2025-26 College Football Coach Fired/Hired Thread

Penn St just had their best season in 20 years and now they want to fire the coach? That’s funny.

Firing a coach for one bad loss is probably not smart. And I'm not a huge Franklin fan.
It’s the sequence of how they lost the Oregon OT game with a bad play call, which would’ve put them in the drivers seat for a great playoff seed, then being absolute trash against a really bad (aside from Iamaleva) lame duck UCLA team.

I do think there’s evidence over 10+ years that Franklin hasn’t been able to get over that big game hump. So if they want 14 wins and a championship, they may have to “settle” for 10-12 wins. Their fans have to be a bit careful they don’t get into a Nebraska spiral but I don’t think it’s similar, as PSU is not switching conferences, they’re in a more dense recruiting area etc.

He seems to keep losing coordinators to other schools or scapegoating them. Can only do that so long. I think he runs a good program but isn't a great X's and O's guy to get them to the championship level.

He and Fleck seem to be very similar in their ceiling and it probably depends on the school they are at for most success. (Could be said about many coaches)

Joe Paterno winning percentage after joining the B1G - 63.76%
James Franklin winning percentage in the B1G - 64.65%
Was Paterno 6-21 against top 20 teams? Paterno should have won the Natty the year Nebraska was voted 1. No playoff then. Paterno won a shit ton of big games. Franklin has lost a shit ton of big games.

After 2000 Paterno also had 4 seasons there they won 5 games or fewer. Not to mention the scandal.

He was 9-20 against top 10 teams after joining the B1G. He was 3-13 against top 10 teams over his final 12 years.

He was 10-30 against top 20 teams over his final 12 years.

He has some goodwill, but he's done for sure after the year...looks like he needs a reboot or retirement, lost the passion of " I'm a Man! I'm 40!"
In his defense, hard to have the passion of 40 year old, when you’re 58. Father Time is still undefeated😎

Realistically speaking, this is not great news. Wasn’t it Pittman and his staff that passed on Drake?
Next Ark coach falling on his hands and knees and offering $$$ should strike fear in our hearts.

May loyalty (to the Gophers) win out
And the world could end tomorrow🤷‍♂️

Some of you guys need to 🌰 up some time and stop 🐓 Littleing it, for Pete’s Sake.

You can only control the controllables; the older I get, the smaller that list is.

As opposed to controlling the uncontrollables...?

You, I or the aforementioned posters have no control over who Drake Lindsay will play for in the future (unless one of you three plan on donating copious amounts of coin for his NIL), savvy?

So worrying about something you have zero influence over, ergo control, accomplishes what?

Please be specific, I’m hear to learn😎

Going to be interesting if Indiana will be able to hold onto cignetti
Would be ... I guess ... a matter of if he believes a program like Indiana can ever win a natty, in the current cabal of blue blood oligopoly that is college football.

If not, that would be the reason to go to, say, Penn State.
