All Things 2026 Minnesota Twins In-Season Thread

I just can't get over the Varland trade. Talk about stupid stupid. Alan Roden and Kendry Rojas for one of the best relievers in baseball.

That would be like the Twins being able to trade Matt Wallner for a top tier 8th inning guy. And he's not even making a million bucks this year. Just a stupid horrific trade

I second guessed the trade from the outset as not being like the others from the Trade Deadline purge, especially with Varland being a local kid.

However, calling it "stupid stupid" and horrific at this point seems way too early before Rojas has even thrown a pitch for the Twins. He will be a reliever now, but it's possible he could be turned into a starter in the future.

As a southpaw, that could be valuable as they have not had one in the rotation for multiple seasons now. Even if he stays in the bullpen but is productive, that is also a good commodity to have, especially with a 100% RHP rotation.

Yeah I jumped the gun on Rojas but I still hate that they got rid of Varland. Made no sense to me

Agree, likely the only way the deal will make sense is if Rojas and/or Roden pan out for the Twins. Another possibility would be to flip them for other assets.

On the bright side, if the deal flops the executive responsible for the deal is no longer with the organization as well as that person's boss (at the time of the transaction).

Would be fun to see him get in with a low leverage inning. His stuff is top shelf.

Preilipp should be exciting today- his fastball has been clocked at 98😎

The other trades seem to be working out so far at least. Jax has been terrible, Duran is on the IL and Brock Stewart is hurt as well (surprise, surprise).

But yeah, Varland would be really nice to have. He might end up being the Blue Jays closer as Hoffman has been awful for them.

The Twins traded fan-favorite Tom Brunansky for clubhouse cancer Tommy frickin' Herr on this date in 1988

In my life watching/listening to Twins games on radio & TV I do not ever recall a former player on the broadcast crew who I could not remember anything about their time in MLB. That goes back to Frank Quilici.

Tonight the 3rd man on the field & dugout was Anthony Recker. Zero recollection.

He was never a Twin, though he was at AAA Rochester for brief stint in 2017, after appearing in 7 MLB Seasons.

Get to know him...

I suspect he just happened to be available as a freelancer. He also subs in on Mets games.

I look forward to adding him to my New Player Roster on the Immaculate Baseball Grid.
They were just talking about this guy, maybe a good one to add to your mental rolodex

SF o happy to be wrong and that they’re now aggressively going to play these guys if the call them up😃.

Things it’s great because Zebby & Festa should realize by now, they better make the most of their opportunities moving forward.

He was nasty with them 6 punch outs

It would be interesting to know what team has failed to score with bases loaded the most over the last decade because it sure seems like the Twins would be #1 in that category. Not in a good way!

Damn. 2 Walks and a bloop.

I had to make sure my Twins.TV wasn't on "Mirror" mode with Southpaw Prielipp as the Twins Starting Pitcher.

Bummer loss. Better glove work could have prevented the Mets 2nd & 3rd runs.

Gotta love it when a legend is impressed

Rojas also turned the head of Twins legend Johan Santana in camp. It wasn’t the fastball, wipeout slider or changeup that caught Santana’s eye; it was the young pitcher’s makeup.

“It’s details,” Santana said in February. “He’s willing to learn, and he’s asking questions, and to me, that is important. Because then you put yourself in a good situation to be successful.”

Festa update from Twins’ MLB best written, Matthew Leach.

Sounds like he’s pen bound to me -

Right-hander David Festa is getting closer to a return to the mound following a right shoulder injury in Spring Training. He’s slated to start throwing live batting practice this week, after which it will be time to start looking at rehabilitation assignments. As for the other question regarding Festa, that may be a developing situation as well.

The Twins need bullpen help, and Festa’s combination of power stuff and ongoing health issues suggest he might be a fit in a relief role. General manager Jeremy Zoll indicated Wednesday that there may be clarity regarding Festa’s role in the near future.

“I know the role conversation remains a relevant question,” Zoll said. “We’re going to have more to come probably next week on that.

If the season ended right now, the Twins own the Wild Card Tie-breaker over the Texas Rangers and would be the #6 Seed, heading to face Sacramento for a Best of 3.

MLB could force the Athletics to another venue should they make the Post-Season.

They can go play in the Giants stadium. They won't be using it....

Oakland-Alameda County Coliseum is still functional as far as I know.

That would be quite a Welcome Home.

Hope Keaschell starts producing a bit - he’s killing us.

And just like that the bullpen blows it again
That one is on Shelton. You can't use Anthony Banda in that spot. Literally anyone else would have been better. Banda and Outman should be released released tomorrow for Funderburk and Roden.

Roden is out at least a month now unfortunately.
Looks like no baseball activities at all for Roden for a month, so after that he would need several weeks of rehab and minor league games to be functional at the MLB level.

Nice update from a national MLB writer on Tait and an A’s catching prospect

Both dealt for top-tier closers at the 2025 Trade Deadline, Leo De Vries and Eduardo Tait may have their Minor League careers closely watched in lock step. As it turns out, both have been red-hot to begin 2026.

De Vries, the Athletics’ No. 1 prospectand MLB Pipeline’s No. 4 overall, collected three hits Wednesday -- his sixth multihit game of the year. Tait, the Twins’ No. 3 prospect and MLB Pipeline’s No. 56 overall, whacked his third homer of the season among three hits and four RBIs.

De Vries’ big night came in a 7-3 win for Double-A Midland over Springfield. Still just 19 years old and serving as the youngest qualified regular in the Texas League, De Vries went to the opposite field for all three of his hits: an RBI single in the third, a double in the seventh and another double in the ninth. The switch-hitting shortstop also walked and struck out.

Through 18 games after headlining the Mason Miller last season, De Vries is slashing .333/.427/.464. He’s in the top 10 of the Texas league in hits (23), average and OBP.

Tait, acquired as part of the Jhoan Duran deal, is also still just 19. His performance came in a 12-10 loss for High-A Cedar Rapids against Peoria.
The lefty-hitting catcher, serving as the DH on Wednesday, skied a one-out, 2-0 pitch off the batter’s eye in center field in the first inning to open the scoring. He came back in the third inning with an RBI groundout. Tait then mashed a two-run double off the wall in the fifth and singled in the seventh. He also struck out once.

Tait, with a hit in two consecutive games, is now up to a strong .943 OPS in 16 games.
