All Things Carter Cupito Recruiting Thread (Class of 2030; son of former Gopher Bryan; Gophers offered)

Marcus chimes in:

Gophers football coach P.J. Fleck doesn’t mind recruiting players before they enter high school … if he sees enough talent and potential.

That was the case with rising freshman quarterback Carter Cupito, who announced a scholarship offer from the Gophers on Tuesday.

Cupito started as an eighth-grader on the varsity football team for SMB — a co-op program involving St. Paul Academy, Minnehaha Academy, Blake and Hope Academy — last fall.

Carter doesn’t play like a 14-year-old middle schooler, though. He’s the son of Bryan Cupito, the third all-time leading passer in Gophers history.

The younger Cupito threw for nearly 1,600 yards with 12 touchdowns and five interceptions for a 7-3 team in 2025, which included a season-high four touchdown passes in a win vs. Concordia Academy.

Also a standout point guard in basketball, Cupito averaged 12.4 points and 3.5 assists this past season for Class 2A state champion Minnehaha Academy. He was named to the Class 2A all-tournament team.

Go Gophers!!

Dude has some skill on the court and gridiron but let’s be real.. dude will be driving to school next year probably already driving..

Minnehaha Atheletic administration was notorious for bringing kids into the middle school then red shirting them… not sure if this was the case here…

He is a 2011 birth year according to a Google search. So that would make him able to drive sometime in 2027.

Not following...what does his athletic talent have to do with "being real" and how that correlates to when he gets his driver's license?

Not sure what you are getting at in the next sentence either.

Not sure either, but in Texas redshirting elementary school kids (especially boys) was the norm for parents who thought their kid was destined for gridiron or baseball greatness. I had a former college classmate and fellow bartender who coached in Texas and he said there were a ton of 7-year-old boys starting first grade and every now and then an 8-year-old.

Some club sports (soccer and hockey come to mind, though I might be wrong) have gone to organizing by birth year.

I'm starting to wonder if high school should do the same.

Not a fan of the redshirting/holding back nonsense.
