Wild that a non top 25 team could make the playoffs. FWIW, I’m a fan of conference champs being rewarded, but there will be A LOT of noise when Memphis gets in over a SEC school.

I would simply get a formula (like the BCS).
Half an aggregation of computer polls half the committee rankings.

Any conference champ in the top 25 gets and auto bid
Any conference champ not in the top 25 doesn’t…and converts to another at large.
Seems pretty simple

Not after Iowa does first then we do
We could be catching them at a good time. The game with Iowa should be tight and physical. We'll be coming off a bye and it will be their 5th game in a row. How injured they are will matter. It will help them that it's a home game.

They follow the game with us going straight into rivalry games with USC and Washington with no break. Seven games straight. Three of their next four games with ranked CFP opponents and us. Could they be looking ahead when we play them?

The game with them is our Super Bowl for the year. We won't play a better team the rest of the way including our bowl. Maybe we can keep it close? If Oregon wins out and makes the CFP, they will have earned it.

Don't like auto bids or byes. Just take the top 12 ranked teams. Higher ranked team gets home game first two rounds.

Auto bids have to be part of it. The P4 have to have auto bids to reward actually winning the right games and your conference. Still think 24 with auto bids and possible play-in games is the way to go.

I think an 8 team playoff would be plenty. This isn't basketball. No 12, 16, or 24 seed is making a run for the title. But I understand its about the mighty $$ and making more meaningful games for ESPN to profit from.

There is a bit more to it than that. It generates a LOT of excitement and anticipation on a lot of campuses and provides material for a lot of daydreaming as it pertains to David/Goliath matchups. Truly huge upsets early are (would be) rare but they are in basketball too.

Yes and no, the basketball tournament is still about making the field for many teams. I'd prefer to make the playoff in some capacity than making a bowl game.

There are ranked teams that with the right seed and match-up can make a run. I'm not saying next year, but if the data supports expansion it should be looked at. Maybe 16 is the next step.

Looking at the rankings and the teams all with 2 or fewer losses, there are a ton of important games remaining. Luck of the draw in scheduling is a huge factor and that also lends to more teams should get it IMO.

Kelly ford is interedting

He has some graphic that shows teams that win games they shouldn’t win and the gophers are like number 2 in the country.

Whereas gophers fans are mad about almost losing games they should win. Ford says the opposite

I looked at his rankings. He totally loses me as soon as you see Illinois. They've lost 3 and i get that they're all 3 to good teams but they were all blowouts. They lost to Indiana by 53.
It’s very algorithmic
And he puts a premium on SOS
But the SOS metric is his own and basically his algorithm confirms his algorithm

Everyone hates RPI but RPI is probably the best metric if you care about the actual Wins and Losses more than how it felt or looked
