What is evident to me is that the we have subpar assistant coaches. I know we won the game, but Purdue pushed our stool in for most of the game. We have talent but I don’t think our players are getting coached up and our schemes are pedestrian. I think the moment is too big for Danny Collins and Harbaugh is just bad.

I think Harbaugh has been adequate (not great) but agree that DC may not be the guy. Unless our players really are that bad. Heard a stat that we've missed 58 tackles the last 4 games. Is that coaching or the players?

I do think it wouldn't hurt to try a new o-line coach.

30 yards rushing is a real head scratcher - I’ve gotta look at the film and break that down before Nebby game.

If we can't run the ball the next 2 games, we will easily lose both. To have a decent season, we can do no worse than a split.

My thoughts - We've had a lot of turnover the last few years on the defensive side of the staff. Add to that the inexperience in the backfield and we were due for a lapse. I think Collins will be okay with some more experience, I think what's hurting us is the that we've had to backfill a number of coaching spots in a couple year period to make up for promotions and we're seeing the repercussions of that. If we can maintain some stability for a year or two it'll level out.

Definitely need to explore some options sooner than later if the oline repeats last night. Purdue is not a world beater on defense.

Both are coordinators are glorified analysts. Our OC can’t run the ball and our DC has nothing going on.

The OL has generally been solid until this season… I’m not willing to say we should fire guys for 6 games…

Purdue offense has put up points this year so that’s no surprise.

I expected an off year anyhow, team has things to work on but that’s not always the coaches.

One thing i've noticed, the O-line obviously is bad at run blocking, no doubt about it, however the run scheme that we have is really uninspiring as well. No misdirection, no guessing, if we're running you know immediately where that runner is headed.

The coaches recruit the players, choose which ones to play, put the schemes in place for them to play with and then coach the game. They are the leaders of the team and just like any leader, whether it be business or anywhere else they are ultimately fully responsible.

This. I think much of the run game issue is scheme. I'm not sure if they're limited by the formations that they want to run through Lindsey or what, but the straight ahead vanilla blocking, often just 5 O-Lineman (maybe a TE) into a 7-8 man front and with no lead blocking, just isn't working.

I think it is a chicken and the egg thing.

OL doesn’t do well generally, so do you give them more complex / more variety of plays… to miss their block on?

You can teach kids in middle school who to block if they can count to five they can figure that out. Schemes aren’t just blocking schemes in the running game there also whether you’re in shotgun, pistol or under center as well as where and how you are getting the running back the ball and where they are supposed to go.

I'd like to see us do more quick hitting runs. We can't hold our blocks so the slow, zone blocking, pick your hole thing, doesn't seem to work.
