from marketing, was that they will NOT be scanning U Cards. I know everyone and their grandma has a different source, but mine has never been wrong.
 



Is this a good or a bad thing? Does this mean opposing fans will be sneaking in?
 

My source says that people should stop worrying about it and should just enjoy the game.

And if you're not a student, get out of the student section.

I hope they are making people show a UCard at least. Do you know anything about that?

i don't think so. just because they might not be running them through an electronic scanner does not mean they won't be matching up the face of a person presenting a student ticket with the picture on the U-Card they are presenting. i think the intent behind scanning would be more to make 100% sure that it is a "current" U-Card and not one that belongs to someone one who graduated from the U 4 years ago.

remember that they created an entire seperate entrance just for students so i am guessing the attendents at the student gate will be expected to do their job and make sure stuff is on the up & up with people using subsidized student tickets & U-Cards. unfortunately, i think those who keep saying they won't have time, they won't have time to check faces to U-Card ID's are going to be in for a rude awakening if they try to sell their student ticket on the open-market.

I personally, don't think it's a bad thing at all. Unless they have some really good technology and a boatload of card readers, I don't think that was the way to go with 10,000 kids every game. Obviously, other schools have perfected that, we would be trying it out at our 1st game.

Also, by checking ID's and names, the kids had to have gone to the U. Chances are, if they went to leaps and bounds to still get student tickets, they are die hards. Keep in mind, I am biased, as I had student tickets for more years than I'd like to admit due to friends and grad school.

I did not mean to put this on the bball board - but from what I found out about bball tickets, they will be doing the same thing as football.

Can't we just have this policy. " If you sit in the student section, you can wear Gold or you can wear Maroon. Otherwise you cannot sit there. Hello badger fan, here is your gold shirt for tonight. If you take it off we will escort you out of the stadium. What you don't like this policy? Lets see your card. Well this doesn't look like you Mr Badger fan."

Honestly, that is what I would do.

This is my dream policy. Honestly, as long as it's Gopher fans, I don't care who's down there, but if the school subsidized the ticket, I think they should have the right to take liberties with those who use them like requiring certain colors to be worn and reserving the right to quadruple check IDs for those who don't appear to be students at the U.
 




I really just want to make sure we keep opposing fans out. I would actually endorse a rule saying you can only wear certain colors in the student section.
 

Well, be prepared to get turned away guys; I'll trust my source in the department that would receive the equipment to scan.

There's a reason why they're in marketing/ticket sales, and that reason is to market/sell tickets. Answers from people in these departments always seem to vary, in my experiences with them.
 

It'd be nice to know for sure if they didn't scan though.. and if that's the case I'll have a good seat for sale in Section 145, Row 2!
 

FYI, the source in the marketing department may not be the best source. The marketing department may be next to the ticket office in Mariucci, but they have nothing to do with game day admissions or tickets. They are marketing. I would trust a Ticket Office as a source over a marketing department person.

This is a completely wrong statement. They are the two departments that work together the closest on gameday. AND the ticket office is the least trustworthy of the two because they're further down on the process line of how things get done.

Don't you think GopherSports has more important issues than making sure everyone in security and taking tickets knows they decided not to scan cards this year? They don't need to do that until a couple hours before the game.
 

I'm willing to bet that they look at id's but don't scan them. This is what they did last week when they were letting students in to watch the game on the big screen. There was no equipment for scanning, and I suspect they won't be installing it during the week.
