Weird column from Souhan today saying basically, "Don't fire the hitting coach". That's way, way down the list of things people are frustrated about. People are fed up with ownership that won't spend money, an executive that has failed pretty badly when he's been given the green light to spend any significant money and a manager who lacks the fortitude to challenge and push his team to be better. Nobody thinks that Toronto is having a real nice year because David Popkins ended up there.

Back to back wins for the first time since...well I can't remember. Feels like it's been a while. Twins are streaking!

In addition to Lewis with 2 dingers, Keaschall went 3 for 6.

SWR movin on up?

He threw 57 strikes last night and 17 were swing and misses = 29%. According to one source, anything over 14% Is considered elite.

I have a sneaky suspicion, that he will continue to evolve and end up with a nice 6-10 year career, as a middle/end of the rotation starter. This will be second consecutive year topping 20+ starts.

I still remember when he was interviewed going into the AS break last year, and he was asked if he was going on vacation and he said, “Naw going home to work on my mechanics.”

Never bet against a grinder😀

Lewis is hitting .454 against the Padres, Dodgers and Angels this year. He steps it up against Southern California.
 



The win streak appears to be over. Giving up 9 runs is bad. Giving up all 9 runs with 2 outs is putrid.

Edit. Angels tacked on 3 more runs later. Also with two outs.

Something I noticed while playing the Baseball Grid and going down rabbit holes:

2025 has not had a No Hitter, yet.

According to the Google, a season without such an achievement has not happened since 2005. It's only happened in 3 seasons of modern baseball (1901).


Seems counter to accepted statistical indicators in which overall offense is way down.

With just a couple of weeks to go, let's see if I can jinx one into existence.
 






Thoughts on the future of Joe Ryan with the twins? Starts off strong but does seem to fade as the year goes on. Now it would be hard to be “motivated” pitching with the duds behind you, especially after the trading deadline.

As player, I can't imagine anything more disheartening than playing for an organization that shows so little desire to field a winning product. If I were him or Buck, I'd be asking to get moved and never look back, especially if you have a NTC and can dictate a list of teams.

He seemed all kinds of annoyed with the manager on multiple occasions before this season. He's likely looking forward to getting out of here as soon as he can.
 

The Twins acquired David Ortiz from the Mariners on this date in 1996, as the player to be named later in the David Hollins trade.

The Twins released Ortiz following the 2002 season. He finished top-five in AL MVP balloting each of his first five seasons in Boston.

Goldschmidt along with Todd Helton have the most distinguished MLB Careers in my lifetime, that I have been nearly completely oblivious about their achievements.

The Grid has helped a bit.

If it was a "player to named later" by very definition it would be after the trade deadline.

Additionally, teams previously could complete deals on players who cleared waivers through 8/31, just as the Twins did when they acquired Don Baylor in 1987.

Tough to get a no hitter when you can't even complete a game. I have never been less interested in baseball than I currently am.

FWIW- if there is no change in ownership, Icould see him being moved before the trade deadline ext season. Although, with Ober’s apparent regression, who knows🤷‍♂️

I'm aware but I don't think that was the case with this one.
 

Will the Twins draw 20K for the Yankees tonight? I'm guessing no.

I think he’s gone this winter. I also have no faith the current front office will get something back in return who can play. That’s what makes the bullpen trades this season so bad. They traded away everything and who’s knows if anyone they got can play. The pitchers are far from rookies and have been bad. I will always have that Joe Ryan signed ball though.
