Oregon Dan Lanning: Koi is "football serious."

But if you wanna "read" into the quote, maybe Lanning is saying something like that lol. For example, I'm a software engineer. If I took a new job and after a few months or so someone asked my supervisor about me and if all he said was, "he's computer serious" I'd be a little disappointed and I'd start wondering if I'm going to survive the 90 day review.
I like the analogy.

"Great hire. He's really 'coding serious'. He hasn't fixed a bug or shipped a usable feature in over a month, and our senior devs Flowers and Woodyard have to keep checking his work, but man, it sure looks like he's trying hard. His custom keyboard and mouse combo are next-level sick."

I don't buy the "no class" statement.

Perich played through the Bowl, helped them to victory and to the best of my knowledge has not trashed the Gopher program verbally nor in any either medium.

I'm bummed he left but that's the deal in collegiate sports these days. Next man up.
Agree with this
I do think he comes across as a meat head but isn’t the first football player to come across that way.
If someone is going to pay him nfl money when IMO he isn’t a guaranteed nfl player he would be foolish to pass it up

Lave me alone boss!

Don’t give a damn about Oh Ray Gone!

Local Duck homer with a midway-point assessment of winners and losers for Ducks spring ball this year. Koi is first to be discussed so pretty easy watch. Also makes an interesting observation about "dropoff" in performance from Year Zero to Year 1 for Koi as a Gopher.

WARNING: Do not watch this if you do not care about the former Gopher now wearing green...

I disagree with his observation (That his drop-off was due to teams scouting him, passing away from him, etc)

We all watched it. He was terrible in the run game, took way too many chances that led to extended plays and completions downfield, or 4 yard runs turning into 12. A lot of bad football-IQ plays both in normal D and special teams.

Tend to agree with you but certainly opposing QBs likely attempted to direct the offense away from him. Same thing happened with Antoine however his football-IQ was off the charts, and with his hustle it often didn't matter. Back to the issue in the piece, as a Duck homer playing away from him would be a natural place to go for an explanation.

As an aside, it does appear Oregon too may toy with Koi on the offensive side of the ball too. That will be interesting to see.

Finally in fairness to the kid from Esko, it is possible that he entirely lives up to the hype at Oregon. If he does then this Gopher will reflect on what if anything it means for the state of our program. Going negative there would certainly be nipped in the bud if this was an "up year" like 2019 whatever that might look like.

It's spring and I've put on my maroon-colored glasses to brighten up my day. Ski U Hope!

Koi goes from the most loved player to being hated on in the span of 8 months here. Lol.

I'll bet he has a very good season in Oregon, and I'm happy we had him for two years.

Why is that funny? If somebody leaves you, then most people tend not to forgive them. Happens all the time in divorce situations. Human nature.

Hell hath no fury like a Gopherholer scorned.

Dude can't even pronounce Koi's last name correctly. Anyway, tough to say if "Perish" will have a good year. He tried to be a Brett Favre–like hero here in certain situations, and it backfired in more than a few cases... horribly. I've always thought he was a cocky frat boy here, so it will be interesting to see how his personality is in a place with arguably better athletes than there were here—and possibly more cocky frat boys.

Frat boy from Esko? I don’t think so. Cocky, yes. He tried to do too much last year and we had some of the worst cornerbacks on one side of the field that we have had in the past 20 years out there and he probably tried to cover up for that which made things even worse. I’ll miss having them around. He was interesting and a game changer.

Yeah, after his freshman year the expectation was he was going to play like a superstar and while he was not a bad player last year (with the exception of the Cal game) he also never got close to living up to the superstar hype.

Will be interesting to see how he does there. He clearly has talent but he didn't come close to playing at the level most expected from him last season.

Frat boys can only come from big cities. Thanks! Got it!

Different to be upset he left. At least in my opinion a lot more than that going on here

I suppose. This is well covered territory I guess. I just find it amusing when others can't understand why a player's leaving would upset people. I would have been shocked if he hadn't immediately become one of the most disliked people on GH... the minute he signed with another team.

We've got plenty of guys who love being here, aren't cocky and playing here as a team. Koi wanted to be the center of the attention. That doesn't work well with a team concept.

I’d prefer he just be honest and just come out and say it was about getting paid rather than claiming he wanted a chance to win a championship. If he wanted that he wouldn’t have signed with the gophers in the first place. Not that the gophers could never make it happen at some point but knowing where we were at the time it was well known it wasn’t realistic in the next 2-3 years. Oh well, we got a few wins with his help while he was here.

I’d prefer that too, but seems to be par for the course. Haven’t really seen any transfers openly state that money was the driving force. It’s perfectly reasonable, but a faux pas apparently.

Honestly I think getting every opportunity last year in all 3 phases and having just an okay year (IMO) likely was a wake up call for him.

There is going to be less pressure, more money, more winning at Oregon. Maybe he thinks not being a big name will help him get better and he know he has to get better? That’s my hope for him.

My hope too (about him going to Oregon), however if the Duck Homer in the link above is any indication, then the close observers and probably most involved fans know exactly who they got with Koi. We shall see.

UPDATE: Oregon's Spring Game is today (4/25) at 3 PM CST on BTN for those interested. Got the DVR set for it myself.

I don't know why people are talking about Koi so much. I didn’t see him make a single tackle in the Gopher spring game this year. I think he needs to work on his tackling.

I'm watching the Oregon spring game right now. All I've seen is the first TD pass was thrown in between he and another defender. Not watching real closely, but think he only played for a short while?
