All Things 2026 Transfer Portal Thread

I’m sure it has varied year to year but can someone remind me when we usually start getting some portal commitments? Was thinking it was late April/May.

What say you Gopher Holers? I couldn't watch the Green Bay game, would he be someone we should be interested in?

I guess it depends upon how many openings we'll have to fill through the transfer portal. That number isn't crystal clear yet. If it's only one, I'd say no. If it's two, then maybe but still not sure. If it's three or more, then I would say yes, definitely interested.

In any event, he deserves to be on a list of portal prospects at this point.

O'Hara made a significant jump from his freshman to soph year although some of the counting stats were mostly a function of just playing a lot more minutes.

For a familiar comparable, here are the same stats from Langston Reynolds' three years at Northern Colorado.

You can see that Reynolds made his big jump a year later in his college career. He took a little time to get going at Minnesota and he was inconsistent at times but he definitely became a productive player here.

Tyson committed 6/1
Stephens committed 5/9
Turner committed 4/23
Willis committed 4/14
Reynold committed 4/13
Vaihola committed 4/9
Omot committed 4/2
JCJ committed 4/1

With McDermott retiring at Creighton, any chance Jackson McAndrew enters the transfer portal? Don't know if Niko recruited him at CSU but he would seem to be a great fit in this offense....
Sounds like top assistant Alan Huss will likely take over so a lot of the staff may stay in place. Still possible but probably less likely than if it was an outside hire. Huss was previously a head coach at High Point.

Edit: In fact, his profile says "head coach in waiting".

He played 4 games and missed the rest of the season with a foot injury. After what happened here this season, do you want to risk adding another potential convalescent to the roster? And It's not like he was that great when he did play for Creighton anyway.

Id suspect you can add about a week to that this year with the changes to the portal dates. Also with only 1 window you might see a wave right away and then have it be quiet for a week as teams and players reassess.

Niko/The Gophers have much more leverage than at this time last year, IMO.

I expect to hear similar news for most of the other serially injured guys (excluding JCJ).

I do hope that Vaihola sticks around. He looked like a really good fit for the system and was the best screener. I also wouldn't be heartbroken if he moved on and we could go after someone with more than one year of eligibility.

I'd take him in a heartbeat. Averaged 7.8 as a frosh for a good team and has great length at 6-10 with the ability to stretch the defense- shot the 3 at 35%

Solid bigs seem to be harder to get in the portal than guards/wings so I hope they can keep him.

It'll be interesting to see what their strategy is with Mpoyi. Do they think he can come in and contribute right away (even if it's just 5-10 minutes a game) or do they try to redshirt him?

I have no inside info, I just feel like this kid is going to be on a fast track and will play a lot next year.
Look at what Niko did with Grove. The ceiling of Mpoyi is much higher and his size would be key to the defensive end. He went from 195 pounds to 240 in a year and has a Big Ten body right now. The kid is smart and a quick study who is borderline top 100 at this point after being just a hidden prospect a year prior. If Vaihola returns, along with Grove and then with Mpoyi...that's a pretty solid start at the center position.

McDermott & Creighton brought him to Creighton for this singular purpose. They new McDermott was going to retire, this was McDermott's hand picked guy to replace him.

I think the same thing is going to happen at KU. When Norm Roberts retired, Bill Self brought Jacque Vaughn back to KU. I believe for the single purpose of replacing Self when he leaves and rumor has it Bill is contemplating hard that it is time to step away.

If Vaihola happens to leave id like to get a real defensive post presence. Grove is a solid role player and Mpoyi looks like a big body, would be nice to have a massive shot blocker and rim runner

I think this year is the last year we’ll view Grove as a ‘role player.’ He will explode into another rung next year.

He was outstanding as a freshman.....on a really good Creighton team....
