Grayson Grove progression

Very true, but both are always hurt
Liam was pretty healthy his one year here unless I am mis remembering. Did Payne miss time as a gopher? Either way, comparing two borderline all big ten centers to a back up center on a 3-8 big ten is absurd, it be like trying to say Anthony Peeler was better than Kobe Bryant

He can’t score. Or shoot free throws.
Just reminded me of the 70’s song, “White boy in the NBA!” “He can’t shoot, he can’t …..score!”

But Grove is better than that by far, he can pass and has a good feel for the game.

Much better than Hurt.

Psh I was yelling AP for 3 all day - SWISH - back in the day out in the driveway!

Fox is one of my all time favorites after last year. That being said he also was pushing on 30 by the time he graduated! I would of course take Fox (if healthy) right now, but Grove is absolutely working his tail off and going from a cast off to a legitimate piece of our team this season. I’m torn between him hopefully being out recruited or finding a way to become that player that other teams love to hate. Especially after he starts to feel like he’s been here for about a decade.
If the gophers are going to be a top third big ten team he will have to be out recruited.

The free throws are pretty funny. He gets the ball and just fires it up there. I'm waiting for a dribble, or a spin in the hands, nope, as soon as they bounce it to him, he throws it up.
I don't know why someone doesn't work with him on shooting with a little arc. Those line drive free throws insure a low percentage of makes.

for sure, the physics of it are remarkable when it goes in! I did notice he took a dibble or two on his free throws last game. It didn't work, but at least he's trying new things!

He needs to go Rick Barry. It's a sure thing he'll have better arch and a softer touch on his freethrows shooting granny style. His pride may fight against him, but he would be a better freethrow shooter if he switched to underhand.

He’s no Tony Campbell 🤠

I would be shocked to find out that nobody was working with him on it but this one feels like a mental block of some kind or a case of the yips. Anyone who has dealt with that knows it is frustrating as hell.

I went through it playing pickleball for a stretch last year. The serve in pickleball is easy, have done it thousands of times but went through a period for a couple of months where I could not get the serve in no matter what I tried. Even more frustrating is I would have stretches when I could get it in just fine when not playing a game but as soon as it was a competitive situation I would miss hit it.

I eventually changed my mechanics to something different and now have a serve I can get almost all the time. Not the serve I would like to use but it works. The yips are a real thing and I bet that is what is going on with Grove at the free throw line.

Sounds like off season. He has changed it up the last couple of games, so they are working on it. Grove is a role player that will continue to improve and provide valuable minutes to this program.

Off-season
Keep Crocker Johnson
Improvement Asuma and Shinholser
Get Durkin back to coming off the bench with scoring
Involvement of freshmen
Decisions on injured players
Grove continue to improve.

Liam was a Jr when he was here. Grove is a RS Freshman
Liam Robbins also took a prep year at Sunrise Christian so was comparable to a redshirt Junior by the time he was here.

I would take Robbins over Grove in a heartbeat but I am curious to see what Grove can grow into. I like his touch on his passes and his ability to run the floor.

When you have an actual hoop in your hand, the importance of arc becomes even more obvious. I would always think "sheesh, this hole is SO big! This shouldn't be as hard as I make it seem".

Our high school coach always had a rim to pass around and show us that 3 basketballs would fit in the rim. Always told us there’s no excuse for missing free throws and layups!

I wish I had seen tonight's win against Oregon! Grove dominated the stat sheet. By the numbers, the best game of his short career.
Grove was great tonight....he is developing into a really good player who may never be seen as a star but is the kind of guy all teams need.

Only thing that surprised me a little is that Oregon didn't find a way to send him to the line when they were still in the game and trying to come back. That is his one massive weakness right now and in a game where we had no other post options I'm a little surprised they did not find a way to exploit it.

Tonight when he was at the line, he closed his eyes and took a deep breath. He is sooooo overthinking everything....almost like don''t shoot an airball....don't shoot an airball. I'm assuming that is where the pop-a-shot approach earlier in the season came from.

As he gets more confidence, and less nervous, I'm betting the Ft's will get better. He shot it welll in high school. Love the banked in 3 at the end and the big smile on his face!!!!

Pure speculation as I didn’t see the game and I don’t know anything about Oregon, but failure to hack a Shaq Grayson suggests terrible scouting by the Ducks and that they have thrown in the towel.

The great thing about Niko's offense is that the ball is always moving. Hard to hack a Shaq when the ball isn't in your hands for but a moment. Plus, Grayson was always moving so he was hard to guard. Where Oregon struggled was in rebounding. Somehow we got to rebounds and tip outs that we don't usually get to.
All that to say the Ducks did look uninspired and a bit clueless.

Our ball movement does make it a little tougher to employ a fouling strategy. But yeah, they threw in the towel completely with a couple minutes left in the game which was way earlier then I expected them too.

Only 12 free throw attempts total last night (10 for us and 2 for them). We did a great job of harassing their big guy without fouling him, every time he got it a few guys collapsed on him and made life difficult.

Not to be actually guy, but...actually you can't fit 2 basketballs in a rim. Rims are 18" and balls are 9.5". Were you playing with nerf balls?
