Can we have this? It annoys me.

I'll start

B1G has four teams that beat 6+ bowl teams this year. Ohio State, Indiana, Oregon, and USC. SEC has none.

Texas A&M beat the bottom 7 teams in league and 6 fired their coaches, They lost to only team with winning record Texas.

Missouri at 8-4 has no win over a P4 bowl eligible team yet is ranked 25 in AP poll.

Alabama and Georgia after this weekend are only teams to play 10+ P4 teams.

i think you're forgetting that it just means more and any given Saturday anything can happen down south with those ole ball coaches
 


1. Seems like when everyone can pay players it means just as much across the country.

2. They seem more interested in protecting their winners than the B1G. With more favorable scheduling the B1G could have promoted a fourth league member to top 12 rankings (Iowa, Michigan, or USC).
 




in reality, its that the SEC gets to inbreed and play themselves repeatedly and because they're ranked highly because of recruiting classes (the fact this is part of any metric is laughable, because it is inherently biased to who pays the money, who has the exposure, etc., but it makes up a component of many advanced metrics).
The actual resumes on the field are.... not good. Unless you think beating an SEC team is the gold standard. I will actually be fascinated if FPI wins out and they actually use the advanced metrics, which have the SEC getting 3 teams in (Bama 6, GA 8, TX A&M 10 with Ole Miss at 12 and going to get bounced by an auto bid).

They have 8 teams ranked in the polls, with 5 in the top ten which is comical
Bama's resume looks solid when you don't really think about it. win over GA. Beat Vandy, Tenn, Mizzou. Tough loss to OK and FSU. Wait, what do you mean FSU is 5-7? Well everyone gets a mulligan I guess.
Texas AM will get the bonus of beating ND early. They have first round bounce written all over them depending on the matchup.
Georgia is 11-1 and can avenge their only loss. They seem to be the best of the bunch to me
Ole Miss holds a win over Oklahoma and that's about it (amazing how cake walk their schedule looks now in hindsight with how bad LSU and S Car were)
Oklahoma beat a mediocre Michigan team (who's best win is.... Nebraska?) and Bama in a game Bama outgained them by 200 yards but turned it over 3 times including a pick 6 and a turnover in their red zone
Texas vomited all over themselves losing to Florida and barely beat the dregs of the conference week in and out but think they should get a mulligan because they scheduled OSU (ignoring that OSU is now vastly improved and Texas looks the same as they have all year)
Vandy got hyped all year and we're talking about Pavia winning the Heisman because they beat... Missouri? Tennessee? South Carolina when they were ranked before we realized they actually are terrible?
Tennessee being ranked is my favorite one because they're being ranked because they have good losses (by 3 to GA, by 6 to OK) rather than any good wins. The FBS teams they've beaten are 27-57 combined.


That said. OSU and Indy are undefeated. That's pretty simple. Its not like the Ducks resume looks awesome, but they have solid wins against teams with winning records and haven't "blown" any cupcake games.

Not sure either would be true. Tennessee is likely going to be more depleted by opt outs in the bowl game. Also, it's hard to see momentum going into next season when you know the roster will be quite different from this season.
 





This is the inevitable logic from SEC schools, fans, and media. The team in sixth place in the conference should be part of a 12 team tournament to crown a national champion:


Maybe we're overlooking Michigan and USC!
 

The narrative that Texas should never schedule a marque non-conference match-up like tOSU because it hurt them. It's actually boosting them. The loss to Florida is hurting them. Playing only 9 P4 teams is also likely hurting them.

CFP rankings reflecting that W/L record is most important so I bet there will be other teams working to replace tough non-conf games with cupcakes in order to pad win total and avoid a situation like the one Texas is in where they are going to miss the CFP mostly because of the Ohio State loss in week 1. If there is no reward for tough non-conf games it is going to be tough to motivate teams to schedule them.

Yes and no. It would be interesting to see how it would have shaken out between Texas and Oklahoma if Texas had a win in place of the game against Ohio State. Texas would have the bad loss against Florida but would also have the same record and a head to head win against Oklahoma.

They're missing it because they lost to a bad Florida team. If they don't, they're easily in.

SEC is going to 9 games in 2026 and they already had Florida State on the schedule, so they wanted an easier game.

I do enjoy that Texas acts like if they just hadn't scheduled OSU it would all be fine. Despite they still have a terrible loss to Florida and got beat by 25 by GA. would they probably be in? yeah. do i feel super confident they're better than BYU, Miami, Utah, etc. that's in that band? Absolutely not

I have zero doubt you're going to see the SEC desire to go to an exclusive G5 or lesser OOC schedule aside from the rivalry games that some want to maintain

Didn't realize they were going to a 9 game conference schedule next year. Makes sense then if they already had the 1 power 4 game on the schedule.

It’s all fallacious marketing by them/ESPN, repeat a lie, often enough and long enough, and it will be eventually be accepted as true.

I wish there was a cap on the number of teams from one conference that could get in. Had Texas beat Florida the SEC would be demanding half the playoff field.

The graphic that GophersInIowa posted captures it perfectly. They get so many teams in the preseason rankings that their teams get credit for playing ranked teams which then ensures that the conference keeps a ton of teams in the rankings whether they deserve it or not.

Them going to 9 is only going to magnify the noise that them playing 9 +1 is better than the B1G playing 9+1 for power opponents.

Georgia is playing 11 P4 teams next year in Louisville and GT.

I just don’t get how they (Texas) say they’re being slighted for playing a tough schedule. They’re the only 9-3 team being discussed. They’re in the mix with a loss to Florida
 


I can’t wait for them to move to 9 conference games and see them basically end up equivalent every year to the Big Ten. This year if each of them played an extra game a lot of those better teams that played weak schedules like TAM or Ole Miss would likely have lost another game, 3 or 4 free wins in a season including one in week 13 is just too much.

Gotta think it is mostly because of Oklahoma being in and them being out.

Oklahoma's best wins are Alabama and Michigan and they don't have any bad loses.
Texas has better wins in theory - A&M, Vandy and head to head against Oklahoma but has the bad loss to Florida. Their other two loses are Georgia and Ohio State.

If Texas and Oklahoma had the same record with Texas holding the head to head advantage but also having the bad loss it would have been really interesting to see how things would have shaken out then.....although we all know it probably would have just been 6 teams from the SEC making the playoff under that scenario.

The bottom line is that no matter how many teams you put in the playoff or how you set it up, someone (probably from the SEC) is going to feel like they got screwed.
