GAME #15: Gophers (11-3, 0-1) v. Purdue (10-4, 0-1) [BTN, 1:30PM)

Free throw shooting hurt us the other night and saves us today.

Too much drama for being up 17 with 8 to play.

I don't care how we won. We won and I was entertained. I'm a happy fan

That ribbon board is really ugly. Especially in an arena like the barn

The defense at the end of this game was pathetic; no intensity and a lack of awareness. Equally incompetent was the poor play against the press. Austin Hollins should be the last option and a lack of awareness on the ball handlers part was mid boggling. A win is a win though.

Win is a win. Horrible reffing and a disappointing collapse, but it doesn't matter too much now.

Good to pick up the win. Didn't need to be that difficult, not on a day with great 3 point and FT shooting. Scorching shooting by nearly every Big Ten team that walks into Williams has long seemed a tradition, and it didn't stop today. Piss-poor reffing didn't help, and they overwhelmingly favored Purdue in the second half. Still, little excuse to get manhandled on the defensive boards like that.

At least we finally won a close game. All of our previous wins were by double digits I believe.

Dude get the **** out of here this is a game thread. And Foster would be nothing but a wasted scholarship for 4 years. You have never seen Morris play so don't pretend like you know what you are talking about.

Pollyanna, mom and dad spent all that money to put you thru law school, and this is how you speak on a fan board? I beg to differ I'm pretending to know what I'm talking about. I played on the men's team in college, while you were practicing with the girl's team.

Congrats to Coach P on his first B1G win. They'll learn from this game that you gotta keep the intensity up even with a big lead. On to the next one...

Wow. Seriously, you are the worst poster here.

You keep saying this, but you bring absolutely zero high level insight to this board, just sour grapes.

Wow! Congrats, want a cookie? What level are you coaching at currently?

What is it about big white guys in a Gophers uniform and phantom/no calls? Iverson was the same way. I can't believe there wasn't a call when he got killed late in the game.

Good to see us hitting some shots, but would have been nice to close it out. Oh well, a win is a win. And we needed it.

Another internet All-Star gets the iggy.

EE should have every right to shoot those officials.

if they are going to call him for a foul every time he goes straight up when someone drives the lane, he should just start dropping the hammer on the driver, get his money's worth and make guards think twice about whether or not it's going to be worth the two free throws. If they're going to call it anyway, why not?

Pretty good game for the most part today and most importantly able to get the win. The reffing was absolutely horrible and was a big reason Purdue got back into the game with all the reaching and grabbing. EE did a good job of not absolutely losing it on those refs after he had been called for a couple fouls when he had good position and stood his ground and got called for fouls and then he was mugged by Hammons and another Purdue player and we got a shot clock violation out of it. I was worried about Hammons going into the game but he was pretty much a non-factor. Team shooting was a lot better than the Michigan game which I expected it to be and the free throw shooting was a lot better today too. Overall a solid win that got a little too close at the end but a win is a win.

Better get used to it. I suspect almost every game is going to be like this. If the Gophs are hitting 3's, they can get the lead on most teams, but outside shooting comes and goes, which leads to droughts on offense and lets the other team get back in the game.

As far as the officiating: if the refs are calling a tight game, it's up to the players and coaches to adjust. The 1st time they call a touch foul, somebody has got to be telling everyone to be careful. Instead, they keep playing the same style and keep complaining.

People that have to exclaim on a public forum, "I played on the mens team." Never played on the mens team.

My biggest complaint about today's game was that they called it extremely close for 90% of the game and then essentially didn't call anything where blood wasn't drawn at a few points in the game. If they're going to call a foul on a defender for riding the player with the ball down the floor, then call it all the time. And if you're going to call a foul when EE was barely hit on the head, then also call it when he gets clubbed by two defenders.

I think most players just want consistency and if they're not being consistent, then it is hard to adjust.

True that. The game gets really messed up by inconsistencies. One can adjust if the situation is predictable. If it's closer to random, then it's nearly impossible. At the end of the game Purdue was all over the Gophers, only getting fouls called when they wanted fouls; then the refs would blow the whistle immediately to stop the clock. The two most ridiculous situations were the smashing of EE with no call at the end, and one of the things that started the whole mess - the not one, not two, but three no calls on body fouls and reach-ins with Austin Hollins moving the ball up the court, which eventually ended in a turnover, bucket, and a huge momentum shift. It was at that point, also, that the refs decided to stop calling fouls on Purdue; and the game change thereafter was not simply coincidental. Refs definitely can and do control games and their outcomes.

As for your first statement, if EE or CI had played at Wisconsin they might still never had a foul called on them. OK, I'm exaggerating. But not really.

So because you played limited minutes for an awful D3 school that gives you the ability to magically know exactly how good players are even if you haven't seen them play? That's impressive. If I join a men's league will I develop some of your powers? Or is it too late for me?
