All Things 2026 Transfer Portal Thread

I would hope Minnesota would be aiming higher than this. Or am I missing something?
Probably considered a depth piece. Would rather have a reserve player from a mid-major than against an NAIA player. Nothing against Gizzi. But from that angle, seems like an upgrade.

100% agree!

As much as I like Bobby Durkin, the sign that we are really a good team will be having the luxury of using him 20-25 minutes off the bench as instant offense. We need a couple of scorers in the 6-4 to 6-7 range to replace Reynolds and Tyson. I think Mpoyi will have an impact at center and split time with Vaihola. Not sure how Grove will fit but the kid is really growing on me. I hope his shooting skills devethem for guys who can compete to start.lop and he gets stronger in the offseason.

Keep: Asuma, Vaihola, Grove, Willis, Durkin and JCJ (6)
Frosh: Mpoyi, Anderson, Tomes (3)
Portal: 4
I like what you are saying but the rules are 15 scholarships. I'd prefer we use them for guys who can compete to start.

Portal opens in 17 days on April 7th....by the 8th of April what percentage of potential DI Big Ten starters will be left to recruit? 10%? Seems it'll be something like that...17 days is a long time to make deals when all but 16 of the teams of the 300 plus teams have roster construction as their focus after today...(okay Crown teams and NIT teams gotta split their focus some too but you get the idea). The majority are focused on the portal right now.
Tyson is an exception...we did good getting him late but that's going to be an outlier you can't count on.
Hope we are aggressive in our pursuits.

Me too. One interesting bit, in addition to the fact that he is just a frosh- is that he scored his 7.8 points in just over 17 minutes per game. I am okay if he is a development guy who is willing to wait.

I would say most of them because it seems to me that relatively few of the players who have entered the portal at this point, or declared the intent to enter, are likely Big Ten caliber starters.

Knowing Smith, I don’t think he would come as a depth piece. And, he’s not more than that.

You will never get 15 guys who will compete to start unless you lie to them about their role. And if you do that you’ll have a terrible atmosphere by December. No one has a roster 15 deep

BS...you are saying everybody is fine with 12 or 13 right? but if you got 15 the world will end? BS.
It's coaching...you layout expectations, you define roles, you get guys to buy in and to be part of something bigger. 3 mascots is silly. Plus, they are all getting paid in today's game.
We just proved 12 is not enough!!! Pitino proved it his entire Gopher run...if he had more guys who could play in each of his season's he'd still be the coach.
Granted you can't have 5 Cade Tyson's, 5 guys who see themselves as the leading scorer, you gotta recruit to defined roles. Sure you hope the last 3 guys never see the floor but like Grove...they gotta have enough ability for development that you can see a day they will contribute and in the case of Grove...pleasantly surprise you...but the last 3 guys should be of that level with some potential to play someday...
Medved is plenty capable of setting expectations and managing 15 guys...raise the bar.
