rivals has a post that hammock may go to wisconsin and join the enemy. i hope this doesnt happen.

IMO, unless it is a promotion I don't believe he would leave Minnesota. Remember he coached RB's for Kill at NIU.

I don't think he had any prior tie to Kill. He played and coached at NIU before Kill got there.

No, Hammock never coached or played for Kill.

Here is his coaching profile on Gopher Sports.

Yes, and Kill started at NIU in 2008.

That makes the Miller hire a lot bigger deal. He knows FLA, so there won't be a huge immediate hole there. I know he wants to be a head coach, and I think he can do it, but he has the same problem at Wisconsin that he has here. He is stuck behind a career OC that will not go anywhere.
At least here he is learning a new system, at Wisconsin he would be coaching a system he already knows. I would guess that would mean Anderson would be back as an active on the field coach.

Is this just a rumor? Not seeing anything about this over at GI on the front, football, or latest headlines pages.

Is there anymore to it? Rumors and drama perpetuate Rivals existence.

Probably not as big of a deal as we will make it out to be. He wasn't going to be OC. Reeves has shown he is probably a better RBs coach that him; and Anderson does a good job with HB/TEs. Miller will recruit Florida with his connections. Leaves us a QC guy to hire. O well.

Everything you say is true, but Hammock is one of the best recruiters in the Big Ten. Miller has connections in Florida, but he almost certainly will not recruit as well as Hammock has.

What happened to Kill guaranteeing continuity on the staff? It seems odd that Kill would have meetings with all of the coaches to gauge their long term interest in the program and then see a coach leave before we even start spring practice.

Things change, if true I would guess Sconnie made him an offer that was more appealing. Hammock has no tie to Kill so it isn't like he owes him anything.

If this is true.

Jump to conclusions much?

I just checked with Chicken Little and he confirmed that the sky is falling.

Again, it might be worth waiting to freakout until there is at least a link to what is clearly a rumor at this point. This isn't anywhere to be found on GI and no one in the MN/Gophers Twitter-verse is mentioning it.

Everyone who quotes this is forgetting one very important thing: Chicken Little was right, basically.

Maybe they are working on the plan for when Chryst leaves.

If he was going to be running backs coach at Wisconsin, the advantage is that he would be coaching what has been one of the best running games in college football, better chance of getting a OC postion somewhere by coaching there as apposed to Minnesota.

Coaches Contracts

I'm not saying it's the end of the world, in fact I was hinting that this may just be rumors. You'd think Kill's staff would be at least locked in for the next year.

Does anybody know what is the standard language for non head coaches contracts in regards to moving to another team?

You can move with impunity as long as you're getting a promotion. In the case of lateral moves (i.e., RB-to-RB coach) you can only leave your current team if you're getting a title promotion. In Hammock's case, he could only go to be Becky's RB coach if he got a title such as "associate HC", "assistant HC" or some other such fluff title along with the commensurate pay raise.

I'm pretty sure that is only in the NFL and not in college. Look at Boise OC going to Texas for the same position just like the Miss St DC did.

If he was just retained by Kill, wouldn't he be under contract?
