ABC suspends Jimmy Kimmel’s late-night show indefinitely over his remarks about Charlie Kirk’s death

I have not found him funny in years, except a few skits.
Last night was the very first time I've ever watched Kimmel's show. It will also probably be the last time since I haven't watched network TV including local news since NYPD Blue went off the air.
Your description is hilarious
Thank you!
but it seems you want to put it in the same category as Martin Luther King , JFK and Abraham Lincolns speeches.
Please feel free to map out exactly how I compared Kimmel to those great Americans in my comments. Or do you need to lie and use false analogies in an effort to give your own post some hyperbolic credibility? I said nothing even remotely close to what you are inferring here.
Just amazing for the whole world. Everything is now solved.
More than 6 million people tuned it last night out of curiosity and that # doesn't take into account that 25% of all American viewers were denied their rights to choose by political movements within our very own government and corporate conspirators.

The application of our 1st Amendment rights should NOT be a "selective" process controlled by whatever political platform is currently in power, whether it's Trump's effort to cancel his critics in the media or Oatmeal's efforts to get Trump tossed from Twitter.

This country is in the process of enduring 8+ years of the most corrupt and incompetent leadership in United States history. And neither side has any interest in accepting an ounce of accountability for their direct roles in dividing this country.

Although he's much farther to the Left than I ever will be, Kimmel was pure gold last night. I enjoyed his comedy every bit as much as I do when I'm watching a Jeff Dunham comedy special who happens to lean farther Right than I do. Is it still legal to feel this way in the US?

Short of a complete and utter revolt by Moderate voters in our country that account for 60% of our population, I see no end to our downward spiral as a once proud and most respected nation. We've become a punchline for the rest of the world.

Abe Lincoln borrowed the premise of his famous quote pertaining to slavery from the Bible:

"Every kingdom divided against itself is brought to desolation; and every city or house divided against itself shall not stand."

Matthew 12:25

Don't look now but our roof is starting to crumble...and it's from a hailstorm of hatred raining down by only a very small percentage of our country who talk the loudest. My predictions 2-3 years ago of political killings were correct, and sadly, there will almost certainly be more in our future.

Tears over a late night show speech. Probably the same person that loved the music covid jab song by Colbert. A moderate conservative he then says... .yeah sure.
Ah yes....the old "if you don't suck Trump's micro dick, you can't be a Conservative" argument. This is when we all recognize a poster waving the white flag because they have no other arguments to make.

Let's talk about Trump's conversion from true Conservative beliefs to authoritarian extremism and populist views shall we? Or are you afraid that after having that conversation, you'll quickly come to realize that it's actually you who is no longer a Conservative?

That's what I thought.

I think someone needs to be placed on a hold.. geez, get a grip. You sure jump to some anger. Not one spot in my answer did I say or insinuate that. Jump to conclusions much. You clearly have TDS.

Authoriitarian.........blah, blah, blah

Hitler.........blah, blah, blah

Crying Liberals.......blah, blah, blah

Keep going! I just laugh.

I'm guessing you've heard this a lot from the ladies over the years.

Always nice to hear from the thumbless former woodshop teacher who never has anything of substance to say. It's a true skill, sir...carry on my good man.

Seems like Page 3 in this thread has turned into the Political Board, full on bare knuckles.

Not having enough fun over there?!?

My first time watching Kimmel's show and those folks missed out on one hell of a monologue. He absolutely humiliated and castrated Trump/Barr and even managed to get some jabs in at ABC/Disney.

The UN and Tylenol speech videos of Trump completely melting down left us in tears from laughter. I'm going right back to my avoidance of all things network TV but I'm curious what the ratings were for last night.
I didn't laugh that hard and I disagree with his political bent, but I did appreciate his sympathy for Erica Kirk and her children. I do wish he had actually stopped, looked directly into the camera, and said "I am sorry for the joke my writers wrote and I stated. It was insensitive and not funny. I apologize and ask your forgiveness." That is the humble thing to do, and it puts the onus on others to forgive him, which is what all Christians are called to do.

Kimmel claimed to be a Christ follower. I would like to now see it in his actions.
Good work on you to add to Kimmel's ratings and/or Click-View total.
Do you really imagine it mattered?

Do you really imagine it mattered?

Just like each vote, every ratings point or click/view matters.

Help brother out and tune into Kimmel tonight. Lead guest is Ethan Hawke who I hear has a very interesting TV project that he is promoting. Supposed to be really great.

You've never teared up while laughing hysterically? It seems to me you probably need to laugh more often. Try reading more of Trump's Truth Social posts while imagining they're coming from a 12 year old girl. That should do the trick.

