***OFFICIAL*** Minnesota Vs. Nebraska (GAME THREAD)

at least the abc guys keep saying good things about the stadium

The team, the university, the state, I dunno I could go on. Why buy the tickets if you a) can't afford them, b) can't go to the games, or c) will purposely sell them just to pay for the rest of the games at the expense of making our stadium look like a Nebraska home game.

I'm just glad to know that you're deciding what's best for others. It makes me feel reassured someone is in charge of making these rules.

Yeah...don't allow him to express his opinion. Because your's is the only reasonable one, right?

Can't I have some opinions? I guess it's so terrible of me to think "Gopher fans" making a buck off a game like this at the expense of what is supposed to be a home game for our boys on the field is wrong. Sorry I'll just keep to myself since apparently calling other people out for what I believe to be wrong isn't acceptable anymore.

He made the statement "They have some explaining to do."

No. They don't. It's a free market. They bought the tickets, they can do what they want with them. That's a fact, not an opinion.

You're right. But that doesn't mean they shouldn't feel bad or be held accountable for their actions when this is a result.

It is my OPINION that they have explaining to do to the team and university. It is also my OPINION that the university should (if they could, somehow) institute a policy whereby selling tickets to opponents, simply not showing up for more than 1 game, etc revokes their ability to buy tickets the next year. Give them to HS football players, bands, etc for free to get those butts in the seats.

That was a wussy call. I can't believe that's what they had in mind when they made up the taunting rule

No amount of fan support would help this hapless squad. Are you of the opinion that it would have somehow been better if those tickets were not sold? I salute anybody who has kept their tickets this long. They deserve a little return on their investment- there has certainly been almost no positive entertainment value.

Did Marcus Jones just get an unsportsmanlike conduct penalty for tossing the ball into the referees hands after his return? The ref was standing over the player and the ball hit the refs hands and the player as he was standing up next to the ref and he tossed his flag...WTF? Hard enough without all the help from the idiots in stripes.

The tickets already WERE sold. To the people who then turned around and sold then to Nebraska fans. OR have sold them to Iowa and Wisconsin fans in the past. All they would have had to do is show up to the game and cheer on the Gophers.

No, I don't think that the game would be won if the stands were 100% filled with MN fans. The perception of the program, its fans, and the university wouldn't take such a nose dive. In addition, a HUGE reason people go to college football games (particularly, you know, homecoming weekend) is to come and enjoy campus, the band, cheerleaders, the restaurants, tailgating, etc. All of which would have been PERFECT to do on a day like today. Isn't that the return on the investment they would get by buying tickets to MN football?

2 drops in the first half, if you're listening to the abc guys
no separation for our WRs can't help

Think he was being sarcastic.. at least that's how I read it..

He hasn't looked stellar today but the rest of the offense isn't helping much. The early snap isn't really his fault. The other fumble definitely was.

All of your reasoning is correct if we field a representative football team. This is not the case. The product on the field - week after week is the cause of the publicity nosedive that the University is taking.

Agree ultimately the team's on-field performance is what is evaluated by the media, but the perception of a program is much more than that. Why would recruits want to come to a university where fans not only don't show up but sell their tickets to the opposition?

Well, that's a reason that recruiting is going to be even harder here.

That said, college football is one of many entertainment options in this market. Unlike Lincoln, where it is really the only entertainment option. It's nice to be rah rah for the Gophers, but I can't blame anyone for trying to make some money back on their investment for what could hardly be called entertaining this year.

Then why'd they buy the tickets in the first place?

I'll argue again that while the team is the major draw for why people purchase tickets to a sporting event, the worse the team is the more the other factors have a play. I'd argue that at no other sporting even in America has a higher percent of the entertainment value being the gameday atmosphere - campus, band, sound, tailgating, traditions in the stadium, etc. With a team as bad as the Gophers last year, a bunch of graduating seniors, and a new coach, why buy the tickets in the first place????

So does anyone think Sparty has a chance tonight?

My number is 26. If Sparty can hold Badgers to 26 or less, they'll win. A tough chore, for sure.

At this point the fan support issue is not even on the map for recruits that are considering us. Right now it is a situation where they have to consider whether there is a chance that they will have winning seasons during their careers here. That's why we are probably going to get a lot of guys that don't have any big time options and want a shot at playing time at this level. Hopefully Kill is a supreme talent evaluator and can score big with under the radar guys.

Should be worth checking out for sure, I'll give it some air-time, and I'll go with Sparty by 2.

don't know about college, but i do remember jerry markbreit covering this for the nfl
in the nfl rule book there are forward and backward passes only...no laterals defined
backward passes can happen anywhere on the field (per my memory, which is suspect)
...and they are not treated as fumbles with respect to advancing - same as what was ruled in the gopher game

sucks

Absurd

Good lord, my high school team had 4 punters that were better than Orseske. Unbelievable

Really! What college teams are they playing for now? I realize that you are angry and are venting but making a statement like that is clearly absurd. I hereby nominate you for the most absurd statement of the year on the GopherHole and that is not an easy award to win.
