This will get you going!

These two guys were beast where you couldn't bring them down easily. The defensive guys must have been sore all over after a game.

How about that 2003 Gophers backfield with Barber, Maroney, Terry Jackson and Thomas Tapeh. All of them rushed for at least 1000 yards at least once as a Gopher except Tapeh who finished at 906 in 2002. Jackson had 1317 in 2002. Has there ever been a better foursome at RB on the same team?!

I swear that old-school astroturf made really good running backs almost undefendable. The ability to cut and accelerate on that stuff was deadly. Looked like a video game at times.

not lost on me is seeing the various rankings listed next to "Minnesota" in the score graphics of these highlights. I would love to combine some of the strengths of the Mason teams with what came later under Kill and Fleck.
A hypothetical matchup of the 2003 gophers vs the 2019 team would be really fun to watch.

Yes but what really stood out to me in the reel was seeing a Gopher RB finish a long TD run and increase the distance between him and the defense. Hasn't been anyone like that in the M&G since Maroney, and before him Darrell Thompson.

We've had lots of very productive backs since who get run down inside the 10 almost every time. I guess that's why those guys didn't get drafted and Thompson and Maroney were 1st rounders.

I followed the gophers closely back then but not as closely as now (didn't have season tickets) but that video reminded me how special Maroney was.

As good had some of our RB's have been Maroney, Barber and Thompson are in a class of their own.

That 95 yard run by Maroney against Wisconsin is amazing.

That backfield was special.....so much fun to watch them work.

And on a side note....odd watching a highlight video where none of the players are wearing short pants and everyone has knee pads on..... :) (I can't stand the new trend where the pants keep getting shorter and shorter to a ridiculous level in some cases)

I love Barber and Maroney but I think the 2001 Hurricane backfield with Clinton Portis, Willis McGahee, Frank Gore, and Najeh Davenport backfield might take the cake.

I can't think of anyone else. Would be fun to see some of the better RB rooms... I hate to give them credit but would be curious if Wisconsin had some loaded backfields when they were in the midst of their running heyday.

That Miami group might take the cake. a few other good ones:

Alabama 2012: Derrick Henry, Kenyon Drake, TJ Yeldon and Alvin Kamara (before he transferred)

Notre Dame in the late 80's with Jerome Bettis and Rickey Watters

1997 Texas: Rickey Williams and Priest Holmes

2017 Georgia: Nick Chubb, Sony Michael and D'Andre Swift

1982 Georgia: Herschel, Tim Worley, Keith Henderson

1982 SMU Eric Dickerson and Craig James

1979 USC: Marcus Allen, Charles White, Lynn Cain, Ricky Bell

Forgot how much Maroney had that next gear...around the edge or through the middle, when he saw the path, you could see instantly when he hit that next gear.

Darkins could pull away too.

You're really going to hate the DL we picked up from Cal lol

lol...yeah....Smith already does the short short thing as well. I just think it looks so dumb but clearly players like it I guess because more and more of them are doing it.
