I listened to a podcast a few months ago with a couple of the top handicappers in Vegas and they said that the elite sports gamblers in the industry only win 55% of their bets.

Sorsby will be allowed to play in the NFL and some team will take him in the Supplemental Draft. For example, the Steelers.

The NFL set the precedent by allowing Hunter Dekkers from Iowa State to be eligible in the League.


I would absolutely love the Vikings to take him as the practice squad QB over Brosmer, just doubt that will happen with terrible McCarthy still on the team.

Ken Paxton apparently blew this whole thing wide open with his threat of legal action.

Big 12 filed in federal court, using his threat as part of their justification, and it was that lawsuit which quickly brought TT and Sorsby to heel.
 

NFL decides not to have a supplemental draft. Love it....looks like he can go play in the CFL if he wants to next year. Wonder what kind of action he can get on those games?

I think the NFLPA might push the issue to get clarity on similar situations that may occur in the tuture. NFLPA hasn't shown the solidarity thta thte MLBPA has (at least in recent years) and the MLBPA is already dumping on the baseball owners' proposed changes to the MLB amateur draft. It is apples-and-oranges (or pigskins-and-horsehides) because of the different entry rules into the leagues, but I think there is some ground for Sorsby to stand on give he could have declared for the regular draft and would have if he had known his betting habits were going to cause this big of a problem for him. For his sake, I hope he saved some of his previous NIL money.

The article you quoted was from 2020. Last supplemental draft was in 2019 and has not been once since. So while it was certainly very common prior to 2019 the lawyer isn't going to be able to make a case that the NFL is doing something different by not holding a supplemental draft since there hasn't been on for multiple years.

True, but have there been applications for a supplemental draft since the last one? I trankly don't know.

It is nigh on impossible to defend Sorsby and one reaps what they sow and all that jazz, but I don't see the NFL as employing a collection of saints. I think we all have to admit that gambling is different than other offenses that leagues tend to overlook or punish lightly as it places a shadow over the competition itself.

If there was a supplemental draft, I have little doubt that someone would have selected Sorsby. The gambling issue probably would have pushed him down a few rounds, but I have a difficult time believing that someone wouldn't have spent a day-three pick to take him.
 

I'm not sure this isn't a good thing for him anyways. Take a year off, show NFL teams you've gotten your life together, and then his opportunities might open up a lot more the following year.
