All Things P.J. Fleck Rumor Mill Thread - Listed as Candidate for Other Jobs

We are in a completely new era of college football. Some teams that were good for decades, like Wisconsin, are struggling due to an inability to adjust to the new way. Others like Miami and Texas Tech who were uneven at best over the last 20 years are now surging behind their NIL.

Arkansas with their NIL money, could have a very high ceiling.

Clearly made a big investment on the basketball program already. We'll see how bad they want to be good in football. But the money is there.
Arkansas doesn’t have any NIl money
That’s why they suck ass?

Lol

And some Arkansas fans think the Gophers offered their receiver that ended up at OU $600,000 last year, and that he accepted less from OU to be closer to home. Very few people know actual NIL numbers, and every fan thinks other schools have more

The reason Cal left Kentucky to go there was their NIL commitment.

The money is there. It's just a matter of how much do those guys want a good football program.

The rumors are Drakes grandpa paying, not Jones or Tyson. I will add I don’t think PJ will leave for Arkansas.
It would be better for Drake if Grandpa spent some NIL on the Gophers for a couple 5* OL and a couple 5* WRs. He’s a Pro Style QB and I don’t see Arkansas going there.

They aren’t going to go big
They don’t have any money

Arkansas is the UCLA if the southwest conference

Sounds good doesn’t work
Possibly true. Nobody knows for sure. But, PJ isn't leaving for Arkansas unless the #'s are huge and nobody is going to offer PJ huge dollars.

I'm curious what you would consider huge dollars? PJ is on $7M at Minnesota, 12th highest salary in the conference. Pittman - with no FBS HC experience - was paid $6.8M, good for 14th in the SEC and only ahead of Mississippi State and Vandy (who will be providing a raise soon). Arkansas will have to pay $8M+ to hire anyone with experience simply to make a competitive offer.

One way or the other, I think PJ will be making $8M+ next season.

Yes, this has extension and raise written all over it.

Wouldn’t mind having Sam Pittman on staff. He recruited Frank Ragnow to Arkansas and is a really solid OL recruiter/coach.
He was at the OL coach at Northern Illinois while PJ Fleck was a player there.

Maybe PJ can hire him as the new OL coach.

The broader point I'm making is that I'm not sure PJ and/or his agent need the Arkansas job to justify that. $8-8.5M is the going rate for power conference FBS. If he finishes in the top half of the B1G again, while being the second longest tenured HC, and without any off-field BS, he should be paid like a top half of the conference coach.

Great point. Had forgotten he was making that much here. When I say huge, thinking Cignetti, Riley, Sark #'s. Think it would take that much for him to leave and I dont see anyone offering PJ that much. We'll see. Been wrong before, but just doesn't seem like a place for him. SEC is a graveyard for coaches.

To make that type of money (sans Sark), Fleck would need to have a stretch of very good seasons here.

I totally agree with that. If he is between say 7th and 11th that is very fair.

How much of it was Bielema? If he had stayed at WI it's probably a 2 horse race between us and them, with Arkansas not knowing much about a 3* recruit from the Twin Cities.

That being said, he did generate some excitement there for a while. But not sure one goes from head coach in the SEC to offensive line coach at MN. Offensive line coach at 'bama under Saban? Sure.

Im confused...I thought PJ was a mediocre coach why would Arkansas pay for him? Oh right we won tbis week so now every team will want him!

The fact that people fall for tbis stuff every year is awesome. Nothing beat when GHolers truly thought he might leave for UCLA :ROFLMAO:

It does not seem like the fans would be happy with Fleck. Most seem to want Petrino. The consensus seems to be that Fleck being a target is being leaked by his agent to get another raise or by the Lindsey family. I don't see it happening.

Doesn’t really matter if they want him or not, that’s not a very good job.
In the SEC the only jobs it’s clearly better than are Mississippi state and Kentucky
Pre NIL it was better than Vanderbilt
It’s probably on par with South Carolina

Nicole Auerbach had an article that said it was a worse job than Virginia tech.

So all the hand wringing over Arkansas stealing Drake from us might be Drake taking PJ with him?
Maybe that was their master plan all along.....put Drake at Minnesota, have him spend a couple years there developing and then BAM....he moves to Arkansas and takes his head coach with him.....

And the Lindsey family is in on it too.
