ABC suspends Jimmy Kimmel’s late-night show indefinitely over his remarks about Charlie Kirk’s death

Once again......every accusation by the right is an admission. Cancel culture and censorship being promoted....not by some random online rubes.....but by the president and his goons. Who'd have thunk that extortion was on the menu for 2025? Oh right.....educated folks.

they cancelled Trump on twitter before the election for months.

They cancelled Mike Lindell

ABC cancelled Roseanne and the left didn't say schit.

Why are you so soft, Stocker? Just another crying victim.

I’m not dying on the mtn for Fallon. Michael Rappaport is Mother Theresa compared to Fallon. Trust me, I’ve met Michael.

I disagreed with the cancel culture of the left and I equally disagree with the cancer culture of the right. I would hope that had Charlie Kirk not been killed, he would stand up for freedom of speech. In the case of Jimmy Kimmel, the dart was aimed at Donald Trump and the neo-con bullies, not at Charlie Kirk. Someone on the right, please grow some balls and learn to laugh in the face of grief.

People who call this cancel culture are missing the point or intentionally obfuscating the point. I can't put it better than a post I read online: "It's not cancel culture when it comes from the government. It is censorship and state repression, just like in traditional authoritarian regimes."

Good point. It goes way beyond "cancel culture". People are free to boycott and make a stink about something they don't like or don't agree with. Private companies can make decisions with regards to these things.

What we are seeing is the government openly extorting and punishing private companies that do not follow their orders. It's fascism. Complete disregard for the first amendment.

Essentially, weaponizing the regulatory authority granted to them by the people, used improperly against the people.

And that is what the Biden administration did with Facebook and Twitter. I'm not a Fan of either side using the government for censorship.

Ultimately if the decision is made to let him go and the reason was as you suggest, I'm 100% with you. It would be on par with some of the suppression efforts we saw under the previous administration.

But I have a hard time feeling too sorry for Kimmel here. He didn't read the room very well as it pertains to the Kirk killing and frankly has alienated half his audience (as others have too) by turning his show into a partisan hack job. Are CBS/ABC obligated to keep these shows on the air until 2028 to avoid the perception or reality of what you suggest and continue to bleed money?

I don't agree with doing that in general, but asking and improperly coercing are two different things. And you'd have to show me that it wasn't the Biden Admin asking them to police lies and misinformation, which is within their regulatory authority.

In any case, this will be good fodder for the new thread you start over on the Cesspool. I doubt there are any there already about Biden or COVID.

Dude hasn't been funny since girls jumping on trampolines. Who's going to miss the show?

This was about money, 100%. Late night tv has been dying a slow, steady death for years and I'd bet about anything they were dying to find a justifiable reason to escape what had become a really bad contract. ABC/Disney is rejoicing behind the scenes right now, and probably doing everything they can, behind the scenes, to stoke the outrage fire that this was about something else

As usual, the guys on the "All-In" podcast pretty much nail it here. ABC took advantage of an economic opportunity to get out of this contract now. Without question, the folks at ABC had been looking for a catalyst to make this happen and Kimmel just handed it to them.

If they didn't do this now, they wouldn't have been able to dump Kimmel for another year or two, when his contract was going to come up for renewal. The show sucks, the data tells you that without digging very deep. It's not like sponsors were lining up to buy advertising time on this guy's show.

Hmmmmm..... well this is certainly strange, coming from Mr. Kimmel just a few years ago...
