Gopher Softball 2026

This staff can’t develop players either. From what I saw I didn’t see any improvements from returning players. Five games in and I have already lost interest.

Needs to be in future contracts, opt outs only after the second year.

Watching the Gophers on ESPN+
I would bet most talented high school teams would beat this team on most nights. It’s truly a struggle. I don’t understand how this program has fallen this bad. We won first game against Idaho State and now in a close game against UTEP.
No hard contacts, pitching is at a D2 level, and outfield is extremely slow.
I don’t see many bigten wins. I hope I’m wrong.

If there’s a positive, the team is young besides Schwartz.

My question is if Ritter would ever retire or be forced to leave…who would take the job? In such a tough spot, do we care about the sport (department speaking…)? Would an alum come back and be ready for that? Would a summit league jump? Honestly Omaha and St Thomas both seem like better jobs at this point. Would a successful D2 coach even want to make that jump? Ugh…I miss great softball at the U.

I sure hope we’re not paying our 3rd base coach a lot of money. She just stands there, points, and makes terrible decisions. Atrocious.

Gophers split the day with a 11-4 win over New Mexico State.

4-5 on the season

If there’s any positives we’re extremely young. Freshman Kuhn could be special.

I sure do appreciate those on the softball team that are trying to the extent of their ability.

Coaching staff continues run this program in the ground. Losing to terrible team.

I've seen no games so far in 2026, only read box scores. Do the Gophers have any D1 talent besides maybe Schwartz? What recruiting do the coaches do in off-season, if any?

The Minnesota baseball team is doing better this year than they have performed for the last 5-6 years. Maybe they are a better entertainment product to spend one’s precious time in this life following?

I watched the Grand Canyon game from Thursday - it was rough. Besides miscues defensively, I think we could have been given another 7 innings of at bats and not have scored.

As it stands now, we don't have a win over a team with a winning record. Our first two home conference series are Illinois and Ohio State, and those look like our best opportunities for series victories. Conference wins look hard to come by with how this team is playing right now.

If we don't see a coaching change at the end of the year its safe to assume Coyle doesn't care about the program. This is just terrible softball.

I don’t see anything positive in this team right now. Hitting is lacking, pitching is woefully inadequate and their fielding leaves a lot to be desired. Equally last year's 5 conference wins could be challenging.

I just saw the softballers started their Big Ten season with a big win. That is something to praise.

Gophers fall to 9-16 after a loss to Lindenwood. Bunch of soft contact. No disrespect; but, I feel like I’m watching a JV team.
How can a former pitching coach not develop or understand the pitchers we have are not D1 caliber? This program is doomed.

Not disagreeing, but we also scored zero runs….again. If Schwartz is the best option to win games why hasn’t she pitched or played in every game? This might be the worst loss I’ve seen. Embarrassing.

No offense terrible defense, and so-so pitching. Time to move on. Should be able to find a reasonably competent coach. need to return to ten years ago and need players

It’s been a steady decline since the WCWS in 2019. Ritter was successful in developing talented pitchers before becoming head coach. I think her attention is too divided. Time to move on, especially after back to back losing seasons.

I have long thought that coach named Jamie Trachsel was quite the softball achiever, very accomplished for a northern woman in the southern softball power zone.

I wonder if she will be available to move from the SEC soon? Would she be interested in the top spot here in gopher land?

Since she left the gophers to go to Mississippi I doubt she has any interest in returning, especially considering how far the program has deteriorated since she left.

Gonna be 9-18 now without a single quality win. Wonder how many 18U club teams in the state would run rule them

This team is worse than last year and that team was pathetic. I like Ritter, but I think she’s better when she was just the pitching coach. She hasn’t developed any pitchers since becoming head coach.

At this point they may as well cut the program to help on title 9 or whatever. Malpractice or neglect that she's still the coach
