What better stats?

Conference games.
Athan 13 td passes 7 ints
Drake 14 td passes 4 ints

A lot of Athens stats were playing against weak non conference opponents or throwing 50 times against Washington when they are down a lot. Both had negative rushing yards.

Am curious if Drake will make a practice squad though.
Cherry pick whatever stats you want that’s fine. I think Drake is better. Athan had better stats. That’s it.

Solid B for a redshirt fresham getting his first action as a starter.

Big off season for him, lots of things to work on heading into his redshirt sophomore year. Has a chance to be a really really good QB if he keeps working and developing.

C. I thought he maybe regressed a little or was flat improvement wise. As stated above needs to improve agility more than anything, heavy feet are not ideal in today’s football quarterbacks.

Not very good on deep balls. Throws on time well, very well actually.

Put up the same td/int line as Brosmer. Slightly worse completion percentage and yardage for Drake. Only three interceptions outside of the Iowa game. Hard to give it less than a B considering his experience level and the offense around him. Forget the mobility stuff, that’s not going to develop. I think for him to take a big step forward we need to find a way to get more vertical in the pass game from time to time.

To points above regarding the long ball/vertical game, Lindsey didn’t have the receiver corps nor offensive line to be successful. It was tried early on and seldom worked. I don’t think Harbaugh was running the extreme West Coast purely from choice.

Considering nothing more than a pure QB grade, I'd give him a "C". He floats a ton of his passes, misses a lot of open reads and his lack of mobility creates a 'Statue of Liberty' persona in the pocket that makes our offense even easier to defend above and beyond what our terrible OC contributes to the problem.

He moves okay for a guy his size once he's at full speed but he seems to have really "heavy" legs that offer zero burst for escapability and buying time. Whenever he does escape the pocket, it always seems to end in a 20-yard throwaway out of bounds.

Factoring in that Lindsey is only a RS freshman, I'd give him a "B" overall but I admittedly don't rate him nearly as high as a majority of others do on this board.

I thought he was better early then kinda faded. Very few redshirt freshman quarterbacks play better than he did particularly with the OL issues. Solid B.

B as a first year starter RS frosh. Probably C’ish on the fine points of being a complete Power 4 QB with room for improvement with experience but a straight up A on “clutch”. I love that attribute.

Also, A on durability, an underrated attribute.

I went with B, but for me that's excellent considering his age, in game (lack of) experience, ball protection, his WR room and the fact we've clearly been shifting to a modern offense and with that their are growing pains as recruiting shifts to a completely different type of player across the board on offense, so it takes time.

So, for me, if he wants an A next year all the things above must improve. Some of those are him personally and others are organizational, but he also needs to process quicker for one. To many times it costs us pre snap, other times it's a split second during the play that costs him from hitting a guy in stride for a big hitter, to an underthrown nothing Burger. A big missed opportunity. This happened a lot. It's also expected for a guy getting his first taste. I'd be lying if I said I wasn't 100% confident he'll have this fixed soon. I think this facet of his game will improve with experience and that should excite everyone as long as........

We land another big WR target.
We protect him by establishing a consistent run game. Just consistent!
He learns to throw it away from time to time, holds it to long quite often.
We stick with the process.

Reshaping a programs identity isn't easy. Look east to the Skunks and you'll be reminded what a turd looks like, a turd that very recently was a pretty delicious meal before some clown from Cincinnati who stunk at OSU somehow got the job and shit the bed. I find myself thinking recently, I should be more grateful for the coach we have. A guy I'd be more than ok sending any of my 5 sons to play for. A guy who quietly realized his archaic offensive philosophy was going to sink his ship no matter how hard he rows, and he swallowed his pride and made the change. We just had maybe the best recruiting class in program history. We were young in all the wrong places this year, and yet, 8 wins. I see quite a bit too be thankful and excited for. Next year should be a good one.

Safe to say more will be expected next year and correctly so. Harbaugh and staff need to tweak the offense to better play to Drake's strengths. Much work is ahead for the O-Line and receivers groups to just block better to give more support to the running game.

If what's needed were to be a novel I'd name it "Great Expectations..."

👎on this post (should be a reaction option, but isn't currently)

I thought a B was warranted, as a lot of learning is being done in his first season. Let's be honest, this team really needs to solidify the O-line situation much more. Drake would have had a much better season if he had stood behind the type of lines Tanner had and the advantages of that type of running game.

For all the statue comments, might be true, but he was only sacked 21 times I think.

The pass protection was not as god awful as people make it out to be. And you don’t need to be Randy Moss to occasionally get a step on a DB. I’m not saying we have the talent to regularly hit home runs, but you still have to attempt it from time to time. It’s not a high risk play in my opinion.

Your rating seems pretty much in line with how most of the board feels actually.

If Drake was a senior his play would be pretty underwhelming but when you factor in his age and experience level he gets a definite bump up.

Nothing is ever guaranteed but he has a chance to be a really good college player as he continues to develop and get better.

Passing wise his stats were very similar to Bo Nix freshman season.

How do you figure this? (obviously talking about the bold part)
  • Max was better at going through his progressions, many times hitting the third or even fourth receiver in the play. Drake would often pick his target too early, throwing into coverage vs seeing the wide open player (often a downfield route). That's all part of gaining experience. (As a comparison, AK picked who he was throwing to before the ball was snapped - no progression during the play at all. If the receiver was covered, he just threw it harder).
  • Max has a much quicker release. Drake will need to develop that if he wants to get to the NFL
