.

All that said, people still come here to say that the passing game is not needed and basically say "forget about the passing game, they can't do it and we don't need it"

B.S. on both. Leidner and company have done it a number of times this year. Heck, they had a dream 3rd Quarter against Illinois, and almost overcame a bad 2-3 Quarters by the team to win that game. A whole game or maybe 3 Quarters of efficient play by the guys who catch and throw the ball will lead to the greatest Gopher season since before JFK was inaugurated!

Oh, completion % can be real deceptive. Much like the guys who say they'll never need to complete a pass. ;)

I don't get the people who say that individual performance doesn't matter in a team sport. We may be #25, that means there are 24 teams above us. A team is a collection of individuals. There is clearly something that is making the 24 teams above us better than us. I don't think it is unreasonable to suggest that our inability to complete passes is one of those things. That doesn't all fall on Leidner (but there have been too many occasions where his accuracy has been bad), but we need to get better at doing that. Until we are #1 and national champs, then there is at least somebody somewhere on the field who needs to do something better to get us there.

This is a good point. It would be interesting to see all the national stats broken down by L-M-R and the various yardage grids and see how ML7 stacks up against the rest of the QBs in the zones he throws to most.

Ìn this era of football, more often than not you need a Championship caliber QB to win Championships. My opinion - we trade QBs with OSU and we win last week.

So far our QB has not played Championship football.

He's got two games to change that.

We won on the road against a good opponent. What was his completion percentage. ...WHO CARES WE WON.

He's the leader and he has big ****ing balls. Wins @ Michigan and @ Nebraska.

You may want to reconsider sharing since your supply appears a little short. And too bad you missed so many of the games this year. ML7 has made many, many championship plays.

This. He is a game manager and comes up with some big, big plays. ML 118th in comp %, his team will be 22nd/23rd this Tuesday. I'll take it.

Marooned, that's kinda mean. Let them work out their own issues.

This and turnovers are really the only stat I care about when it comes to gopher quarterbacks. I don't care how many yards you put up. I don't care how many touchdowns you throw, but if you aren't completing 60% of your passes, you aren't cutting it in a Power 5 conference. If you're below 60%, then you better have a set of wheels on you.

Any chance you want to recant?

Once again. You completely missed the point. Happy Thanksgiving.

And no. There's nothing to recant. He ran for 111 yards and two touchdowns on 5 yards per carry. That is a set of wheels in my book. Do that a little more consistently and don't turn the ball over and that's just fine with me.

HTG to you, too! So, since he didn't complete 60% he's not cutting it? Dang. He's cutting it for a lot of us in a big way.

Read the sentence you chose not to bold. You are something else, dude.

It's not enough to make plays here and there - you need to have consistent championship play all year.

He didn't do it against Illinois or Ohio State.

That said - yesterday was his best game as a Gopher. He played at a Championship level yesterday.

Needs to do that one more time next Saturday.

Sorry for taking your sentence as a sentence. I'll try to go back and read everything you've ever written to comprehend your arguments instead of looking at your statements and judging whether they are valid or if I agree with them.

Are you saying he needs to make every play, every game? I guess I'm arguing he's making a lot of plays and playing championship caliber. Perhaps you can name the B1G QBs who are making those "championship" plays you speak of. For my money, ML7 is growing into a guy that can lead us to titles...even if he doesn't complete every pass, make every perfect read.

The sentence right after the one you bolded you stubborn buffoon. I feel sorry for any family in your life. You should be thankful this week that they haven't cut your tongue out.

Whoa. That's kinda harsh. Name calling? Bringing my family into this? OK, that's enough for me. You think what ever you want, write whatever you want. Discussing this with you seems a futile endeavor.

Thank god this is over. If I only I knew that is all it would take 2 days ago.

What matters the most to me is we have eight team wins with a chance to vie for the B1G West Title. I am not so much worried about % completions, etc... Kill has laid a strong foundation for the future of the program which IMHO thought will take 7-8 years to undo years of mediocrity.

Let's enjoy this ride. Happy Holidays!

We've come a long ways from a 3-9 season.
