Don't undersell it: NCHC is the best conference since the split and it's not close and will take at least three or four titles to change hands.

We can win a national championship and have, and we compete in one of the top 3 leagues that has had the most success of them all since the split.

I'm not saying our past is anything great and that we should be considered a "blue blood", but there is nothing this program is missing (other than some far away history) that will hold back a head coach from having success and which requires that head coach to go elsewhere.

Some guys want the top jobs at the top programs, it’s that simple. Pat may not this time but that’s the draw Western does not have.

Western and their fans should absolutely be proud of the program they've built, but to draw a football analogy nobody is putting the Indiana job in the same tier as the Texas job.

And I agree if both WMU and Minnesota had coaching openings, minnesota would likely get more applications, however, would Cignetti leave Indiana for Texas? Probably not. They weren't a fluke, they built a team that made back to back playoffs and won the championship. Money or fame would be the only reason but money in hockey is easier to deal with than in football and regarding fame, I know who the Indiana head coach is and have no idea who coaches or coached Texas.

Yeah that's fair, and honestly that's why fleck left us when he did. He was chasing that fame. I hear we made him a similar $$$ offer as you guys did.

You are confusing recency bias with program history and tradition. They are not the same.

Correct, that's why I have no illusion that Fershweiler is leaving his job.

If Fleck was offered the Alabama job I truly believe we would be looking for a new FB coach. It’s how it works.

Depends where you grew up and what you value. He may not be a Minnetonka kind of guy.
 

If it is going to be Raboin or Barr one would think that would leak by Friday if not be completely wrapped up and announced by then.

Raboin's team still has a chance to make the tournament.

It’s Hockey? Thanks for clearing that up. Maybe Coyle will ask Raboins mother for permission to speak to him first as well…really play up the respect angle.
 

citing lane kiffin (arguably one of all of sports biggest d bags) who coaches an entirely different sport, with entirely different dollars involved, with entirely different approach to recruiting/relationships, made it seem like perhaps you may need a reminder that they are indeed different games.

Not to mention the portal window is not until after the FF and the hiring cycle is completely different. If he's your guy, you give him the respect of letting him finish something he's started, particularly when there is also a much smaller number of schools hiring in any given cycle and when you're the only blue blood doing so.

Placing imaginary handcuffs on the search isn’t helpful and small time thinking as to what is possible is fine if that’s your thing.
 

Not that there couldn't be discussions behind the scenes, but clearly nothing would be said until season is over for him.

That I tend to agree with. To think you can’t talk to him or even have a nod and a wink agreement in place before their season is over is nonsense. If he’s your guy you find out immediately where he stands.

Where did anyone just specifically say announcement? My original post said leaked or announced while naming Barr and Raboin.
 

I'm convinced we're going to make enough of an effort to get Ferschweiler a healthy raise. He'll be missing out on a chance to build a juggernaut but I'll understand why he stays.

It sounds like Raboin is a great recruiter and well respected in MN hockey circles. Outside of Ferschweiler and Carle, I'll be excited about Raboin taking the helm more than any other candidate and I hope he keeps Martin on the staff.

I don’t know anything about Carle’s contract to even know if there would be an opportunity to significantly increase his salary. Plus DU is a top program so not a lot to improve on there either.

With Fresch there might be a lane if he’s interested. We could significantly improve his salary and he would be running one of the premiere programs in the country. I hope Coyle at least takes a serious run at it. If he can’t get it done then move on to plan B.

All these guys have agents. The discussion is with the agent to see if there's interest. Deniability for coach to say he didn't talk to a suiter while season still going on.

Ok, so I think everyone's in agreement. We could at least put out some feelers or have an initial discussion with a coach (or agent) and not announce anything until after his team is eliminated.
 

Oh boy, some things I’ve heard about Coyle’s coaching search are downright concerning.

Brett Larson supposedly one of the finalists, that fact he’s even being considered is asinine as far as I’m concerned. If he is hired might as well just flush the next 5 years down the toilet.

Praying that Raboin is the guy.
 

If Larson is in the mix it's because Barr and Fersch have already said no.
