POST GAME THREAD!!! Gophers Beat Badgers for 4th Time in 5 Years!!!

The lack of any sense of urgency when down 2 scores in the 4th quarter was baffling. They wasted a ton of time gaining very few yards at a time when you would at least think they would have been trying to move pretty quickly.
I think we would not quite do that down 2 scores.

But honestly it felt a lot like our offensive play calling at times where the individual play calls just didn't seem to fit the situation, and maybe didn't even fit the game as far as what was working for them / own successful plays.

It made it VERY EASY on our defense to just let them dink and dunk and burn the clock like they were ahead ...

I think the defense's response was: "LOL ok ... uh, you do that ..."

That drive that started with about 7 minutes left was baffling (your word, and it was the perfect word). I bet if you looked at one of those in game win probability models, our chance of winning was increasing even as they were getting first downs. But even before that, in a game where quick strikes were not going to come easily, Wisconsin was still using 20 to 30 seconds off the play clock when the game clock was running. I don't get what Fickell was thinking pretty much the whole fourth quarter.

I bet he was thinking a pass past 10-15 yards gets picked off again with the DBs playing back, but yes, that slow drive was a gift.

I'm up in 204, far enough forward from the dedicated opposing fan section where I'm not surrounded but still in an area where there are a lot of mercenary ticket sellers and usually opposing fans around me. Had three guys with Badger gear in the seats in front of me. We had some good banter during the game and they acted how I'd hope our fans would behave if we were in their house. Left gracefully with five minutes left in the game and were begrudgingly congratulatory.

Fast forward to the line leading to the S108 buses, two douchebags in badger gear aggressively pushing past everyone to try to get to the front of the line, including shouldering past a good number of elderly folk. Wisdom gained from past mistakes and the presence of my kids stopped me from opening my mouth, but holy shit did I want to commit violence. What the fuck is wrong with some people?

Some of the Wisconsin fans do the bad kind of (lets drink to not feel feelings) drinking, I saw a fight once at a Gopher's and Badgers game ... between Wisconsin fans ...

Having said that one year a few years ago a dude showed up a row below me in a full red striped suit and IIRC top hat. It looked GOOD ... for being badger gear.

As it became clear we were going to win folks saw him as they were going up and down the isle and the they if they could take photos with him. He put on his hat for every one and put up a pouty face. Good fan / man.

I was going to complain if they didn’t

I know wisconsin is a 4 win team and beating them has become routine, but if you have a chance to party with the Axe in the snow on the field you take it

We need young people having memorable Gopher moments for the future of the program. Plus it’s just fun.
And making snow angels!

In my experience Wisconsin fans who grew up in Wisconsin are great and Wisconsin fans who grew up in Minnesota are absolute idiots

Opposite of Iowa. Iowa fans from Mn are good. Iowa fans from Iowa are morons

I mean, would have been a unforgettable memory for them..."Remember after that win against the Badgers when Dad threw those two drunk fans off the bus?"

Too much 1-0 and this and all that. Some games mean more — don’t pretend they don’t.
They really don't, when you're actually between the lines, that's how mediocre coaches like Mason approach it. Get up one time for Ohio State, lose to Ohio and Indiana in the same year. Beat Michigan choke it away to Wisconsin the next week because you were too scared to give Maroney the ball on fourth down. Choke a game away against Sparty because you let one loss snowball into two. Could go on and on.

In weather like yesterday's, you expect turnovers. The WI O turned it over 3 times; Gophers O didn't turn it over even once. That is an unappreciated side of young Drake's game, I think. He doesn't deliver many stupid passes. He doesn't set the team back, as some QB of his age and experience do. And he's faced defenses all year that were expecting the pass, because of how unimpressive our run game has been. I'm looking forward to an offense with a better run game (OL!) next year, one that puts more pressure on safeties to come up ... and that gives Drake more realistic opportunities to take deeper shots.
They need to figure out RT, but I will say the ground game got better when they finally switched out Marshall for Tony Nelson
