Oregon Dan Lanning: Koi is "football serious."

Please last article on Koi. In my eyes he is a loser who kicked his fellow Gophers in the groin for more money.
If somebody offered me a million $ more to jump jobs I would hop quickly. But I am right there with you in hoping folks don't' post an article every week on how much Koi loves being a duck.

You’re an idiot if you don’t take significantly more money to do the same job at a better company.
It depends. This is perhaps a bit comparing apples to oranges, but personally, in my line of work I strongly prefer indie studio than a AAA one. It's more meaningful and I get to work on passion projects rather than cog in a meaningless big title.

The Gophers are just a shittier version of the same thing.

You'd rather work for a better AAA studio than a shittier AAA studio, I assume.

But I get your point :)

I'm not going to throw shade at Koi, but I agree with your points. There are factors other than money that go into decisions about where to ply your trade. Sports may be a bit different in that there is a use-by date for the players while other vocations have a longer stretch, but getting to work with people you enjoy working with and on projects that are of greater personal value are also in the equation.

My only beef at this point with Koi is the very obvious dropoff in attitude between Season 1 and Season 2. You could see it from the stands and on the cathode ray tube. Now that we know it all, we did not have lyin' eyes.

It's one thing to chase the money but another to decide to be less-than-elite. Guilty on both counts.

God the sour grapes by some people on here...

Huge national recruit chooses the local team. Plays two years here, Gophers do not win a ton and a better offer comes up with a legit shot at a natty and much deeper pockets. The kid is like 20 years old and people are complaining he is not thinking like a 50 something that has been in a career for 25-30 years. I don't know what he was making here, but I am assuming he is getting close to double it from Oregon, and has a chance to be on a bigger stage. He gave MN two good years.

Good for him he left. Now I care nothing about him. Let's talk about the kids that are here.

If he rides the pine I’m not sure it was a better offer. But other than that I agree

If he makes mental mistakes and misses tackle, Oregons backup is better

I don't think it's "sour grapes" to not give a shit about any kid that left the program. My only beef with him is that he clearly quit on his team halfway through last season as Mr. Biild pointed out in his post up above.

Good for him grabbing the cash but this is the last I personally ever need to hear about Koi again. Just my opinion, of course. This is Kerry Brown's secondary now!

Meh,

He picked the ball off against USC......a great moment.

He picked the pass off against Purdue (I think it was Purdue) or we lose.

He helped win some games. Probably was a total diva last year, but it would have helped if anyone up front could make a tackle.

He then left........oh well.

huh? two? really?
Yes, in my opinion. It is possible to be good but not be as good as some hoped for.

For example - many people here think that Brockington was a good player, but he might not have been as good as many had hoped or expected.

Thats a fair take. I would agree dont need to hear about him anymore. And there are plenty of people here that went a lot further than not giving a crap about a kid leaving the program.

I have no hate for the kid and I understand why he did it, but I don't think the bold is some Hallmark story. He's a 20 year old millionaire who left to make more money (and a bigger stage). That's cool, I think of college football more like pro football now. That said, if we are treating it like pro football, Koi gave us 1 great year and 1 bad year. If you factor in the amount of our NIL funds it required to keep him in the fold last year, it looks even worse.

I genuinely wish him well. I am still a rube and my default position is to root for local players (until I have reason not to), but Koi is no different than any other player who leaves my team during free agency.

Remember last year at this time when the media pumped the market of ‘JJ MAC is great’ pieces? One story is fine but if we get more of these about koi….