I'm a Moderate Conservative and suffer no fools on either side of the political aisle. Just say what you really want to say to me. I'm not shy.
I don’t believe you laughed hysterically at that monologue.

You can double up on Jimmy Kimmel fun tonight by catching him on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert as the lead guest.

I mean....the original joke wasn't even targeted at Kirk....in any way. It was a shot at the Trump administration.....which is why they got all pissy and Carr started making threats. Even so.....it was an incredibly innocuous "joke".

When did the right turn into fragile snowflakes who get all up in arms over jokes (funny or not)? Or is this just fascism seeping it's way into the mainstream? Because Trump says all sorts of offensive things.....and nobody with any power to do anything is demanding apologies from him.....ever.

The issue is that Kimmel lied and said the killer was a MAGA supporter and thus declared that a right wing activist killed Charlie Kirk. It was an open lie spoken to grieving supporters of Charlie Kirk who simply needed a laugh, not a lie.

Kimmel never said Kirk's killer was a MAGA supporter.

That's not even close. Kimmel questioned why maga was working so hard to prove the killer wasn't maga. He then went on to mock taco who, when asked how he was doing in reference to Kirk, said he was doing well and immediately pivoted to the WH ballroom under construction. Anybody who saw the clip could tell taco didn't give a shit about Charlie. He dearly deserved to be mocked for his obvious callousness.

Kimmel didn't need to apologize for anything. He was a victim of cynical maga opportunism.

LMAO.... nice semantical argument. And OJ didn't kill Nicole Simpson and Ronald Goldman. You could at least try to make an honest argument if you're really going to venture down the road of dying on that hill for Kimmel. Most would tell you he's not worth your effort

There's no need for me to make a further argument. Post #74 is incorrect. Honestly.

The excessive repeating of obvious lies in the hopes it sticks with enough of the programmable, weak-minded population is the new "truth".

FOX News perfected that formula on Donnie's behalf and it only cost them $800M and their most valuable cash cow personality.

Or, we could stop dancing around the semantical argument and cut to the chase; You found absolutely nothing wrong or insensitive with what Kimmel said and you're saying he didn't falsely misrepresent anything in his comments that evening?

You're right though, probably not worth beating any further, I would guess you'd rather not directly address the issue at hand any further, understandably.

MAGA wasn't trying to prove the killer wasn't in their camp. That's the lie because it plants the idea that they were doing so when they were not.
I am not saying Kimmel needed to be canceled. I am saying he deserved a reprimand and a fine (as did his writer). He needed to apologize and in that area he still has not actually said he is sorry.

No, he didn't say that. Furthermore....have you seen cable news? You think networks like Fox News don't push falsehoods under the guise of being "news"? And they shouldn't be held to a higher standard than a damn comedian?

Wrong. The first amendment suggests that he didn't need to apologize for anything (regardless of the fact that what he said wasn't even bad). This narrative that he did something wrong is simply the right wing deciding that they don't really care about constitutional rights and prefer fascism. It's hypocrisy of the highest order of people who made "fuck your feelings" a motto and who rally around a president that says highly insensitive things on a weekly basis. It's all virtue signaling.....and it's wild that anyone is falling for it.

This is what Kimmel said. Was it worth the suspension? I don't care. Did he state that the kid was a MAGA? Yes, that is beyond obvious.

“We hit some new lows over the weekend with the MAGA gang desperately trying to characterize this kid who murdered Charlie Kirk as anything other than one of them, and doing everything they can to score political points from it.”

He didn't need to apologize. Disney didn't need to keep him on the air. At will States allow employers to fire people with no cause. So, this issue was not a 1st amendment violation issue. This issue is one person saying something that hurt his bosses business and got him suspended.
Perhaps you have been a coward at your work and never stood your ground on an issue that ultimately caused you to lose your job. You exercised your 1st amendment rights, but the result was your employer fired you. It happens everyday all around the US. What makes Jimmy Kimmel immune to that same action by his employer?

Stocker, you have a weak argument.

Haven't you heard? Employers are apparently now required to keep people employed that lose their business money. Crazy shit, I know....

When the head of the FCC starts throwing out threats to companies over something one of their late night hosts says....it 100% becomes a first amendment issue. Comply or be harrassed by the government is corruption....pure and simple. The fascism is out in the open and you right wingers have decided to jump on board the fascism train. And you're hiding behind some lame ass excuse that this is all because of a joke and not because Trump has the thinnest skin in America.....and has had it out for ALL the late night hosts because they make fun of him.

Right wing snowflakes. The whiniest folks in the country.
