Did any see on the Scout.com boards that Kevin Whaley went up to a kid and punched him and then ran away and the kid was bleeding quite bad. I sure hope this is not true.

its a pretty garbage post, IMO. Why post that stuff? I don't doubt it though. People scrap evry day in college.

you're proving to be quite the little smear merchant there big play. Is that all you're good for?

Whats wrong with posting this? There are several people on KFAN who witnessed it as well. Are you suggesting we just bury/ignore things like this like a SEC school would?

No, there's nobody on KFAN who noticed it. There's one guy who said he heard from one of his "sources" about what happened. 3rd and 4th hand accounts aren't necessarily facts. Maybe it's true, maybe it's not. I'll wait on judgement before I believe everything I read on the Internet.

Who cares?? This will get swept under the rug just like Van De Steeg's bar brawl last Summer?

Boys will be boys :)

I got into a fight when I was in 11th grade. Funny how no one cared about it other than the poor soul who made a stupid mistake by being rude with my girlfriend.

But I HEARD

that the guy who got punched, like TOTALLY deserved it. At least that's what Tina said.

But you can never tell about Tina. Did you see what she was wearing last week? OMG! Her mom's a such gossip queen and I don't think that's her real Dad either.

Wanna get some frozen yogurt later? Far out!!! Meet me back at the sorority house ok?

Its not even one "guy". Its pantherhawk smearing the Gophers by obsessing over anything Minnesota. He found it on Scout and took it as fact and just posted to smear anything Minnesota. If there was something to this, I'm sure we would have heard by now.

Nervous Gopher if you are going to be a "fan" don't be a dick posting everything negative that you can. You aren't a fan then. You are just as bad as the Iowa douches all over doing nothing but smearing the program. They don't need your help.

I don't see anything wrong with asking about it? It could very well be nothing, but if people are talking about it, that's what a message board is for.

Effinig hilarious post....I love sarcasm!

I wasn't directing my post towards Big Play but to the guy on Scout who posted it

If you are an Athlete

You have a target on your front and back. The standard, your not so tough, is a form of greeting. I'm gonna kick youre ass. I have been there, done it. The alcohol content is a factor, and there is always some pushing and shoving, maybe a swing and miss. Its unfortunate but it happens. I was in a wrestling/shoving match all the time saying I don't want to fight you, but in the heat of the moment the offender went over a bumper and down a concrete drainage wall.

If this happened, only one side of the story is comming forward.

It's something that should be dealt with at the team level. I have every bit of confidence Brew and his staff are on top of it. We of course have avery right to be snoopy about it. But i doubt we'll ever know much unless it comes from the punchee's side our an eye witness.

I thought BigPlay opened this thread with a legitimate question, open ended, and ended it with a disclaimer:

He was NOT advocating that it happened, just questioned the situation.

Big Play asked:

"Did any see on the Scout.com boards that Kevin Whaley went up to a kid and punched him and then ran away and the kid was bleeding quite bad. I sure hope this is not true."

I don't see where he did anything wrong in his opening thread.

WHO CARES

It was probably some frat douche that deserved it.

tj...when I was an undergrad, I was in a very private frat... Gamma Delta Iota.... GDI'S for short. Heard of that group?

No, my guess isn't very nice so I'll keep it to myself.

I also resemble that remark. Of course my frat was more animal house like than snob.

Then you know what I mean....We GDI's didn't try impress anyone, right? We just had lots of fun.

like all things google came to the rescue. It was not the acronym I thought it was. And I do remember that term now that google has reminded. But no, I was actually in a fraternity.

Ocassionally a young man deserves to get smacked-up.

Obviously it is never 100% right to hit someone. But in some cases, it's not entirely "wrong". We have this attitude that it is possible to find absolute justice in society ... and that an act of physical violence can never possibly be "justified".

But perfect justice is theoretical. So people's zero-tolerance attidude towards isolated violonce among young men is completely ridiculous. In most physical altercations among young men, pride usually gets more bruised that anything else. It's not like guns and knives were involved, or a pattern of violence has been established.

Case closed.

Wasn't he actually shot last year.....by a gun?

yes...he was shot last year...

so far, we have 3 data points on mr whaley:

1 he's a baller...at least he was before his 3am 'incident' outside the carribean nite club in virginia last year...:(

2 after getting shot in the leg, he had a titanium rod surgically placed in his thigh, which made brewster's continual prognostications last summer that he would be ready to go 'by game 2 or 3' of last fall quite un-believable at the time :(

3 he allegedly punched somebody's lights out recently, perhaps an indication he is getting healthy

the bottom line...no matter how justified  whaley prolly needs refrain from engaging in dubious activities...and focus on getting ready for spring ball :D

The point of Mr. Whaley is this...either he become a model citizen or get the hell out of Dodge. The same holds true for all scholarshipped student-athletes.

This is a great post. I saw this kid of stuff happen here and there when I went to the U. I knew some guys on the OL and would be at the same house parties from time to time. I think of this whenever there is a Van DeSteeg type brawl story.

The attitude on here is so self righteous. If any scholarship kid isn't a model citizen they should kick him out? Kevin Whaley comes from a part of the U.S. where they settle things with guns, not fists. So something happens in a nightclub and some moron drives by and shoots him instead of fighting like a man and you want to hold Whaley responsible? I am sure none of you have ever been in an altercation before.

So far there is one guy on a forum that does not even know Kevin Whaley that swears he saw something and now we have "fans" on here insinuating that the kid is some sort of cancer? He has three known "data points" one of which is he had a medical procedure done. Give me a break. This kind of talk is irresponsible without facts.

So now we are ripping frats because some rumor may or may not have been true? Let's see if we can find another group that makes us uncomfortable to rip. C'mon, people are people. I was not a frat member, but I had friends who were. Stupid.

WOW show us how you really feel.

the point is, when one is an athlete at the University of Minnesota, whether we like it or not, are held at higher standards. That, my friends, is a fact of life. I do NOT know if Big Play's question ever got answered or not, but the point is, if a normal everyday student gets into a tustle, no word from anyone. If an athlete gets into one, it is news. To me, that is wrong, but that is the way it is. The public holds representatives responsible for their actions....just ask politicians.

BTW, if you are referring to Big Play, all he did was ask a question about if anyone else saw an article. He did NOT say he saw it happen. And no one has answered his questions. That bothers me...
