He is a dipshit, and yet some people here take the same position he does with regards to conference affiliation.Finebaum.....who was subsequently saying last week that Indiana has beaten nobody (won AT Oregon) and barely got by Penn State.....as proof for why they are too highly ranked. In the next breath.....defending Texas's OT wins against Kentucky and Miss State because 'who cares....they won'.
He's a dipshit who also thought the three loss Alabama team (that got smished by a 7-5 Michigan in their bowl game) deserved to be in the playoffs last year. He shouldn't have a platform with how many bad takes he gives.
Fact is that the expansion to a 12 team playoffs was supposed to be so that all P5 conferences and the best G5 were represented. Not so these dopey SEC lapdogs could argue over why a three loss SEC team should be included.
There really is no point of them being in the FBS at all.I mean, I get that argument, but shouldn't they split into another division entirely then? What's the point of them being in the FBS then?
Why is their revenue relevant to this discussion? This is about playing football. There really is no point of them being in the FBS at all.
When you look at their revenue, they absolutely are not in the same division as the P4.
Exactly. Which the Group of 5 doesn’t do nearly well enough to get into a playoff that includes the best teams in the B1G and SEC.Why is their revenue relevant to this discussion? This is about playing football.
Then why bring up revenue at all unless you're just trolling, which you appear to be at this point.Exactly. Which the Group of 5 doesn’t do nearly well enough to get into a playoff that includes the best teams in the B1G and SEC.
You get to choose who makes up the 12 team CFP field as of today. No restrictions on what conference the teams play in. No mandated bids to any conference Champions or any conferences for that matter. Who you got for your field?Ohio State very easily destroyed the field last year in the CFP. They finished fourth place in the B1G.
Sorry, but if you think Tulane or James Madison or some other mediocre team that wouldn’t even be bowl eligible if they played a B1G or SEC belongs in the CFP, your opinion just can’t be taken seriously.
The real question is whether any Big 12 or ACC teams belong in ten CFP. That we may be able to have a serious discussion about.
Does Texas A&M have to play at Western Kentucky? In the round of 16?Since my whole position is that all conference champions get auto bids, my field would be (I'm speculating the conference champions here). Because the Pac 12 only consists of two teams until the next reorg, they don't get an auto bid.
Ohio State - B1G
Georgia - SEC
Texas Tech - Big 12
Virginia - ACC
North Texas - American
James Madison - Sun Belt
Western Kentucky - CUSA
Western Michigan - MAC
San Diego State - MWC
So that gives us nine. My at large would be:
Indiana, Oregon, A&M.
Now I personally hate byes, and I think there should be minimum of 16 teams, thus eliminating byes.
So the next four would be:
Ole Miss, Oklahoma, ND, and BYU.
Corrected. I missed A&M.
No. It wouldn't be like the NFL where conference champions get home games or a higher seed automatically. The higher seed would always play at home in my system.Does Texas A&M have to play at Western Kentucky? In the round of 16?

Hey, I resemble that remark! He is a dipshit, and yet some people here take the same position he does with regards to conference affiliation.

Goldmember doesn't think anyone outside the B1G and SEC should be included. Never mind that in the last 15 years, the ACC has had as many champions as the B1G. And Texas Tech, BYU and Utah are in the top 12 right now.You get to choose who makes up the 12 team CFP field as of today. No restrictions on what conference the teams play in. No mandated bids to any conference Champions or any conferences for that matter. Who you got for your field?
Then, I would like to know if you think your field would be good or bad for the long term growth of interest in the sport?
Goldmember, you haven't replied. Why not? Who you got for your 12 team playoff, no restrictions as I mentioned above. Then, would your field be good or bad for the long term growth of interest in the sport?
You seem to pounce when anyone dares to suggest the tourney be more inclusive. Who's your 12 teams?
Why even throw out a 'bread crumb bid' for the G5/6 if you are going to exclude them from playing the P4 during the regular season? Just curious. Glad you think they should get the one bid nonetheless. One is better than none.Next year PAC 12 is back with 8 teams. I wish the Group of 5/6 would stop playing regular season vs the P4 and set up a system that qualifies 1 team to a college football playoff.
We've discussed a fair amount here about A&M and Texas Tech spending a ton on football. But I could absolutely see a G5 team in Texas - think UNT, Texas State, UTSA, Rice (well, maybe not Rice - they have money, but super high academic standards) spending a ridiculous amount to build a super team. It's basically what SMU did back in the day.It may be a coincidence, but I think there is a decent chance the boosters, fans, administration, and...Billionaires were like "We actually have a chance to make this playoff now that the Blue Bloods are gone. Let's invest."
100% agree. This is my personal anecdotal experience including two other Gophers sports I mention a bit as well. I bet you can extrapolate this experience out big time to a huge amount of fans out there:Goldmember doesn't think anyone outside the B1G and SEC should be included. Never mind that in the last 15 years, the ACC has had as many champions as the B1G. And Texas Tech, BYU and Utah are in the top 12 right now.
I can't think of anything more boring than just having the B1G and SEC in the playoffs, and it would absolutely kill interest in the game.
I can get behind a 24 team playoff with auto bids. Why even throw out a 'bread crumb bid' for the G5/6 if you are going to exclude them from playing the P4 during the regular season? Just curious. Glad you think they should get the one bid nonetheless. One is better than none.
I think all the conference Champions should receive a bid. P4's Texas Tech is my example/anecdote of why:
I think Oklahoma (Blue Blood) and Texas (Blue Blood) leaving the Big 12 put a little jump in Texas Techs fans, administration, boosters, and...Billionaires. Texas Tech NEVER won the Big 12 when Oklahoma and Texas were members. ZERO titles since the league was formed in 1996. They did tie for 1st in the South Division in 2008 with Oklahoma and Texas. Oklahoma went to and won the Big 12 Championship game.
Yet, here they are. Pretty good chance they win the Big 12 (For the 1st time in history!) and get a berth to the College Football playoff.
It may be a coincidence, but I think there is a decent chance the boosters, fans, administration, and...Billionaires were like "We actually have a chance to make this playoff now that the Blue Bloods are gone. Let's invest."
Point being, isn't there a chance the G5/6 teams, at least some of them, decide to really invest and go for it if they know they get in the tournament by winning their conference, like Texas Tech? If ALL of the G5/6 schools are competing for 1 'bread crumb bid', why would their fans, boosters, etc bother wasting their money. Odds are almost 100% you'll be wasting your investment and that it won't result in a playoff bid in this current environment.
I would be interested in reading it.***Bonus comment: I have an idea on how to salvage college football. Its a ridiculous take but I think it would work. Maybe I'll post it in the next few days even though it will probably just get absolutely savaged...
That's essentially what gatekeeping the G5 teams is doing. What are they playing for?Let's just make all of the games be just for fun ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
