Northwestern State worst Gophers' opponent since... ?

The 4-7 2010 South Dakota Yotes come to mind, which would make Nortwestern State the worst opponent since the 2010 Gophers

This is the worst team to come into the Bank since it opened in 2009. Yet any score between 70-0 and 36-14 seems possible given the way Fleck often (but not always) plays these non conference games, and the way some supposedly overmatched opponents have provided difficult for Fleck's teams.
Sometimes it seems the Gophers use these games to try different tactics and mix and match personnel. Almost like a glorified scrimmage.

Were they really better than 0-11 Western Illinois from 2022?

Also, on the Bowling Green point, I don't think anyone was arguing that the team was necessarily "good." They're not a top level G5 team like Boise State, or even a major MAC player. However, their coach was improving the team, so it's not fair to look at them as bottom feeders like some of the other teams mentioned in the thread.

I was more tongue in cheek. But I just looked and the coach of Western Illinois that year went 0-22 over two seasons and was fired. I don't recall another coach going winless in back to back years

They were good that day.
Bowling Green:
19/36 for 170 yds & 1 picks
25 rushes for 22 yds
12 first downs
2 turnovers

Gophers:
5/13 for 58 yds & 2 picks
45 rushes for 182 yds
12 first downs
3 turnovers

I'd say that both teams were terrible. Bowling Green was just able to make it in the end zone twice.

Defensive struggle!

Yes. I watched them, in person, frustrate the Gophers' offense the entire game. I think that game was their "Super Bowl" and brought their best effort.
I would say Gophs played down. Five completed forward passes. Three turnovers. Seven penalties, four of which resulted in first downs. Barely won TOP.

Mike Sanford who was the O.C. for the Bowling Green befuddling, is now coaching high school football.
