2025-26 College Football Coach Fired/Hired Thread

Kind of surprised Sparty wanted to take on Fitzgerald’s baggage, given their experiences with Mel Tucker and his sexual harassment allegations, and the sexual assault conviction of Dr Larry Nassar. Fitz was found to be not directly responsible for the hazing at Northwestern, but he did acknowledge that it occurred in his program. I guess the Michigan State board of regents has a higher risk tolerance than most schools.
I had the same thought.

MSU - Larry Nassar
PSU - Jerry Sandusky
tOSU - Richard Strauss
Mich - Robert Anderson

Seems to be a pattern here…..

Joe Paterno was unavailable.

LSU hires Lane Kiffin away from Ole Miss

Ole Miss coach Lane Kiffin is leaving the Rebels for LSU, in a stunning and unprecedented case of a college football coach taking another job while his current team is in contention to win a national title.

Was it ole miss pressing him to make a decision at this stage?? If so, seems dumb or at the very least lacking self awareness. They are on the best run the school has had and should know they aren’t the prettiest girl at this dance.

Wow. You trying to steal away some guy's "King Of Bad Takes" title?

The MSU athletic department is terrible. Izzo is holding that entire operation together by himself.

Pat Fitzgerald would have been a great hire 10 years ago. At this point he’s a guy who went 3-9 or worse in 3 of his last 4 seasons at NW. Very pleased to have him back in the BIG

I guess hazing you don’t know about is better that sexually harassing someone…

Yeah, this seems like a really weak hire.

Got my ass. Apologies for the absurd position that they should let the coach that got them to the playoff coach in the playoff. Currently hitting my head with a hammer to get better takes!

He has a slightly over .500 record and his program went off a cliff once Mike Hankwitz retired.
Who knows how he adapts to the new world of CFB but I would take Northwestern's results during his time there over anything we've had since 1967. The assumption is he'll have more resources at EL than he had in Evanston.

Every school has more resources and every school says they’re going to give more resources to their coach.

Seems like a lot of cope, which I get— if the gophers ever make the playoffs I’m sure the head coach at the moment would almost certainly be offered better positions at universities with much better support in place and that would suck dog ass. I would however much prefer having the better chance of winning for the remainder of that year. I

But, I think in this case I value the program winning (in particular a championship) more so than ego ouchy which seems to be driving your takes.

We're not comparing every school. We're comparing MSU and NW.
I understand. I’m just saying that every school saying they are keeping their coach or hiring a new coach says it they are investing more.
