All Things 2026 Transfer Portal Thread

I have no idea if Niko is recruiting Kyle Evans or not, but I looked in to him when he entered the portal. He played two years for Niko, but played very sparingly in both seasons. Assuming he's someone Niko wants, I would wonder how Evans would feel going back to a coach that hardly played him for his final year of college ball ? Not saying it would be the case, but many players don't look back fondly on coaches that didn't play them. As far as on the court, it's so hard to tell with players coming from 1 bid low major leagues. The facts that he both blocks a lot of shots and shot nearly 80% from the line are encouraging. However, he's really thin and only shot 2.8 free throws a game at that low major level where he should have quite an advantage inside. He'd certainly be another veteran piece that knows the offense, whether he has the talent to make an impact at the Big Ten level would the question.

Since they Kyan Evans stuff from the Gopher 247 site is on here, I will note that the Tar Heel 247 site said a week or two ago that Evans camp was backchanneling with other schools during the season. I take it as a good sign that Niko wants Kyan and that my concerns about him are unwarranted. Certainly seems very likely that a commitment will come on the visit.

Yeah, it's hard to gauge what the dynamic might have been between Kyle and Niko at CSU. However, it's not that some of his playing time wasn't impacted by injury. In that, he sustained a broken hand/thumb injury during his time with the team. This injury occurred during his freshman season (2022-23), on a "freak play" in practice, which required him to miss the remainder of that season. So, again was that injury still having some impact in year two as well, who knows. I thought based on his performance at UC-Irvine last year, he at least warranted some comments.

Great info, the injury certainly provides a different context. Totally agree that he warrants a conversation.

We could give examples for days...but more comparable would be the Star Tribune or the Athletic...if I subscribe and read it....then I tell you what I read...you think I violated some law in 2026? I just don't see it that way. Maybe you are correct and technically it really is the law...IDK

Here is what I will tell you as business owner in the Twin Cities in a real life experience what did happen with your stolen vehicle example. Someone did steal the company van. I called the cops to report it. The response in 2025:
"What do you want me to do about it?" Me: Well, I got video surveillance of the guy doing it...he got a ride and was dropped off in a car with this license plate. Then, he got in our van and after a bit drives away. Cops response: "What if his friend stole the car he dropped him off in?" I said, So, if I'm hearing you right, you are not interested in doing anything about this? "That's correct."
Also, not a one time reaction to vandalism, theft etc in the last couple years. And other business owners have similar stories.
So, there is that in 2026. And if someone does go to trial, gets convicted, the judge gives them a warning not to do it again for the 13th time. That's what I see....it ain't 1950, 1965, 1975 anymore.
The accountants advice...theft is just part of doing business. The attorneys advice....well, you could pay me and maybe I can bring the guy to trial but it'll cost you 10X the value and then what...you can say you won? ....after thousands of dollars and the perp is laughing at us. Let it go is the advice in 2026.
Wow! What a fricking joke our justice system has become. If you decide to take matters into your own hands then you would be charged with vigilante justice and you probably wouldn’t see the light of day with the way these judges are today. Such a messed up world we live in. I also own a small business and had basically the same issue but with staff members purses being stolen. Had the perp on video, had clear evidence, even had the car she drove away in. I knew the cops wouldn’t do anything, but my staff were so upset. I told my crying office gal, “don’t worry, officer X will be certain to not do a damn thing about your stolen items…just like always even though we have all the proof they need to do something”. What happened? Exactly nothing! Staff were so mad they didn’t do anything. Maybe a life of crime is the way to go these days. Little work, easy hours, slap on the wrist if you get caught. Hmmm…

Can someone explain to me the excitement about Nolan Groves? Barely played at all at Texas Tech and when he did he was completely underwhelming...23% from the field, 50% from the line...was a good HS player against overmatched competition but I don't think he has a high major skillset or even the potential to develop into one. Reminds me of Treyton Thompson.
He is a big and athletic guard who was player of the year in MN while playing in a decent conference. The Texas Tech team was pretty stacked.

As far as comparisons to Treyton Thompson, IMO, there are some big differences. Thompson actually struggled a bit after he transferred to La Lumiere and Thompson did not get much run on a bad Gopher basketball team.

There are guys I'd be more excited to get, but I get the excitement for Groves.

I think these are the guys I would target if I was a Minnesota level program. Hey 5* kid from Duke/KU we know you didn't get a ton of time there, you have ask the time here, come here and light it up

It's really blowing my mind how many kids are transferring out of these programs. We know there is plenty of money there, and you'd think they'd have more leverage (especially at KU), with so many others leaving.

Does money dry up when the guady payroll doesn't meet expectations? Is there pressure from big donors to blow it up? Do players actually think they'll make more elsewhere?

I am hoping that Carrington applies for a waiver for an extra year because of his mental health issues. And I want to see the look on Bobloblaw‘s face when he does it.
Carrington should get an extra year based on mental anguish/suffering being stuck playing on a team with a clueless coach.

I realize everyone is now calloused from NIL, but players do still move around for reasons other than money. Not saying I know anything about the kid leaving Duke, but maybe he doesn't think Scheyer will play him as much as he should or like Raleigh-Durham.

Up and down season, averaged 9.5 PPG and 4.2 rpg in 24 minutes

Some go for the money, some for the goal of being the star. At Duke for example, a kid who might be a star somewhere else has to worry about getting replaced or diminished by some 5 star one and done kid.

Beat me too it.....obviously money is a big part of the equation for most players but doesn't necessarily mean they will always go to the highest bidder. Playing time, system fit, location....a lot of other factors go into these decisions.

I've wondered about that, say a kid gets 1 million bucks at a big budget school out of high school but didn't pan out. I assume the agreements are year to year. Their school says you are welcome to stay but we only have 300k in the budget for next year. His agent comes in and says I can get you 600k and you'll see the floor so go for it.

If I'm a booster and my million dollars is going to somebody who averages 6 ppg I'm not going to be too happy.

I imagine some coaches are struggling to manage having this many bosses.
