All Things 2025 Minnesota Vikings In-Season Thread

Imagine how you would look with ten (10) kids under 21. Running for your life from Myles Garrett and Max Crosby for three (3) hours seems much easier to me.

"The Rivers family is now made up of seven daughters and three sons, ages 5 to 21. The couple are parents to Andrew, Anna, 4, Clare, 8, Rebecca, 10, Peter, 13, Sarah, 14, Gunner, 15, Grace, 17, Caroline, 18, and Halle, 20."

Jets with a bold move to address their QB issues

Rico has signed with every team…. I am sure of it

The Athletic’s Alec Lewis believes the Vikings will “almost certainly” exercise Jordan Addison’s fifth-year option.

Lewis is just speculating here, but it’s safe to say Addison has earned a contract extension in Minnesota. Picking up his fifth-year option lengthens the runway for Minnesota to negotiate that deal. He will be eligible for an extension in the coming offseason. Lewis also mentioned the Vikings possibly listening to offers for Addison from other teams. While that seems unlikely, it would create cap space for the team while also giving them extra draft capital to work with.

Still, it’s hard to imagine the Vikings moving on from Addison, given how productive he has been thus far. Addison has 2,296 yards and 22 touchdowns through 38 career games. Though his ceiling is ultimately capped by the presence of Justin Jefferson, Addison has established himself as one of the league’s premier deep threats.

A "threat" for sure, in more ways than one.

Pick up the option and then trade him. You can't afford to pay two WR's big $$.

Interesting info from Heavy regarding the demotion of Isiah Rodgers -

Vikings Expected to Cut Ties With $11 Million Starter After Demotion

The Minnesota Vikings appeared to have made a rare find in cornerback Isaiah Rodgers early in his first season with the franchise, but that success now looks like it was merely a mirage.

Kevin Seifert of ESPN on Wednesday, December 10 detailed the recent demotion of Rodgers from starting cornerback to a hybrid role, in which he plays mostly in nickel sets (five defensive backs on the field).

“It has been in the past two games where Rodgers has given way to Jay Ward, who is a cornerback but also mostly a safety in their base defenses,” Seifert reported. “And Rodgers is coming in on the nickel.”

At first, the move was going swimmingly. During a Week 3 contest blowout of the Cincinnati Bengals, Rodgers registered two pass breakups, two forced fumbles, a fumble recovery, an interception and two defensive touchdowns in one of the best games any cornerback has ever played in NFL history.

However, he has defended only one pass since and has not replicated any of those other statistics a single time across the last 10 games.

Rodgers’ lack of dynamic playmaking isn’t even the main reason defensive coordinator Brian Flores has ushered him into a reserve role.

“Rodgers was a big-time free agent pickup for the Vikings last offseason. … They were very excited about his playmaking ability,” Seifert continued. “But as the season wore on, he really struggled making tackles in the open field specifically. His coverage was OK, but the tackling really struggled, and Jay Ward is better at that.”

All that said, Ward isn’t likely the answer Minnesota is seeking at the position for years to come.

“I don’t think Jay Ward projects as a longterm cornerback for this team in future seasons, but you also wonder if Isaiah Rodgers does, either,” Seifert said.

Vikings Projected to Select Elite Cornerback in First Round of 2026 NFL Draft

Mansoor Delane

GettyCornerback Mansoor Delane of the LSU Tigers.

Minnesota profiles as one of the more likely franchises to pursue a cornerback in the first round of the 2026 draft given the team’s deficiency at the position.

Field Yates of ESPN on Wednesday projected in his first mock draft of the season that the Vikings will select Mansoor Delane out of LSU with the No. 11 overall pick.

“He has excellent size for the position (6-foot, 190 pounds) and thrives using force at the catch point to disrupt the ball,” Yates wrote. “Delane is at his best playing off coverage and reading the quarterback, though he is also a willing run defender who could thrive in Brian Flores’ aggressive system. When targeted as the primary coverage player this season, he surrendered the third-lowest completion percentage in the FBS (27.8%).”

Delane is the first cornerback off the board in Yates’ mock, while he projects as the second defensive back overall (Ohio State safety Caleb Downs to the Los Angeles Rams at No. 9).

Yes. Example A of why it's a bad idea.
Depending on what Addison is looking for on his next deal, I'd have no issues moving him for the right return. Drafting a guy like Sarratt in the 2nd Round would do nicely as a replacement.

BUF would seem like a potential suitor considering the WR busts they've drafted in the 1st Round lately.

I say keep him. He's not in a position of total leverage with the Vikings, considering some of his transgressions. The Vikings WILL have at least a little bit of leverage in this case. Also, for those same reasons, his market won't be as robust as some people think.

Not worried about it at all. These things take care of themselves. I trust this FO to either sign him for a palatable deal or move on.

Agreed. I do think it's possible that a team desperate for WR help could offer him $25M/year with the upcoming Cap increases. If the Vikings offer was around $20M/year, I could teeter in either direction on the type of deal.

Pick up the option and then trade him. You can't afford to pay two WR's big $$.

I'll go one step beyond that: if you pay even one WR big $$ before you have a QB in place, you're wasting cap space — and time.

If you're building a team, start in the trenches. Then find a solid QB. After you've accomplished those two tasks, you can focus on the flashy stuff.

A wide receiver is a waste if no one can get him the ball. A QB can't get the WR the ball if the QB is running for his life and/or lying flat on his back.

Twitter/X is on fire today with Rivers action

It's actually happening. Whomever is broadcasting the game should bump Colts-Seahawks to national TV in the afternoon window.

Bleep Off WCCO4 with this Packers-Broncos garbage.

If I was into prop bets, I would lean towards Over for the passing yards (150) for Old Man Rivers, just for the spectacle of it.

Win or lose there's going to be a Hollywood movie about it, right?!? I'm rooting for either epic success or tragedy.

Predictions

Lewis: Cowboys 23, Vikings 17. Do I think the Vikings can win? Absolutely. This is mostly a question of sustainability from McCarthy. Doing it against the Commanders is one thing. Following it up with a consistent showing here would go a long way toward establishing more faith. Dallas’ offense just seems too formidable, even against a Vikings defense that has been quite good of late.

Krawczynski: Vikings 21, Cowboys 20. Am I taking crazy pills? Maybe. But look at those six Cowboys wins. With the Chiefs struggling to the degree they have, the win over the angst-ridden Eagles might be the only one that can qualify as a good one. And the Vikings defense has low-key been playing better and better over the last month. If McCarthy can avoid backbreaking turnovers, they’ll be in business.
