.....and the complete 180 they've done on Gopher Football. Hilarious!
I think the funniest part is listening to them try to spin it to sound like they've come around on their own valition.
 

Oh how so quickly we forget. The media and KFAN dropped off on TheU because the last regime turned them off. Right or wrong, that's why. Prior to Brew, I recall a ton of Gopher coverage, and it echoed a pretty damn objective view.
 

agree, but the interview PA did with Matt Anderle this morning was very good. Matt is well spoken, knowledgeable, realistic and was not afraid to disagree with PA. It was by far the best interview PA has had Gopher related and the fact that PA asked a question and shut up just long enough to let Matt answer the question was a step in the right direction. Hopefully PA and Matt can make this a common segment.
 

I'm sure a lot of it has to do with obtaining the rights to broadcast games but Brewster was definitely a polarizing figure. KFAN would be hard pressed to find a legitimate reason to hate on Kill right now.
 

back int he days of Dubay there was alot of gopher talk, but not much for football talk. Prior to PA and Dubay there was virtually no gopher talk except for Danny B/Hartman (chad) ripping them to pieces. If only Danny B was a boot licker to Mason like he is now there would have been much more coverage.

RADIO IS A BUSINESS. THEY WILL PUSH WHATEVER GOODS/SERVICES/THOUGHTS/ETC. THAT ARE IN THEIR OWN BEST INTEREST.

Do you really think the guy selling Kia cars truly thinks they're the best cars money can buy? Do you really think the guy selling Panasonic at Best Buy truly thinks they're the best home audio equipment money can buy?

KFAN is no different than any other business anywhere on God's green Earth. Seriously, get over it.
 

I'm ok with it, here's to hoping they give credit when its due in the future.

I'm also curious as to how they might handle a poor Vikings season combined with a good gophers' season. probably not this year simply because who knows how it all goes, but if the vikes end up 6-10 in a year when the gophers win 8 games I hope there's a shift in coverage. They've been stockpiling viking obsessed "talent" for years now.

I think it's fair to point out that the 180 they've pulled now indeed proves KFAN has held a grudge against the U for the better part of a decade, and it's not simply because of mediocre to bad performances.
 


Is criticism forbidden only regarding KFAN, or is Kia off limits too? Thought control gets a little tricky.
 



I remember them being all over Mason and Monson.
And if you remember, they were very critical of the Kill hiring before getting broadcast rights.
 

Everyone started humming a different tune after Kill came in and spoke, in that regard KFAN is no different than 'Holers.

No they were critical until they talked to him. That was before they got the rights. Also like most here when they saw who the other schools hired, they realized it was a good hire. Opinions change with more information.

No one is forbidding criticism or controlling thoughts. It's just that we've had literally this exact same thread 109870987 times now. It's a thoroughly played-out subject. How can anyone be surprised that KFAN would be positive toward its own project? I mean, seriously? Would you like me to start another Brewster vs. Mason thread? Perhaps a Weber thread? Maybe a marching band down University thread? Ooh! I know! I'll start a thread about how Station 19 is on the national register of historic places and how it's sacreligious that there's a BW3 there!

What?! They ripped on him simply because they didn't know who he was. Just like the majority of the fanbase. They came around as soon as his first presser wrapped up. Then a few guys did their homework and saw his history. They were in the LEAST warming up to him by the time it was rumored KFAN was getting the broadcast rights. I remember Danny B. talking to Kill shortly after the hire and admitting how much he liked the guy. He became a 'Gopher guy' prior to the announcement of KFAN's broadcast rights.

seriously why would KFAN have had a grudge against the U? what would the U have ever done to a radio station?

Not to mention Barriero attacked the TWolves for years while KFAN had their rights.
 

I enjoy KFAN... did so before and after they aquired the broadcast rights to Gopher football.
 

I hate KFAN, and that bald headed guy!!! I stopped listening to them years ago. What we need is a talk show that actually likes the Gophers, wants to talk about the Gophers, and is knowledgable of whats happening. KFAN is very inept at talking anything Gophers. We also need our newspapers to start supporting the "U" also instead of bashing.

