Gopher Hockey Season Thread 25-26

Are we back after that sweep?! 〽️
We certainly showed improvement in all phases of the game over the course of both games, much to the chagrin of Bonin who magically disappears at the first sign of any Gopher positivity.

Solid weekend from the Gophers and hopefully they continue to build on it.

Any win against a shitty team hurts the slim chances of firing him and leans more into needing him to retire.

So when the Gophers win against a team they should, you still complain. If they would have lost, you would have complained. Got it ray of sunshine.
I have an aunt like this. Miserable f'ing human being. Bitches when her ice cream is cold, and then bitches when it melts. Perpetual victim. I can't believe my mom and her came from the same litter. Grandma must have gotten kicked by a horse when she was in the womb.

I'll say this...you're consistent. Nauseating, but consistent.

I'm sorry your weekend was ruined.

Watching wins is fun but I want a title and the 23 loss took a lot out of me after also attending in 14 for that shit show as well. This year for the first time in like six years there is no title hope and that is annoying.

I will agree with you on that - '23 was a kick in the nuts. 180 seconds away. I can't remember if he called a timeout or not. But he needed to get the team dialed in for what was going to be a frenzied push at the end. A couple of clears of the zone and that is a likely a different outcome. They turtled, got shelled, and it backfired. Then to start OT not having your top D pair on the ice - mind boggling.

Of course it burns in all of us. But for crying out loud, I don't need to be reminded of how much it sucked. It happened. It was awful. And it will be three years ago this spring. Can we please not relive it everyday?

I relive it about every 500 days, so I won't bring it up again until at least mid-2027, or unless I get kicked in the nuts.😁

I relive it every time I step into Mariucci and see that stupid runner up banner (all of which should be sent to the basement), every time I see a picture from the Tampa trip, every time you see one of these guys in an NHL highlight.

Looking back, the roster he had last year was actually more impressive than we thought (which says a lot) and his pathetic end to last season through the last handful of months to the predictable first round exit might be even more embarrassing.

Until the Gophers hang another banner that matters, it's more frustration than enjoyment.

part of why I go every year as each year is still a lot of fun, even if it's painful.

on the roster last year, yeah it was part of why I stayed high on them until the end as the talent was absolutely title caliber talent, but they just as a team would have such large portions of the group disappear and had nowhere the margin for error as the 22-23 team who you always felt would find a way if down. They too had some clunkers for chunks of games (shit they were losing vs Canisius halfway through the first postseason game). Last year's group got real tight after that first ND game (the xG for that series is insane to have lost the series when you won the xG 10.1-5) and then the time off, bad officiating (and that's putting it lightly), and some puck luck was too much against a team that they were way closer too in talent than that prior group.

But those are the breaks and you also make your own luck too. i'm intrigued to see where this year ends up. There happily are no real PWR "tanks" on the schedule so if they manage to pull off the games this weekend, there's still a chance the ship can be righted. Going to be a dogfight to get there but hey we'll see. Ain't over til it's over and I feel at least a little better knowing outside of playing us, our opponents are 31-15-3

Bummer about the tough schedule but it doesn't change the fact the team isn't good
yeah they don't seem to be, but hey maybe they'll continue to get better and the early season losses at least don't completely crater you like they would if who they'd played was closer to .500.
really has to be a sweep this weekend or the above doesn't matter, though LIU is probably a little better than their record given they're 0-3 in OT and also played BU close to start the year.

If specials teams are gonna be this bad Steve Miller has to go. He was supposed to be a special teams savant and they suck. This is not the first year they have sucked, it’s been a common occurrence.

Are you seriously thinking that hard about it? They all have to go.

I have never seen a player pretend to tube hurt only to dive at a guys legs when the puck came back by them. Such a dirty play.

Fuck Motzko for making it about him and taking a retirement lap

Where are the three idiots that show up after the Gopher beat little sisters of the poor and think I don't know a poisoned program when I see one?

That loss is right up there with the Holy Cross loss. This team is dead
