Her APG may have been lower if her UCF teammates weren't that good (missed their shots). I imagine it will rise when surrounded by GG, Mara, Tori and Woodson.

In the highlights reel, in reference to her 38 points against Kansas, she said she tried to pass it to her teammates but they kept dishing it back to her yelling at her to shoot. So I think that was part of it for sure.

This is for every recruit and transfer who the heck knows if any player will be productive in the context of the gophers program.

With that said isn’t the progression you want to see with the transfers that are coming to the gophers.

2 years ago we added low production high major or ok mid production players in Stewart and Rose

Last year we moved up the ladder and added a average production P4 starter in Glenn

Now we got a highly productive P4 starter with faults. (Same as Merkle if they land her)

On paper we are moving up the ladder on quality of transfer and that is huge for the program (that does not mean every player will be a success but this is the progress that we want to see as a program)

Well, if nobody else said it...I surely hope she believes she's coming here to start.
She can shoot, she can pass and has some quickness. We do need a point guard.
Either her or Tori O needs to play. I'd assume it is Leah Harmon.
She averaged 15.7ppg in the Big 12. She shoots 84% from the line and 37% from 3.
Does that sound like a backup? I'm saying she's coming to start.
And she looks good and she'll get better.

Yeah, I mean it doesn't make sense to me to bring a player like that and keep her on the bench. She's likely your starter while the freshman get their bearings and begin contributing more and more. I saw a post game press conference where she talked about what she's looking for when she brings the ball down the court. How she decides to play the situation and set things up. She seems to have a high basketball IQ as the kids call it.

She had a True Shooting Percentage of 52.6% last season. That's better than Battle, but it's not good.

Battle made up for her shooting woes by being a better passer, being a good defender and excellent rebounder.

With Harmon's size, inability to distribute the ball, and poor defense, she's best suited to be a scoring option off of the bench.

The Gophers are taking a step back as a program with Harmon, which is too bad because the 3 returning starters are capable of another good run with adequate support.
 

Battle was not an excellent passer.. see the game don’t watch .. 10 dribbles later Battle would pass as a last option.. Battle took great care of the ball last year.. but getting the ball across half court could be painful

No one said excellent. She's a better passer than Harmon.

you mean they are taking a step back in getting the 33rd ranked player in the 2024 class?

Starter or not, she should definitely be in the game at the end because of the 84%.
With her, Braun (90%) and McKinney (84%) we should be good with protecting a late lead.

This is underwhelming. It's ok to say it and wished for better. Maybe they can do better with the remaining players.
 


I’m a fan of the Harmon pickup, though it comes with some real questions (most portal acquisitions do). There’s also a money component here. The Gophers may very well not have a lot of money for PG, given that Minnesota is a finalist for Merkle, who is going to command a lot more money than Harmon. Coach P also has a good batting average (not 1.000) when it comes to undervalued talent.

Okay, I only watched the highlight video I linked. Did you watch that? She's fun to watch! Her passing vision in the highlights is very good...I did not see the penetration dropoff passes the last couple years for the Gophers that Harmon executes. She has some very nice entry passes to post in the highlights...the low, crisp, quick, perfectly placed bounce passes...not the soft 7 foot high air passes to the post that allow and alert the defense to double team. I like Battle but disagree she's a better passer (just from a Harmon highlight video) but watching Battle for years. This girl can defend...she got in a stance and picked somebody in the backcourt in the highlights. The ability is there.

How she plays is coaching but she has ability. Totally disagree she can't shoot or pass. Why you saying she's a bad defender? She has the ability to dog opposing point guards...her defense is on Coach P to motivate and encourage her to do what she's asked to do consistently. The quickness and attitude is there in one highlight...how often it happens is coaching. Her defense can be an upgrade asset as well.

Who are you saying could put together a dramatically better highlight tape among the 3 starters? None are close as passers. Harmon is a better passer than Battle. Harmon is going to be playing with better teammates. She's going to have better coaching. Statistically she shoots a higher % from 3 than Grace, Tori or Braun. Or Battle as you agreed.

Olivia Miles was the 2nd overall pick in the draft. She is tiny, but she can obviously play. This girl is much stronger and she can play too. Truthseeker...Harmon has talent...give it a chance...see where it's at when the Big Ten rolls around after she gets settled in.
I like Battle...thought she was great as Gopher...hope she sticks with the Lynx. I don't know if she will be....but this girl can be better and more exciting to watch.
 

Agree all around. I am excited for the possibilities here. No matter what evidence you share, however, some will always continue to antagonize and offer rebuttals with no proof of their own. They just like to stir the pot, trying to get a reaction from you. As a wise former boss once told me, not everything someone says is worth a response.