Can't wait for the season to start!

kfan always has been and always will be a loser station. Their attitude towards Gopher Sports always has been and alway will be much less than adequate. Just think back to the "barerio (sp? Who cares?) and "sid's kid, chad" tag team whine fest in which those two always went out of their way to bash Gopher Sports. The fact that those two were teamed together was unforgivable. Finally, even they couldn't STAND to be together. Those two, paired together was the sadest thing you have EVER heard. Those two together were SO horribly inadequate you could not believe it.

NEVER trust the bashers at kfan. The idiotic macturi has handed the Gophers over to kfan to be the red-haired step-child of that less than adequate station. Hope that the vikings hit the skids really early on this season. Maybe a 2 or 3 with vikings season would be enough...but...I anticipate tht the stinking vikings will still get top billing on that totally inadequat kfan mess.

The history of kfan says that they will NOT treat Gopher Football well in comparison with the stinking vikings. The history of how kfan has treated Gopher Sports and especially Gopher Football is SO horrible and disgraceful that any one who has been around for the past twenty years or longer could NEVER be criticized for expressing disgust and anger about the kfan "Gopher Legacy mistreatment by kfan idiotic on air creeps. NEVER trust kfan's treatment of Golden Gopher Football.

Beware the inadequacy of kfan...

Gopher football gets exposed to a larger marketshare and you still find a reason to blame Maturi. Classic!

Protip: The Vikings will ALWAYS get top billing because they are by far the most popular team in town, that is unless the Gophers win mutliple Rose Bowls and/or National Championships. I think even then they might not be the cream of the crop.

What color are the clouds and the sky in this fantasy world that you strive for. If you want all gum drops and lollipops around your team, I wish you luck in finding any station for any team in any market that does this. That would also be the most boring content ever by the way.

What are you talking about? Is it so hard to wish that we have a sports talk radio show that may show interest in Gopher sports instead of the usual bashing day in and day out. I wasn't asking for peace love talk radio and praise everything Gophers. I would like a talk show that knows what they are talking about, instead of being inadequate known as KFAN that has no idea how to conduct a good interview. We need to be demanding more out of the Gophers. If they win sweet talk great, if they lose demand more and expect more.

Since you like to hear bashing Gopher all day continue to listen to KFAN. Clearly you didnt understand what I was saying.

From your past two posts in this thread, it's clear that you haven't listened to KFAN since Kill was hired. They are actually providing the service(s) you are claiming you would like in a radio station/show.

There have been a lot of differences since the Gophers landed on KFAN. During drive time they had a good discussion about the backup QB position yesterday. In the past, when they didn't carry the team it was doubtful they'd even know the names of any of the backup QB's... let alone discuss strengths and weaknesses and prospects of playing for each backup. If someone can find a local media outlet with more coverage, let me know... I'd be happy to listen or watch or read that too.

Like one poster said they did a 180. They spent years bashing, and now in 6 months they are all about the gophers and doing what I'm talking about. When they spent years pissing off listeners, no one can expect these same listeners to come back just because for 6 months now they are doing good and talking about gophers.

You would think with the size the MSP area is there would be more than a few stations that talk gopher football.

I'm not old enough to understand all the bitterness.

All I know is that my favorite team is being covered better and more in-depth now on KFAN than anywhere else. I don't have time in my life to worry about how unfair or fair they've been in their past. I'm just enjoying what's happening now.

Are you enjoying the Gopher Sports Weekly which KFAN hosts every Saturday for an hour? Last Saturday they even interviewed the new volleyball coach.

But yes, that bashing is sure a step down from the five minutes of Dave Lee and Sid Hartman incoherently talking Gophers at 6:40, 7:40 and 8:40 a.m. Don't forget the five minutes of Dave Lee with Joel Maturi once a week. Ahhh...the good ol' days. KFAN only put together more Gopher segments in the past five days than 'CCO did in a year.
